Will Clayton progress to the semi-finals again?

The curtains are up for the tenth night in the ongoing Darts Premier League 2023. As always the mini tournament of the PDC will start with the quarterfinals and in the middle will be Jonny Clayton who will meet Nathan Aspinall for the tournament opener. So far this match was only played once in the current Premier League: in the fourth night.

Jene’s duel in the Premier League was won by Jonny “The Ferret” Clayton. For the Welshman it was already the third victory in a row against “The Asp”. If the next success beckons, betting odds of up to 1.80 will be paid out for an Aspinall vs.

Taking a look at the Englishman’s recent form curve, a bet on Nathan Aspinall to win on the tenth Premier League night can only be justified with a lot of optimism. After all, the PDC world number nine has lost five of his last eight matches – most recently against German darts pro Martin Schindler (3:6).

Clayton lost as well as “The Asp” against Schindler. Unlike the Englishman, however, the Welshman was only eliminated in the quarter-finals. Just a few days earlier, Clayton won the ninth night of the Premier League to claim his first win of the tournament. We think: Clayton has the potential to win the upcoming mini tournament this time as well.

Our Aspinall vs. Clayton prediction therefore aims at a win for the Welshman. The only question – at least according to our assessment – is how high the victory of “The Ferret” will be in the end.

Nathan Aspinall – Statistics & current form

Nathan Aspinall is the fourth best player in the rankings after nine nights in the ongoing Darts Premier League. The Englishman has not yet won a mini tournament in the current Premier League but “The Asp” only twice was eliminated in the quarterfinals – the tournament opener mind you.

In total the world number nine of the PDC with one final and six semifinal appearances has collected 15 points and is even better in the ranking than his next opponent Jonny Clayton. Over his 17 Premier League matches “The Asp” had a record of 8-9 for the Englishman.

Nathan Aspinall averaged 95.44 per match and threw the second most 180s of the current competition over the nine nights. But “The Asp” had only a meagre checkout rate of 34.57% – the worst value among the eight players of the PL 2023.

Aspinall fails again against Clayton?

It therefore remains to be seen how “The Asp” will fare in his upcoming quarter-final clash against Jonny Clayton. The Welshman has been one of Aspinall’s fearsome opponents in the recent past. The Englishman has not won against “The Ferret” since June 2020. Most recently, there were even three defeats in a row, including the last duel in February 2023.

Nathan Aspinall lost 4:6 to Jonny Clayton in the best-of-11. The defeat was mainly due to the bad checkout rate. Only four of his 27 throws on the doubles hit “The Asp”. Clayton on the other hand was a bit more accurate and had the better average against Aspinall.

Jonny Clayton – stats & recent form

Jonny Clayton is aiming for his next tournament win. Already last week the Welshman got the first victory in the ninth mini tournament of the Premier League and thus improved his bad record in the ranking. With his tournament success last week Clayton already climbed up to the fifth rank.

Clayton can clinch a starting spot for the play-offs as early as this week. The upcoming duel against Nathan Aspinall, who is currently ranked fourth and thus in the last starting position for the play-offs, will show the way. If “The Ferret” wins his tournament opener on the tenth night of the Premier League, Clayton will pass “The Asp”.

If the Welshman’s recent form curve is anything to go by, betting on it is obvious. Jonny Clayton has won five of his last six matches. Among others the Welshman defeated Michael Smith, the world number one of the PDC.

Can Clayton continue his recent form?

If Clayton carries the momentum into the tenth night of the Premier League, “The Ferret” can expect another matchday success this week. Against a player like “The Asp”, the scoring average will be the most important factor. As a high-average player, the Englishman usually cracks the 90 mark, so there is no room for error for Clayton.

Clayton has not lost to Aspinall in the best-of-11 since June 2020. It is quite possible that the series will continue in the upcoming PL duel. Bookmakers are currently offering betting odds of up to 1.80 on the Welshman for an Aspinall vs Clayton bet.

Nathan Aspinall – Jonny Clayton Direct comparison / H2H record

This is the eleventh time these two players have met. Jonny Clayton leads the head-to-head comparison against Nathan Aspinall so far with a record of 5-1-4. Especially in the last encounters “The Ferret” kept the upper hand. Since the April 2021 Premier League draw – old format mind you – Clayton has won each of the last three matches against “The Asp”.

So it was in the first and so far only showdown of this calendar year. “The Ferret” prevailed with a 6:4 against Nathan Aspinall. For the Englishman it was one of a total of two nights in which “The Asp” already had to say goodbye in the quarter-finals of the PL mini tournament.

Nathan Aspinall – Jonny Tipp

Jonny Clayton goes into the tenth night of the 2023 Premier League in current form with a broad chest. The Welshman is currently in captivating form and already won the mini-tournament last week. Not only did “The Ferret” beat Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price but he also scored a coup against Smith.

Considering how strong Clayton showed on the ninth night the Welshman can be expected to win the title again this week. The quarter-final duel against “The Asp” comes in handy. After all, Clayton has won the last three matches against the Englishman.

We expect a win for Jonny “The Ferret” Clayton this time as well and therefore venture a prediction on the Welshman. For Aspinall vs. Clayton, the odds for tip 2 are currently up to 1.80. We bet six units.
