Will the Catalans continue their away series in Almeria?

In the tenth matchday of La Liga, a real basement duel takes place between two promoted teams when UD Almeria (18th) and Girona FC (16th) clash. Only one point currently separates the two rivals. Whoever manages to win the battle for promotion will also gain some breathing space at the same time.

The match has mostly been in the hands of the away team. In league play, the visitors have won three in a row. Last season in La Liga 2, Almeria first won the first leg in Girona 2-1, before the return leg in Andalusia brought a 0-1 home defeat. In a very close encounter, even betting odds are available on Almeria vs Girona.

It is striking that both teams showed completely different faces in the second half of the last three league games. While Girona have scored at least one goal in the second half three times in a row, Almeria have lost the second half three times in a row. We therefore see a lot of value in betting on Almeria against Girona that the visitors from Catalonia can win at least one half at the Power Horse Stadium.

By the way, the term LUGAS comes up again and again in connection with online betting, and we are frequently asked about it.

Almeria – Statistics & current form

UD Almeria was only founded in the summer of 1989 and has yet to achieve any great success. In the 2006/07 season, the Rojiblancos were promoted to La Liga for the first time, where they initially managed to stay for four seasons.

After two more years in the first division between 2013 and 2015, the Andalusians needed seven attempts to return to the top flight of Spanish football. This summer, “La Unión” managed to do so as second division champions, winning the first minor title in the club’s history.

Lost five of the last six league games

Now, of course, the mission is to re-establish themselves in La Liga for the long term under promotion coach Rubi. After all, the Rojiblancos have already managed to avoid direct relegation in their last two promotions.

After nine of 38 completed match days, however, the reigning second division champions are currently only in 18th place. They have already lost six of their first nine games (two wins, one draw) – including five of their last six league games.

Four of last six league games without a goal of their own

At least at home at the Power Horse Stadium, however, things have been fundamentally solid for the Andalusians, who have recorded their two victories so far this season in home games, including a 2-1 win over big name Sevilla FC.

However, given that their attack has scored just eight goals in nine league games and has failed to score in four of their last six, their solid home record is not enough to make them the favourites.

Girona – Statistics & current form

Girona FC was founded as early as 1930, but for decades only eked out a marginal existence in the lower divisions. It was only after finishing second at the end of the 2016/17 season that the team made the leap to La Liga for the first time.

The Blanquivermells subsequently spent two years in Spain’s top division, partly because the City Football Group subsequently acquired shares in the club and the Catalans have continued to borrow promising talent from Manchester City ever since.

Eight points from a possible 27 from the first nine league games

After relegation in the summer of 2019, Girona always qualified for the play-offs, which they finally won this year. Under promotion coach Míchel, the next good run in La Liga should now be started. After nine matchdays, the Catalans are above the line.

The Blanquivermells have collected eight out of a possible 27 points so far, although they are only one point ahead of the first relegation place, which is occupied by today’s hosts from Andalusia. With an away win, the Gironistes could build a nice cushion for themselves

None lost in last four away games in Almeria

Generally, the aspect in favour of tip 2 for Almeria against Girona is that the Blanquivermells have always scored in the second half in their last three league games, came out of the break well and had plenty of energy at the back. However, the results have not been right of late with only one point out of a possible twelve from the last four games.

In addition, the Gironistes have also managed to win their only two games at home, while only one point has been taken away from home. It could be a tight game at the Power Horse Stadium, where Girona are unbeaten in four matches (two wins, two draws).

Predicted line-up of Girona:
Carlos – Gutiérrez – Hernández – Bernardo – Bueno – Mertínez – García – Romeu – Herrera – Riquelme – Castellanos

02/10/2022 – Girona 3 – 5 Real Sociedad

18/09/2022 – Real Betis 2 – 1 Girona

Almeria – Girona Direct comparison / H2H balance

Head to head: 9 – 6 – 5

There have been a total of 20 meetings between the two clubs and Almeria lead the direct comparison with nine wins. However, the Rojiblancos are currently on a four-game home winless streak against Girona (two draws, two defeats).

Almeria – Girona Tip

Both teams have scored mainly at home so far, which is why the prediction for Almeria against Girona leans very slightly towards the Andalusians. However, the Rojiblancos have not won against the Gironistes for four games at the Power Horse Stadium. In addition, the visitors have found it much easier to score goals, which could make the difference in a tight basement clash between two promoted sides.

Also because the Catalans have been convincing in the second periods and have recently scored three times in a row always in the second half, while Almeria have lost the second half three times in a row, we bet on the Blanquivermells to win at least one half.
