A week of sun and vacation awaits the Italian, who ran into Zverev on the plane: this year, he’s beaten him 4 out of 4 times

The 2025 tennis season, with Italy winning the Davis Cup, has come to a close. At least as far as the major circuit and the top players are concerned. The last of them to take the court, in Saturday’s Davis Cup semifinal victory (later lost by his Germany) against Spain’s Munar, was Alexander Zverev. After accepting the defeat, the world No. 3, who played 24 tournaments this season, immediately headed off on vacation. He’s headed to the Maldives, in search of sun and warm weather, as evidenced by an Instagram story featuring a special guest: “I guess it’s Maldives season for everyone, huh?” with two laughing emojis. Joining him on the plane is Jannik Sinner.

Sinner is set to begin his winter training leading up to 2026—which for him starts with the Australian Open (beginning January 18)—in early December in Dubai. A couple of weeks of vacation following the ATP Finals—including this one—before getting back to work to prepare as best as possible for the upcoming season. And so he ran into Zverev on the plane, and the German, who has an excellent relationship with Jannik (despite having lost to him 4 out of 4 times in 2025), took the opportunity for a fun social media post. He, too, is looking forward to a period of rest before resuming training for the upcoming season, which in his case will begin a couple of weeks earlier than the Italian’s. Zverev will, in fact, take part in the United Cup, a mixed-nation competition that awards ranking points, and is expected to play his first official match of 2026 as early as January 4.
