Will Kadetten play away home advantage?

In the European League, Kadetten Schaffhausen are among the best eight teams in the current competition. The Swiss have well deserved their quarter-final ticket in the second most important international cup of the EHF. In the round before, the Kadetten already successfully prevailed against Ystads IF.

Now a difficult hurdle lies ahead: Füchse Berlin. Despite the home advantage, Kadetten Schaffhausen are underdogs against the German Bundesliga team in the quarter-final first leg. We think the role of the favourites is justified and, just like the bookmakers, tend to bet on the German representatives in the match between Kadetten Schaffhausen and Füchse Berlin.

The Füchse Berlin already rolled over a club like Skjern in the round before, picking up an aggregate result of 66:55. If the Berlin handballers take the momentum with them into the upcoming match, a similar result after the first and second legs cannot be ruled out against the Kadetten.

Nearly ten years ago, the two clubs met on the international stage. The last time the Foxes were guests of the Kadetten, it was a 40:35 against the Swiss representative. Our Kadetten Schaffhausen vs. Füchse Berlin prediction is also aiming for a high-scoring encounter.

Kadetten Schaffhausen – Statistics & current form

Kadetten Schaffhausen are aiming for the championship title in the Swiss NLA and already set the course for it in the quarter-finals of the current playoffs. As runners-up in the regular season, the Kadetten have already beaten HSC Suhr-Aarau twice in the playoffs and are now only one step away from a semi-final spot in the BO5.

Before the next match against the HSC, the forces must now be bundled on the international stage. Against the Füchse Berlin, the home advantage in the quarter-final first leg of the European League is of great importance after all.

At home, the Kadetten have not only won each of the last ten home games across all competitions since December 2022. In nine of those ten matches, the Swiss top club also scored at least 30 goals per home match. This was also the case in the round of 16 duel against Ystads IF in the European League. Against their Swedish opponents, the Kadetten even scored 38 goals (38:32).

Battle with the Berlin offence?

The Kadetten have enough offensive power to defy the Foxes as well. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that the recent scoring rate in home games will also be underpinned against the Berlin handballers. Consequently, it has Value to predict a high-scoring encounter in Kadetten Schaffhausen vs. Füchse Berlin.

With 384 goals in twelve matches, the Kadetten are the eleventh best offensive team in the EHF European League so far. Especially the efficiency was praiseworthy: out of 578 throw attempts, 384 were converted, i.e. 66.4% of all throws. It was therefore not at all surprising that in the previous round against Ystads, the Swiss offence dominated at will.

Odinn Thor Rikhardsson is the fourth best scorer in the current competition with his 89 goals. In his eleven appearances, the Icelander even had an efficiency of 80.2% – best value in the European League. Against the quarter-final opponents from the German HBL, Rikhardsson is therefore a secret weapon for the cadets.

Füchse Berlin – statistics & current form

The Berlin handballers go into the quarter-final duel against the Kadetten with a broad chest. Not only because they drew level on points with THW Kiel on the last matchday of the HBL, but also because the Foxes have presented themselves in top form on the international stage so far.

Statistically, the German top club from the HBL is the best team in the current European League. The Foxes have already won twelve out of twelve matches in the European League. In the group phase, the Berliners easily won the group and even scored 34.3 goals per match.

Against Skjern, the second-placed team in the HBL continued to fly high and won on foreign soil with 28:23, whereby the result – at least in the amount – was mainly due to the inability of the opponent’s offensive and the lack of chances of the Füchse. In return, Füchse Berlin flexed their offensive muscles in the second leg.

Will the Berliners roll over the Cadets?

In the last two competitive games, Füchse Berlin scored a total of 71 goals, but in return they also rang the bell 64 times in the Berlin box. After the total of 70 goals in the EHF duel against Skjern, the spectators saw 65 goals in the HBL match between the Füchse and the “Recken”.

Since the match against TSV in the Handball Bundesliga, the Füchse have not played a game and thus have enough regeneration time before the quarter-final first leg against the Kadetten. Head coach Jaron Siewert expected a difficult task in Switzerland. Compared to the squad that last played in the HBL, Siewert is spared new personnel worries.

Kadetten Schaffhausen – Füchse Berlin tip

The Füchse Berlin are aiming for the Final Four in the EHF European League. With a good result in the first leg, the charges around head coach Siewert want to set the course for the final tournament in Flensburg. If the recent form curve of the Berlin handball players is anything to go by, the Füchse can also be expected to win against the Kadetten, who are strong at home.

However, the encounter in Switzerland will not be a foregone conclusion. Not only because Kadetten Schaffhausen won their last ten games in front of their home crowd, but also because their offence in particular has been brilliant lately. Rikhardsson, the Kadetten’s offensive star, has been a factor in the Swiss’ success.

We have a lot of confidence in the hosts from Switzerland. Especially the Kadetten’s offensive has the potential to challenge the Berlin handball players in the quarter-final first leg. With Kadetten Schaffhausen vs. Füchse Berlin, our betting odds aim for over 59.5 goals in the match. We are betting five units on this match.
