The two sides are getting closer and closer: the offer is for 5 million plus bonuses on a contract running through 2031, with no buyout clauses
Taking small steps toward the goal. Mike Maignan and Milan are on good terms; they’ve put past misunderstandings behind them and are now ready to move forward together. What’s missing? The signature on the new contract, which both sides are currently discussing. Only a few details remain, but now the club, the player (and especially the agents) are all pulling in the same direction—toward the long-awaited contract extension. Even the issue of the agent’s commission—the latest obstacle to emerge in recent weeks—now seems less daunting, so much so that a decisive meeting with Jonathan Kebe is scheduled for the coming days, following the away game in Rome; Kebe was already spotted in Milan after the victory over Como. The feeling is that this time, the meeting could end with a successful outcome.
This is a completely different scenario from the start of the season, when Magic Mike stayed at Milan, even though he had essentially said yes to Chelsea over the summer, before the club at Via Aldo Rossi responded “no, thank you” to the Blues’ offer. It was thought he would stay on a temporary basis until the expiration of his current contract—that is, June 30 of this year—especially given what happened in early 2025, when the Rossoneri backtracked on their renewal offer after the Frenchman made a few too many mistakes. However, sporting director Igli Tare—backed by CEO Giorgio Furlani, Max Allegri, and the coaching staff—immediately had the wild idea of changing Maignan’s mind, convincing him that his future could still be in Rossoneri colors. The enthusiasm sparked by the team’s strong results, the goalkeeper’s excellent performances, and Mike’s rapport not only with Allegri and assistant coach Landucci (who, not coincidentally, is a former Serie A goalkeeper…), but also with the new goalkeeper coach, Claudio Filippi, did the rest. And so we’ve arrived at today, when Maignan has once again developed a burning desire to return to Milan.
figures— The Rossoneri’s offer is on the table, just waiting to be ratified. A base salary of 5 million euros net, plus bonuses that are more or less easy to earn but sufficient to bring his total compensation roughly in line with Rafa Leao, the highest-paid player on the roster; no buyout clause; a contract that would run through June 30, 2031. Maignan practically has the pen in his hand—he just needs to put it to paper.
