Are the Clarets confirming their recent upward trend?

After initially going winless in 12 consecutive competitive matches, Burnley FC have won two of their last four league games. These included an important 1-0 home win over Tottenham which saw the east Lancashire outfit climb back above the drop zone.

Now, however, Chelsea, the reigning Champions League winners, are guests at Turf Moor. The Blues have won seven of their last eight competitive matches and are favourites to win. In the run-up to the clash between Burnley and Chelsea, the odds are very clearly in favour of Thomas Tuchel’s side.

However, things remain very unsettled for the Londoners, who struggled to come back from two down to win 3-2 away to Luton Town in the FA Cup quarter-finals last week. After Abramovich’s departure, the club is up for sale, which will certainly not leave the protagonists unscathed.

It is therefore interesting to bet on a point win for the Clarets at Burnley against Chelsea and to use the double chance 1X.

Burnley – Statistics & current form

Burnley Football Club were last relegated from the Premier League in 2010 and 2015. Last summer, they were almost relegated for the third time in eleven years. In the end, however, 39 points were enough for 17th place in the final table.

The Clarets currently occupy the fourth-last position in the table and, according to the current standings, would have once again achieved a place in the league due to their superior goal difference over Leeds, who are level on points. However, they have only won three of their 27 league games so far, meaning that the two-time English champions still have a tough job ahead of them.

Seven points out of a possible twelve from the last four league games

After all, the recent form curve has clearly been pointing upwards.

Long-time coach Sean Dyche’s side picked up two of their only three wins from their last four league games. The Clarets beat Brighton and Tottenham, two teams from the top half of the table, by nil and were finally able to shine again offensively.

Defence is not the problem for the east Lancashire side anyway, who have conceded 32 goals from 27 league games, the seventh best defence in the Premier League.

Won first two of 13 Premier League home games

Sean Dyche’s men held the Blues to a 1-1 draw in the first leg. Now, for the first time in 51 years, the Clarets could remain unbeaten in both league games of a single season against the Londoners.

However, with only ten goals scored in 13 home games at Turf Moor and only two games won (seven draws, four defeats), the 17th-placed side are still outsiders…

Chelsea – Statistics & current form

Chelsea Football Club have had another volatile few weeks recently. In fact, the Blues have won six of their last seven competitive matches and also secured the overall FIFA Club World Cup title for the first time in history during that run.

However, they were beaten on penalties by Liverpool FC in the final of the EFL Cup on Sunday, before an extremely painstaking 3-2 away win at second division Luton Town during the week, which just managed to avoid an embarrassing FA Cup exit.

Only two wins in last six league games

In the Premier League, meanwhile, only two of the last six league games were won, which means that the question of the championship has probably been settled for Thomas Tuchel’s troops.

Although the Blues have topped the table for a total of nine matchdays and have lost just three of their 27 league games, their recent drought has left them 14 points behind leaders Manchester City, which is virtually unassailable with eleven games to go.

Only clean sheet in four of last 15 league games

Inversely, the Pensioners even have to be careful not to be caught by a chaser like Manchester United or Tottenham. After all, the starting place for the Champions League is not yet in the bag.

Given that the Clarets have never lost in seven away games at Turf Moor, betting on an away win for the Londoners at Burnley against Chelsea is a good bet. However, with only four games to nil in the last 15 league games, the match against the defensively strong home side will not be a foregone conclusion.

Burnley – Chelsea Direct comparison / H2H record

Head to head: 38 – 25 – 40

There have been a total of 103 meetings between the two teams and the Blues lead the head-to-head comparison with 40 wins. Since the inception of the Premier League, however, Chelsea have lost only one match against the Clarets. However, after four straight defeats, Burnley held the Londoners to a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

Burnley – Chelsea England Tip

When it comes to Burnley against Chelsea, the prediction basically goes very clearly in the direction of the visitors. The Blues are third in the table and have only lost three of their 27 league games, while the Clarets have only three wins to their name and are in a relegation battle. The Londoners, however, have won only two of their last six league games and currently have to endure a lot of external criticism because of the Abramovich departure.

Even with the Clarets picking up seven points from a possible 12 and being extremely solid defensively, the supposed underdogs are likely to come away with a surprising point against the Blues, who have had a tough week on and off the pitch.

We are therefore risking the double chance 1X bet, for which odds of 2.80 are available on Burnley vs Chelsea.
