Italian smiles, in every sense of the word. Napoli and Juventus win, as do Maresca and De Zerbi. Chelsea makes headlines by handing Barcelona a decisive 3-0 defeat. The Blues opened the scoring with a clumsy own goal by Koundé, who botched a clearance right on the goal line. Late in the first half, Araujo’s late challenge earned him a second yellow card, and with Barcelona down to ten men, the second half was all downhill from there. Estevao produced a stunning feat that made spectators rub their eyes in disbelief, and Delap sealed the victory. Marseille, on the other hand, enjoyed a very vintage performance from Aubameyang, who looked like the unstoppable force he was during his golden years at Borussia Dortmund. The striker scored a true center-forward’s brace to come back against Newcastle, who had taken the lead through Barnes.

Guardiola opted for a rotation, and his Manchester City side was punished without mercy. Bayer Leverkusen earned a well-deserved victory, thanks to goals from Grimaldo in the first half (a beautiful diagonal shot inside the box) and Schick (a clinical header) in the second. Not even Haaland’s entry in the final half-hour was enough to turn the game around. Borussia Dortmund cruised past Villarreal, with a brace from Guirassy and goals from Adeyemi and Svensson. Worth noting was Massa’s mistake, as he awarded a penalty to the Germans without sending off Foyth, who had blocked the shot on the goal line. VAR corrected the call; Guirassy missed from the spot but was quickest to react to the rebound to double the Yellow-and-Blacks’ lead. Slavia Prague and Athletic Bilbao played to a scoreless draw, with the Spaniards pressing with greater intensity after halftime; Stanek was outstanding in stopping the most dangerous shots.

mourinho—  Before finally smiling for the first time in the Champions League, José Mourinho waited with bated breath for the 90th minute, when Barreiro sealed the match and effectively secured Benfica’s victory on Ajax’s home turf. The coach, in fact, didn’t bat an eye when Dahl unleashed a terrifying left-footed shot into the top corner early in the match. He followed the game closely; the Dutch side only posed a threat midway through the second half. In the closing minutes, Barreiro plays a give-and-go with Aursnes and skillfully beats Jaros at his near post.
Galatasaray’s defeat—  It’s a different story for Galatasaray, who—without the injured Osimhen—are caught off guard by Union Saint-Gilloise. The match is decided by David’s goal in the 57th minute, when he turns an excellent cross from the byline into the net from the center of the box. It was a disappointing Champions League debut for young defender Arda Unyay, who was sent off in the closing moments after receiving a second yellow card.
