The final, broadcast on Raidue and Sky, was a record-breaking match for the sport. Gattuso’s national team on Raiuno attracted 7.5 million viewers, but the share of those who watched Jannik was higher.

The ATP Finals was the most watched tennis match in TV history. Sinner beats himself. Yes, because the match against Alcaraz, broadcast on Raidue and Sky, attracted 7 million viewers (36.5% share), surpassing the 2023 final in Turin between Jannik and Djokovic, which stopped at 6.7 million, also on Raiuno.

In detail, on Raidue, the Turin event, from 6:15 p.m. to 8:29 p.m., recorded 5,550,000 viewers, with a 29% share. On pay TV, the match was broadcast by Sky, which holds the full TV rights to the event: 1,458,000 viewers, with a 7.5% share (2.6 million unique contacts). It was the best edition of the tournament ever for the Comcast broadcaster, with three matches exceeding 800,000 viewers and an average of 500,000 per match.

method—  The audience figures for yesterday’s match, compiled by Studio Frasi, are total audience figures, i.e., they include viewing on PCs, smartphones, and tablets. It should be noted that Auditel introduced a new measurement method at the end of 2024, in line with changing consumer habits. Sinner-Alcaraz did slightly better than the final two years ago considering only ‘big screens’: 6,789,000 versus 6,686,000. With the ‘total audience’, it took off: 7,008,000.

national—  Confirming the exceptional nature of Sinner’s audience, we would like to point out that on the same Sunday, in prime time, the soccer match between Italy and Norway totaled 7.5 million viewers on Raiuno, in total audience. Tennis was close behind soccer (and had a higher share: 36.5% versus 34%). It is true that Gattuso’s Azzurri match, which began shortly after the end of the Finals, had no bearing on the result, but it is equally true that it enjoyed prime time exposure and the pull of the flagship network.
