Catch-up game as a relegation clash that sets the tone

The first legs of the international competitions are actually on the agenda this week. In the motherland of football, however, the ball is also rolling in the domestic championship, after all, there are still a few catch-up games to be played in England. In the course of this, an explosive and trend-setting duel will take place on Wednesday evening at Turf Moor – Burnley welcome Everton.

An absolute relegation battle, which can already bring a preliminary decision for both teams. Before the direct duel, the home side from Burnley are in 19th place in the table with 21 points. The visitors from Merseyside have 25 points and are just above the ominous line. Should Lampard’s team win at the Clarets, it would be a very, very big step towards staying in the league. The bookmakers are offering odds of around 3.00 on the Toffees to win between Burnley and Everton.

Given the starting position, the motto for both clubs is more than clear – “no losing”. The match kicks off at Turf Moor on Wednesday evening at 20.30.

Burnley – Statistics & current form

The threat of relegation has no consequences (yet) for head coach Sean Dyche at Burnley. The 50-year-old has been with the Clarets since October 2012 and has experienced ups and downs. In 2013/14, the club remained loyal to him despite relegation and was rewarded with a direct return to the Premier League. A new impetus in the season finale on the coaching bench is accordingly unlikely.

Only three wins this season

The 2021/22 season will be Burnley’s sixth consecutive season in the Premier League. While staying in the league is still within the realms of possibility, it would indeed be a huge surprise. Even in 2014/15, a relegation year, Burnley had more points on the board after 28 games played. This season, Burnley have only managed a meagre three wins. However, thanks to a large number of draws (twelve), the relegation zone is still within sight.

The most recent games, however, do not provide much hope, because the short flight of fancy (wins against Brighton and Tottenham as well as a draw against Crystal Palace) is long over. After these seven points from three games, there have been setbacks after setbacks. Not only have the last four Premier League games all been lost, but the attack has not been able to score a single goal.

Winter top transfer Wout Weghorst may have fulfilled his dream of playing in England, but so far things are anything but going according to plan for the ex-Wolfsburg player. Without goals from the 29-year-old, however, staying in the league will be a utopia.

The Clarets can draw on a full complement of players in this landmark game, but given the results so far this season, the odds for a home win at Burnley against Everton are not at all interesting.

Predicted Burnley line-up:
Pope – Taylor, Tarkowski, Long, Roberts – McNeil, Cork, Brownhill, Westwood, Lennon – Weghorst

Everton – Statistics & current form

When asked to name their biggest disappointment this Premier League season, Everton Football Club is definitely an answer choice. For many years they have been striving to return to Europe, and Liverpool’s local rivals have spent millions to achieve this. However, success leaves much to be desired. The current season represents the absolute low point of recent years. 25 points after 28 league games are a whopping 21 points less than a year ago.

Lampard with a poor record

Ex-Liverpool coach Rafa Benitez was eyed very critically at the start – and the fans were proved right. With Frank Lampard, a big name in English football took over the club and now has the primary goal of keeping the league. So far, however, the results under the former Chelsea coach and player leave much to be desired. There have been eleven competitive matches, four of which have been won. The remaining seven games were lost.

Everton celebrated two of their four victories in the FA Cup, while their league record is sobering with two wins and six defeats. If the negative run at Turf Moor is not stopped, all alarm bells will be ringing. A win, on the other hand, would provide a little breathing space. However, the Toffees have celebrated only one of their seven victories away from Goodison Park this season. That only away win came at Brigthon & Hove Albion on 28 August (matchday 3). This victory compares to three draws and ten defeats.

These away statistics definitely speak against the guests, but the current form of the home side is also devastating. Moreover, the quality of the Toffees’ squad is much higher. The performance in the narrow 2-1 defeat against West Ham United was quite promising.

Predicted Everton line-up:
Pickford – Mykolenko, Godfery, Branthwaite, Kenny – Iwobi, Holgate, Doucoure – Richarlison, Calvert-Levin, Gray

Last games played by Everton:

Premier League
04/03 2022 – West Ham 2 – 1 Everton

FA Cup
03/20 2022 – Crystal Palace 4 – 0 Everton

Premier League
03/17 2022 – Everton 1 – 0 Newcastle United

03/13 2022 – Everton 0 – 1 Wolverhampton

03/07 2022 – Tottenham 5 – 0 Everton

Burnley – Everton Direct Comparison / H2H Record

111 times this clash has taken place in the English top flight. The Toffees from Liverpool have a clear lead in the direct comparison. Everton have won 48 games, Burnley have only 34 victories so far. The first leg between the two teams took place on matchday four and the second half was particularly spectacular. Burnley took the lead after a goalless 45 minutes, but Everton scored three times in the space of six minutes to turn the game in their favour.

Burnley – Everton Tip

Which team’s form is even weaker? That’s the question to ask in this relegation clash, as confidence will be low for the players on the pitch. Recent performances have been completely disappointing for both teams. In the direct duel, the mental aspect will now also take on great importance, because a defeat would further aggravate the already precarious situation for both teams. A nice football match is not to be expected, a lot of fighting is on the agenda. Accordingly, a prediction on the tip Under 2.5 offers itself with Burnley vs. Everton.

Generally, an assessment on the three-way market seems relatively difficult, as valid arguments in favour of the outcome of a match are hard to find. Nevertheless, the greatest value between Burnley and Everton is seen in betting on the visitors with odds of over 3.00. Everton have a squad with far more individual class than Burnley. While the away record is devastating, so are four defeats without scoring. Due to the risk involved in this bet, a stake of just four units is recommended
