The momentum is with the Raiders

It is well known that momentum plays a hugely important role in all team sports. In some cases, all it takes is a new impulse to turn the momentum in your own direction and release new self-confidence. This was the case with the Las Vegas Raiders, who fired head coach Josh McDaniels around two weeks ago and were able to land an immediate blow in their first match under new interim coach Antonio Pierce.

After Las Vegas’ fully expected 30:6 victory over the New York Giants, the next rival from the “Big Apple” now awaits. The Raiders will face the Jets as part of the Sunday Night Football (SNF) game. A prediction on the success of the New York Jets would have been much more likely two weeks ago than it is now. However, the franchise led by backup quarterback Zach Wilson was in poor form last Sunday and is currently struggling with its own offense in particular.

The significance of this head-to-head clash cannot be denied. Las Vegas has the opportunity, in the event of a win, to move to an even 5:5 record, which could rekindle faint playoff hopes. The Jets will not only be looking to bounce back from last week’s defeat, but also to record their fifth win in nine matches, which would put them back in the race for a playoff spot in the tough AFC. With a lot at stake and both teams having underachieved so far this season and having QB problems, the Raiders’ game against the Jets could also be a good bet for an underachievement

Las Vegas Raiders – Statistics & current form

Whoever saw the Las Vegas Raiders celebrating exuberantly with cigars after their win against the New York Giants last weekend would not even remotely believe that this was only their fourth win in the ninth league game of the current season. Nevertheless, it was the most important success so far in a disappointing season that has been anything but quiet.

After internal squabbles and two bitter defeats against the Bears and the Lions, those responsible were finally forced to take action and fired head coach Josh McDaniels, who had come under criticism. Previous linebackers coach Antonio Pierce is currently in the front office and seems to be bringing the fun, readiness and looseness back into the booth. As a result, Las Vegas put on by far their best performance of the season the previous week, scoring 30 points for the first time ever and ultimately winning 30-6 against the admittedly disastrously weak Giants.

Is superstar Adams now breaking out of his lethargy?

Nevertheless, this encounter impressively showed that the Raiders are nowhere near as bad as they were performing at times. With the new self-confidence, the undoubted potential and a pronounced “now-first-right” mentality, the upward trend should continue at the weekend. The fact that we see promising value in the odds for Las Vegas in the Raiders’ clash against the Jets is not based on any statistics, but merely on the momentum indicated.

If we look exclusively at the numbers, the franchise from the gambling stronghold still has one of the most harmless offenses, which has hardly been able to get any relief on the ground and also has major deficits through the air. It’s no wonder that rookie O’Connell is now in charge at quarterback. He didn’t manage a touchdown pass in the previous week, but at least he was largely error-free and a good game manager.

However, we definitely wouldn’t rule out a touchdown pass from the young playmaker next Sunday, especially as he has one of the best wide receivers in the NFL in Davante Adams in his ranks. However, the superstar has had a disastrous season so far and is hardly being found by his quarterbacks. Five matches in a row with under 50 yards caught now smell like a breakout game for the former Green Bay Packers pass receiver. Between the Raiders and the Jets, odds of 3.00 are being offered for an Adams TD – very interesting!

New York Jets – Statistics & current form

Before the start of the season, the New York Jets were seen by some experts as a potential contender for the Super Bowl. Now, however, the men from the “Big Apple” have to fear for their place in the playoffs. In any case, the season target was revised downwards after just four snaps played in the first match. The background to this was, of course, the injury to star new signing Aaron Rodgers, who ruptured his Achilles tendon and is unlikely to return this season.

Zach Wilson as backup quarterback is certainly not the right solution, in fact it is a real problem. The 24-year-old is currently one of the weakest quarterbacks in the NFL. Looking back over the past four games alone, the man from Utah has only managed a single touchdown pass. Although he has also lost few balls in the form of fumbles or interceptions, the QB ratings of consistently below 80 underline the fact that Wilson does not lead his offense down the field like Aaron Rodgers or many other random playmakers would, for example.

Without the defense, the Jets would hardly be competitive

To get to the heart of the problem and harmlessness, it should be mentioned that they have only scored an average of 16.9 points so far (30th out of 32 in the NFL), they rank 31st in total yards per game and the less than 170 passing yards per game is one of the weakest figures in the league. The Jets even rank last in third down percentage and red zone effectiveness! If Wilson then comes under as much pressure as he did the previous week in the 6:27 against the LA Chargers, when he was sacked eight times (!), another setback on Sunday night is inevitable.

At least you can rely on the defense. The franchise from New York is ranked in the top ten in most relevant areas. Only against the run are there major difficulties, which should not turn out to be particularly problematic against Josh Jacobs and Co. Still, the combination of a good defense and a very weak offense naturally suggests that the Raiders vs. Jets matchup will go down to a maximum of 38 points over the course of the game.

Las Vegas Raiders – New York Jets head-to-head comparison / H2H record

2020 was the last meeting between these two franchises. The Las Vegas Raiders won 31:28, but also had a different quarterback on the field in Derek Carr. The Jets have also changed a lot since then, so the relevance of the most recent direct duel is manageable. Nevertheless, it is interesting to note that both teams have come out on top four times in the last eight encounters. A trend is therefore not discernible

Las Vegas Raiders – New York Jets betting tip

Aesthetes of offensive football will probably not necessarily get their money’s worth on Sunday night. In the match between the Raiders and the Jets, the odds on a low-scoring match seem much more profitable. Both teams have problems getting their offense rolling. In both cases, the young, certainly not high-quality quarterbacks play a decisive role. The under 36.5, like the under 38.5, is definitely playable at even lower odds.

When it comes to the winner of this game, we see Las Vegas ahead. The Raiders are coming off a statement win from the previous week and have shown much of what they couldn’t under McDaniels. With new head coach Antonio Pierce bringing the good vibes back to the Locker Room, we don’t think it’s out of the question that O’Connell and Co. land their second win in a row and possibly boost their playoff aspirations after all.

We are therefore leaning towards a home win for Las Vegas between the Raiders and the Jets, for which exciting top odds of 1.95 are currently on offer. We even give Davante Adams and Co. a handicap of (-2.5) and thus get an extremely lucrative 2.15, which is worth a stake of six units
