The two weakest offensives in the league among themselves

When Augsburg and Bielefeld clash at the end of the eighth matchday of the Bundesliga on Sunday evening, the entire competition will already have played. In particular, the winner of the other basement duel between Fürth and Bochum will probably have ensured that both opponents are below the line. The stakes are correspondingly high here.

The Fuggerstädter have a good record behind them. After six meetings, FCA is still completely undefeated against Arminia (five wins, one draw). Accordingly, in the run-up to the match between Augsburg and Bielefeld, the odds are swinging in the direction of the Bavarian Swabians.

The three-way system is not really suitable in this duel, despite the clear record. After all, the two worst offensives by far in the Bundesliga clash here. Both teams have scored only three goals in seven league games. The value of betting on a low-scoring match between Augsburg and Bielefeld is correspondingly high.

We recommend betting on less than 2.5 goals for the duel between two teams from the bottom of the table, who, after a weak start, also play an unwilling role in the Bundesliga Relegation 2022 forecast.

Augsburg – Statistics & current form

FC Augsburg were promoted to the Bundesliga in the summer of 2011 and have held their position in the top flight of German football ever since. Although they have finished 15th in the final table on three occasions, the Fuggerstädter have always managed to avoid finishing below the line or having to go through the relegation process.

FCA is currently above the line, but that could change this weekend. After all, it is clear that with Fürth and Bochum facing each other on Saturday, at least one of the pursuers will score. If the 15th-placed team then also loses to Arminia, things could get very dark indeed.

Still unbeaten in six competitive games against Bielefeld

The selection of Markus Weinzierl, who by the way is definitely a candidate for the first Bundesliga coaching sacking, can nevertheless go into the home game relatively confident. After all, the last league match at the WWK Arena brought the first three points of the 2021/22 season on matchday five (1:0 over Gladbach).

Added to this is the Fuggerstädter’s strong record against Arminia, against whom there has never before been a defeat in six league games (five wins, one draw). The defence also always stood firm against Bielefeld, allowing an average of just 0.33 goals conceded per game against the East Westphalians.

The lowest “expected goals” in the Bundesliga

Despite the strong record, it is anything but a foregone conclusion to bet on a home win for the Bavarian Swabians against Bielefeld. After all, the Fuggerstädter are currently finding it extremely difficult to score goals. Only three goals have been scored in seven league games by the offensive team, in which top scorer Florian Niederlechner (two goals) is now out injured.

A look at the so-called “expected goals” (xG) also shows that there was not much in it for FCA from the game, which has an even worse value than the East Westphalians (6.22) with only 5.67 in this rating. On top of that, the defence also recently conceded a penalty in two games in a row and rarely defended confidently.

Predicted Augsburg line-up:
Gikiewicz – Oxford – Gouweleeuw – Gumny – Dorsch – Strobl – Vargas – Caligiui – Maier – Zeqiri – Hahn

Bielefeld – Statistics & current form

Arminia Bielefeld returned to the Bundesliga in the summer of 2020 after an eleven-year absence and actually managed to stay in the league under Frank Kramer after a not too popular change of coach in March this year.

Now, however, the East Westphalians are facing a complicated second year after having to let go many key players in the summer. At least some interesting talents came to the large city in the Detmold administrative district.

Since 315 minutes of play without a goal of their own

Nevertheless, success is still elusive. Among other things, the gap in the attack left by Andreas Voglsammer seems to be too big. With only three goals, the Arminen are the weakest offensive team in the Bundesliga, together with today’s opponents FC Augsburg.

Most recently, the East Westphalians went three consecutive league games without scoring a goal of their own, but conceded five more in the same period.

Still winless after seven matchdays for the first time since the 1996/97 season

At the same time, Arminia are one of only two Bundesliga clubs, together with Greuther Fürth, who are still winless in league play in the 2021/22 season. So far, they have only had to wait seven matchdays in the 1996/97 season before they were able to record their first win. Even then, however, there were not as few goals as today.

The underdog role of the Kramer team is correspondingly clear, as they have such a poor record against their neighbours from the Fuggerstadt, with only one point out of a possible 18 and a total of only two goals scored.

Predicted line-up of Bielefeld:
Ortega – Laursen – Nilsson – Pieper – Brunner – Schöpf – Prietl – Hack – Wimmer – Okugawa – Klos

Augsburg – Bielefeld Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 5 – 1 – 0

Six competitive matches have been played between the two teams and FC Augsburg have never lost to Arminia Bielefeld. It was only in their last meeting to date on 17 April 2021 that the East Westphalians picked up their first ever point against the Fuggerstädter in a goalless draw at the WWK Arena.

Augsburg – Bielefeld Tip

The forecast for Augsburg against Bielefeld is overshadowed by the fact that this is a clash between the two weakest offensives in the Bundesliga by far. Both teams have only scored three goals in seven league games, with FCA now missing the injured Florian Niederlechner, the man who scored two of those three goals.

While the one-sided record between the two clubs certainly plays a role. Nevertheless, with a view to the weak offensive and low values in the area of “expected goals”, betting on a low-scoring match is almost inevitable.
