Serbia vs. Cameroon under pressure

The second matchday of the World Cup finals will see a thrilling chasing duel in Group G, as both rivals lost their opening game and now need to win if they want to stay in the race to advance to the last 16.

After largely rather frothy and cautious performances in the first round, we now expect a lively exchange of blows, with both teams needing to score goals! The Africans in particular, however, have to ask themselves what they are capable of. Accordingly, a bet on Cameroon vs. Serbia is considered with quite high odds.

The Serbs, on the other hand, have basically played convincingly in 2022, but were pale in their opener against title favourites Brazil. Against a much weaker opponent, however, we expect a much stronger performance from the number 21 in the FIFA world rankings.

Is a prediction of a rather one-sided affair justified in Cameroon vs. Serbia? The five-time African champions will undoubtedly be looking for some offensive action, but the squad of the “Eagles” is much stronger and is peppered with numerous legionnaires from the Italian league!

All in all, we see clear advantages for the current last-place team in Pool G, who also enjoy our favour in our picks.

Cameroon – Statistics & current form

Even before the group stage began, Cameroon were delivering very poor results. With only two points and two goals from their last five games, it is clear that one should not expect too much from this squad.

Overall, the Africans shock in many areas with negative superlatives, which is why these odds on Cameroon vs. Serbia are not interesting for us.

WM defeats and few goals

The last eight (!) World Cup matches of the five-time African champions were lost without exception. The last World Cup victory dates back to 2002, and another defeat in the coming match would set a new record for the longest losing streak at a finals. So history can be written in the negative sense.

Almost as shocking is the goal yield of the “indomitable lions”. With an average of 0.8 goals per World Cup match, no other nation that has played at least 20 finals matches has a worse record. Moreover, no goal was scored in five of the last eight World Cup matches.

Defence not holding tight

In 15 games this season, they have only managed to keep their own box clean twice, and they are regularly hit at the back even against supposedly weak opponents. Therefore, conceding goals is to be expected in the upcoming duel as well.

Moreover, only one of the last 15 World Cup matches against European teams was won. Our prediction for Cameroon vs. Serbia is therefore relatively clear in favour of the Europeans.

Predicted line-up of Cameroon:
Onana – Fai, Castelletto, Nkoulou, Tolo – Anguissa, Gouet, Hongla – Mbeumo, Choupo-Moting, Toko-Ekambi

24/11/2022 – Switzerland 1 – 0 Cameroon

23/09/2022 – Uzbekistan 2 – 0 Cameroon

Serbia – Statistics & current form

The Serbians will not be rattled by their recent 2-0 defeat to title favourites Brazil, because even though their performance last Thursday was rather poor, their last opponent simply has to be considered too strong.

Now the chances of a first win in Qatar are good, because coach Stojkovic’s team is basically in good shape. Players like Vlahovic and Milinkovic-Savic are clear leaders who can make the difference.

Never reached the last 16

As an independent country, they have always failed to reach the group stage. Eight of their last ten World Cup matches were lost, and they conceded at least one goal just as often. However, if they have kept a clean sheet in the last ten World Cup matches, they have also managed to win both of them.

Nevertheless, we see a bet on the “Eagles” as a good choice for Cameroon vs. Serbia, because they proved to be stable and uncompromising in 2022. In the last three games before the World Cup, they only won, sometimes even with many goals. If they are successful on Monday, then everything is possible in the final duel against Switzerland.

High squad quality as decisive factor

The head coach has players with international class in almost all parts of the team. Mitrovic, for example, has already scored nine Premier League goals this season and is expected to make the difference in the upcoming clash. Tadic, who has been the best provider of goal-scoring opportunities in the Champions League over the past five years, should also help up front.

For a bet on Vlahovic and co. the bookmakers offer odds of around 1.70 on Cameroon vs. Serbia.

Predicted line-up for Serbia:
Milinkovic-Savic – Milnekovic, Veljkovic, Pavlovic – Zivkovic, Lukic, Gudelj, Mladenovic – Tadic, Milinkovic-Savic – Vlahovic

Cameroon – Serbia Direct comparison / H2H-Balance

Until now, the two nations have faced each other once in a friendly international match, Serbia winning in a spectacular 4:3. Both teams have a clear negative record against teams from the other continent. Who can overcome the statistics?

Cameroon – Serbia Tip

The odds suggest a clear starting position for Cameroon against Serbia. Even though the Serbians have never really hit the big time at major events, they could finally do so, as the Serbian squad is as strong as it has ever been. After the opening defeat against Brazil, Serbia wants to win and the chances of doing so are good, because in the autumn numerous victories were achieved in Nations League and friendly matches.

On the other hand, the Africans’ negative records are sometimes overflowing, with success being an extremely rare commodity both in the current season and at previous World Cups. We only trust the “indomitable lions” to score a goal if they are lucky, as their attack has been guilty of a lot lately.

All in all, tip 2 is certainly the best choice for Cameroon vs. Serbia, even if the odds do not promise excessively high earnings. Even a handicap win for the Serbs seems realistic to us. If you want to take a little more risk, this is the best option for you.
