Second win for the Handball Ladies?

For every betting friend, a Handball World Cup with 32 teams is extremely exciting. Especially in the preliminary round there are usually victories of the favourites and even if the quotes are low, with a successful combination at least a nice profit can still be collected. On the second day of play, the German team is also the favourite against the team from Slovakia.

After the German women’s team’s opening win against the Czech Republic, the main thing is to take as many points as possible into the main round. Since the best three teams in the group of four will advance to the next round, a lot would have to go wrong if the German ladies were to finish last in the group.

In fact, it looks as if they can even aim for the group win. In any case, the second win in the second match should be achieved on Saturday. Henk Groener’s team is a firm favourite against the Slovakians and we also assume that the prediction between Slovakia and Germany should be a German win.

The Slovakian team is not under much pressure, because it was basically clear that the last group match against the Czech Republic will determine whether or not they make it to the main round.

Slovakia – Statistics & current form

Slovakia have been preparing properly for the World Cup in Spain and have already completed a four-country tournament, including Spain and Germany in the country of the World Cup host last week. Of course, the opponents were not the easiest and so, as the last of this preparatory tournament, they were not able to equip themselves with the necessary self-confidence.

Slovakia’s losing streak

There were three defeats in three games, in addition against the team from Poland. Meanwhile, the losing streak has grown to eight games. Coach Pavol Streicher will not expect this to end on Saturday of all days. Probably the only way to win in the duel between Slovakia and Germany is with odds that have something to do with a German victory.

The start of the World Cup went quite well for the Slovakians. The underdogs held their own against the favoured Hungarians for a long time. The score was 16:16 until the break, but Slovakia had to let up early in the second period. They took the lead for a short time, but at the latest after 26:20 for Hungary, the game was over. In the end, Slovakia lost 35-29.

The Slovakians do not have many well-known players in their squad. Austrian handball fans might know goalkeeper Adriana Medvedova from Fivers Margareten. Otherwise, there is only one supposed star player in the line-up, Simona Szarkova. Against Hungary, however, Reka Bizikova was her team’s most successful scorer with eight goals.

The squad of Slovakia:
Goal: Medvedova, Ivanicja, Oguntoyova
Back: Balciova, Holejova, Bizik, Rebicova, Hudakova, Szarkova, Nemethova, Lancz, Bujnochova
Left wing: Popovcova, Bizikova
Right wing: Pocsikova, Stefanikova
Circle: Trunkov, Dulinova
Coach: Streicher

Germany – Statistics & current form

Qualification for the main round should basically be a done deal for Henk Groener’s team. Now it’s all about taking home as many points as possible. With a win on Saturday, the DHB ladies would already have two secure points for the next round, in which they have to finish in one of the first two places in a group of six.

Grandiose World Cup start

The German women are in very good form. In the last nine games, they only lost to the runners-up from Spain and that only by one goal. On the other hand, they defeated the Olympic silver medallist from Russia. Many German women have developed very well at their foreign clubs.

There was also one on Thursday in the great performance against the Czech Republic. The German team pulled clear early on and at 17:10 it was already clear at the break that victory on this day would only be a question of how high.

In the end, Germany won 31:21 and stood out especially because of the team unity. With only four goals, Alina Grijseels and Julia Maidhof were already the best scorers. In the end, all German field players scored, which is also an expression of the quality on the bench.

The Germany squad:
Goal: Eckerle, Filter
Back: Grijseels, Petersen, Zschocke, Smits, Bölk, Kalf, Stolle
Left Wing: Lauenroth, Stockschläder
Right wing: Maidhof, Berger
Circle: Schmelzer, Antl, Schulze
Coach: Groener

Slovakia – Germany Direct Comparison / H2H-Balance

Since the 2014 European Championship, the teams from Germany and Slovakia have faced each other in only four matches. Three of these games were won by the German team and once there was a draw. What is striking is that it was usually close. The German women celebrated the clearest victory in a test match last week.

Last Saturday, Germany won 32:25. However, Slovakia was still ahead at the break. Maybe the Slovakians only have the strength for 30 to 35 minutes, because the match at the World Cup opener against Hungary was a mirror image of this test match against Germany.

Slovakia – Germany tip

In the preparation against Germany, as well as in the World Cup opener against Hungary, the Slovakian team kept up very well for a half, but then collapsed significantly in the second period. If you want to be really crazy, you could place a bet on a half-time lead for Slovakia and a victory for the German women.

It would be a sensation if the German team were to slip up on Saturday. Their performance in the first match against the Czech women was too strong. Coach Henk Groener only found small adjustments that he has to make before Saturday. Therefore, between Germany and Slovakia, the prediction has to go to a German victory.

However, we can imagine that the German team will take out some percentages in case of a clear lead in order to save some energy for the important match against Hungary. That’s why we don’t expect the Slovakians to be completely blown out of the hall. We think it could be similar to the test match last week. That’s why we decided to play the betting odds on a handicap win for Slovakia (+7.5) between Slovakia and Germany
