The Belgian and the club have agreed to terminate his contract, which was set to expire in June. He hasn’t played a match in a year and a half; his last of 36 appearances in a Rossoneri jersey was in May 2023. With his departure, no one remains from the post-Scudetto transfer window
Divock Origi, remember him? He hasn’t appeared on the field for the Rossoneri since May 2023, at the end of a season that saw him make 27 appearances—mostly as a substitute—and score two goals, against Monza and Sassuolo. Yet he’s often made headlines: after returning from a subsequent loan spell at Nottingham Forest, Origi then refused any further transfers, and hasn’t been seen in action since. He was no longer training at Milanello, by mutual agreement with the club. Just over a year ago, it emerged that the Belgian was spending time in Rome and Florence, training with a personal trainer: he had to stay in Italy for (partly) tax-related reasons. A return to the pitch, however, was clearly never on his mind.
There is news: the termination of the contract that tied him to Milan until next season is now official. The statement was brief: “AC Milan announces that it has mutually terminated the contract with forward Divock Origi. The Club wishes the player all the best for the future.” Farewell, after 36 games in the Rossoneri jersey, all in his first season. Milan will thus save some of the money still owed to him and close a terrible chapter. Origi had signed with the Rossoneri in 2022, shortly after winning the Scudetto. A contract worth 4 million euros net per season through June 2026, more than 300,000 euros a month. Since then, things have gone terribly wrong. A first season under Pioli as a substitute, with those two meaningless goals in the league and nothing in the Champions League. Then came the change in management, from Maldini and Massara to the Furlani-Moncada duo, who chose to send him on loan to Nottingham Forest to save on his salary. Another negative chapter, with his last match played in April 2024. There was a moment, in the summer of 2024, when a transfer to Turkey seemed possible, but then nothing came of it and Origi never set foot on the field again. So, from that 2022 transfer window, which wasn’t exactly productive, no one remains: Vranckx, Dest, Thiaw, De Ketelaere, and indeed Origi had all arrived. They are all elsewhere.
