Top match in the Championship!

With Burnley against Norwich, the duel of two relegated teams takes place on Friday evening in the Championship. Both teams have coped well with the drop into the second division and are in the top third of the table after eight rounds of matches.

Thus, the Green-Yellows arrive in second place with an impressive series of five victories and the home side are in fifth place with only three points less. The pairing therefore represents a parallel top-of-the-table match in the British lower house!

Burnley – Statistics & current form

Burnley brought in a new coach in Vincent Kompany after their relegation. The Belgian spent a long time as a player with Manchester City in England, eleven years to be precise, which means he knows football on the island very well.

However, he is still somewhat inexperienced as a coach. This is only his second time in this role at BFC, having previously held the position at his youth club Anderlecht. He also failed in his attempt to bring success back to Brussels with the Belgian record champions.

In his three years at RSC, he failed to win any titles, which is probably why the supposed saviour “Vince the Prince” packed his bags last summer and joined Burnley.

Kompany off to a good start in new job

However, he has now made a fairly successful start to the new Championship season with the two-time English champions, the last being 62 years ago. After eight rounds of matches, the hosts have only one defeat (3-4-1).

The attack has been particularly reliable: only top of the table Sheffield United and Bristol have scored more goals than the 1914 FA Cup winners. Josh Brownhill and Jay Rodriguez deserve special credit for this with four goals each.

The latter striker in particular is in very good form at the moment: The 33-year-old has scored in four of the past five league games and his output is even stronger than Brownhill’s, as he has played two games less due to an injury in between.

Will Rodriguez strike again?

With that in mind, the odds on his next goal celebration are equally on offer in the Burnley-Norwich showdown.

The “Clarets”, on the other hand, can only bet on a home bonus to a limited extent. Although they are still unbeaten after four home games, three of those games ended in a draw (1-3-0).

Predicted line-up of Burnley:
Muric – Maatsen – Taylor – Harwood-Bellis – Roberts – Cork – Cullen – Vitinho – Brownhill – Tella – Rodriguez

Norwich – Statistics & current form

While the opponents had to register a personnel bloodletting after the relegation, the “Canaries” have kept their squad together as far as possible and even treated themselves to an update in central midfield with Gabriel Sara from Sao Paulo, for example.

In attack, Teemu Pukki, among others, was kept at the 120-year-old club. The Finn scored 77 goals in the past four seasons in the country’s first and second leagues!

Especially in the Championship, he was usually unstoppable – 55 goals in the two seasons in this division alone. At the moment, however, the attacker is unusually pale. The former Schalke player has only scored one goal this season.

Sargent steps into the breach

The fact that City’s attack still boasts the fourth-best output in the Championship is again largely down to the very good performances of Joshua Sargent.

The US-American already has five goals to his name after eight rounds of play! Only Óscar Estupiñán of Hull tops this number! The 22-year-old has improved especially in the last few games after a modest start to the season: All of his goals for the club from the east of England have come in the past five league games.

In light of this, betting on the former Werder Bremen player to score again in the clash between Burnley and Norwich also makes sense for the two-time League Cup winners (1962 & 1985).

Guests have also made gains away from home

Furthermore, the guests have put aside their initial away weakness. They lost their first two away games at Cardiff and Hull, but have recently won at Sunderland and Birmingham City.

Predicted line-up of Norwich:
Krul – Hanley – Byram – Omobamidele – Aarons – Nunez – McLean – Cantwell – Ramsey – Sargent – Pukki

Burnley – Norwich Direct comparison / H2H record

The reds conceded a 0:2 away defeat against the footballers from Carrow Road in their last meeting for the time being last April. In contrast, the home record against Norwich is very positive when looking back at the recent past.

Only one of the last eight home games in league and FA Cup was lost. Instead, six of these games were won (6-1-1). Still, between Burnley and Norwich, the betting odds on a home win seem too risky to us.

Burnley – Norwich tip

The home side from Lancashire have been convincing offensively so far and have scored the third most goals in the league. In contrast, they have room for improvement defensively. One reason for this are the notable departures in the defence after relegation from the Premier League.

Goalkeeper Nick Pope (Newcastle) and defenders Nathan Collins (Wolverhampton) and James Tarkowski (Everton), among others, left the club to join clubs that are still in the British top flight.

At present, Kevin Long is also absent from the team due to injury. Given the combination of a strong offence and a fragile defence, our prediction for the Burnley-Norwich clash includes goals on both sides.

This is a pattern that has been seen in four of the home side’s last five league games. The prediction is supported by the equally efficient attacking line of coach Dean Smith’s team. With Joshua Sargent, they also have the second best goal scorer in the Championship. The odds on the American scoring in the Burnley-Norwich clash are also interesting
