Who will confirm the opening win?

Monday evening will see a clash between two teams that have already claimed a win on matchday one. If the Brazil vs. Switzerland betting is right that there will also be a winner in this match, then this team could, depending on the midday match between Cameroon and Serbia, already book their ticket to the 2022 World Cup round of 16.

To that end, the Brazilians are desperate to continue their run. The Seleção are currently unbeaten in 16 group matches at World Cup finals. If the South Americans can hold on to at least a draw in their 17th consecutive match, the team from Sugarloaf would set a new World Cup record.

Brazil’s prediction that the Seleção will not lose this second group match against Switzerland is fundamentally well placed. After all, the Swiss have won only one of their last eight World Cup matches against a South American nation (two draws, five defeats).

However, the Nati held the Seleção to a draw in each of their two World Cup matches so far, both at the 1950 World Cup and at the 2018 World Cup. In addition, the Swiss are strong defensively. The match could be correspondingly close, in which the Brazilians could very well live with the draw if in doubt. Therefore, betting on a maximum of two goals in Monday night’s match offers a lot of value. We take a closer look at the best Switzerland vs Brazil odds in our analysis.

Brazil – Statistics & current form

The Brazilian national football team is still the sole record world champion. The Seleção have already won the major title five times – the last time against Germany in 2002. The last time, however, was in 2018 in Russia, where they lost 2-1 to Belgium in the quarter-finals.

Since then, things have gone well for the current number one in the FIFA world rankings. But in the final of the Copa America 2021, of all things, the players from Sugarloaf lost 1-0 to arch-rivals Argentina. It was the Brazilians’ only defeat in the last 30 international matches (25 wins, four draws).

Richarlison with nine goals in last seven internationals

The Seleção are among the big 2022 World Cup favourites and were able to live up to this role in their opening match, unlike teams such as Argentina or Germany. Coach Tite’s team won 2:0 against Serbia.

Both goals came from Richarlison, who has scored nine times in his last seven internationals. Since the Tottenham Hotspur player made his debut in the canary yellow kit in 2018, no Seleção player has scored more goals than the 25-year-old (19).

Does the Seleção set a new World Cup record?

Accordingly, not least because of superstar Neymar’s ankle injury, for whom the preliminary round is officially over, whether the Brazilians really can set a new World Cup record and become the first nation to go unbeaten in 17 consecutive group matches will also depend largely on Richarlison against Switzerland.

It is true that the betting odds on Brazil against Switzerland are clearly in favour of the footballers from Sugarloaf Mountain. Not only did the Seleção not manage more than a draw in their two World Cup encounters with the Nati, but the Brazilian team has also only won two of its last six World Cup matches against European teams (one draw, three defeats).

Predicted line-up of Brazil:
Alisson – Sandro – Silva – Marquinhos – Danilo – Casemiro – Paquetá – Júnior – Antony – Raphinha – Richarlison

Switzerland – Statistics & current form

The Swiss national football team belongs to a very elite circle in Europe. Along with Belgium and France, Switzerland is the only country that has always made it through the group stage at the last four major tournaments (World and European Championships).

Most recently, in 2018 in Russia, the Nati accompanied the Seleção to the last 16 as group runners-up, but were surprisingly beaten by Sweden. The Swiss are currently taking part in a World Cup finals for the twelfth time and once again set the course for the last 16 with a 1-0 opening victory over Cameroon.

Only conceded two goals in the entire World Cup qualifiers

It is striking that the Nati are extremely difficult to beat.

Switzerland have lost only one of their last five World Cup matches (two wins, two draws) and are even unbeaten in the World Cup group stage for five consecutive matches (three wins, two draws).

One reason for this is certainly the defensive compactness of the Swiss selection. Already in the World Cup qualifiers, coach Murat Yakin’s men secured group victory ahead of European champions Italy, who ultimately missed out on a ticket to the World Cup in the play-offs, primarily due to the fact that they conceded only two goals in eight qualifying matches.

Only lost one of the last four international matches against Brazil

Also in the first group game, there was little to burn defensively. If the ball did hit the Swiss goal, it was also impossible to overcome the superb keeper Yann Sommer, who could also unnerve the Seleção. A lot of value therefore comes from betting on less than 2.5 goals for Brazil against Switzerland.

After all, the Swiss have scored exactly once in their last six international matches against the five-time world champions, which has meant that only one of the last four games against Brazil has been lost (two wins, one draw). Now the draw would be enough for the Nati to have a place in the last 16 in their own hands in the last group match against Serbia.

Predicted line-up of Switzerland:
Sommer – Rodríguez – Elvedi – Akanji – Widmer – Xhaka – Freuler – Vargas – Frei – Shaqiri – Embolo

Last matches played by Switzerland:

World Cup Group G
24/11/2022 – Switzerland 1 – 0 Cameroon

17/11/2022 – Switzerland 0 – 2 Ghana

UEFA Nations League A Grp. 2
28/09/2022 – Switzerland 2 – 1 Czech Republic

25/09/2022 – Spain 1 – 2 Switzerland

13/06/2022 – Switzerland 1 – 0 Portugal

Brazil – Switzerland Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 3 – 4 – 2

There have been nine international matches between the two nations so far and with three wins, the Brazilians lead the direct comparison by the narrowest of margins (four draws, two defeats). However, both matches at World Cup finals ended in a draw. In 1950 the score was 2-2 and four years ago in Russia the two nations drew 1-1.

Brazil – Switzerland Tip

At the moment, the bookmakers’ odds on Brazil against Switzerland are clearly in favour of the Seleção. However, several aspects ensure that the matter is not so clear. Not only has the team from Sugarloaf only won one of the last four international matches against Switzerland (one draw, two defeats), but Brazil has also only won two of the last six World Cup matches against European national teams (one draw, three defeats).

In addition, both teams are tough to beat in World Cup group stages. Brazil is unbeaten in 16 preliminary round matches, Switzerland in five. It is therefore reasonable to predict a low-scoring match between Brazil and Switzerland
