Will Barca get back on the road to success?

With the 5:2 in the final of the Supercopa, Hansi Flick’s team sent an impressive signal to the competition. Whether the prestigious success in the “Clasico” can also be transferred to the league, however, remains questionable. Ahead of the game in Getafe against Barcelona, in which the odds naturally see the guest as the clear favorite, the Catalans are already six points behind leaders Atletico Madrid.

That was not at all foreseeable at the halfway point of the season. After twelve outstanding matches in La Liga, eleven of which “Blaugrana” won, Hansi Flick’s team was almost uncatchable by the competition. However, an unprecedented crash followed. In just seven games (1W, 2D, 4L), the Catalans not only squandered their entire lead, but also plummeted to third place. In addition to the sporting decline, the farce surrounding the registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor also made negative headlines surrounding the team.

At least for the moment, however, the players of the record Supercup winners have managed to turn the page on the discord. With their second comfortable win in the second Clasico this season, Hansi Flick’s young team have bought themselves time to get back on track. It remains to be seen whether they can get their first league win at Getafe since the beginning of December.

Getafe – statistics & current form

With the 2-1 win against Las Palmas last weekend, the team from the Madrid metropolitan area was able to gain some breathing space in the relegation battle. Thanks to goals from Da Costa and Mayoral, “Los Azulones” are now three points above the drop zone.

CoachLegend

A long-standing constant on the Getafe coaching bench is Pepe Bordalas. The 60-year-old Spaniard has been on the Azulones’ side line since September 2016, with the exception of a brief stint in Valencia. At the time, he took over the club, which had just been relegated from the Spanish second division, and led it straight back to the top flight. His best spell at the Madrid suburb club followed immediately afterwards. In 2019, he led his team to 5th place in the table and thus to the Europa League for the first time since 2010/11, where they were knocked out in the round of 16.

They followed that with an eighth-place finish before finishing the season in 15th place for the third year in a row, which is also where they currently stand. The team’s biggest asset is their defense, with only 13 goals scored, the weakest offense in the league.

Defensively strong

Only Real Sociedad and league leaders Atletico have conceded fewer goals than the “Azulones” this season. In only two of the 19 first-half games did the team from the lower midfield of the league concede more than one goal. However, it is doubtful whether this will also succeed against the Catalans, who have by far the best offense in the league. Rather, it is to be expected that the forecast for more than 2.5 hits will come true at Getafe against Barcelona.

Barcelona – Statistics & current form

The fact that the betting providers’ prediction for the Barcelona v Getafe game is clearly in favor of the guest team is not a big surprise, despite the recent phase of weakness in La Liga. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that “Barca” has only won one of the last seven league games and is still looking for form. Three of the Catalans’ five defeats this season have been against teams from the bottom half of the table, with Osasuna, Leganes and Las Palmas. So instead of betting on favorites to win at extremely low odds, betting on “1/X” could be worthwhile for Getafe vs. Barcelona.

Joan Laporta, the Rumpelstiltskin

It is common knowledge that the president of FC Barcelona is not above engaging in public bickering. Nevertheless, his behavior during the Supercopa final, when he is said to have verbally attacked officials, according to Spanish media reports, is causing a stir, even though Laporta has denied all accusations.

This week, he has even gone further and, during a 90-minute press conference, has lashed out against critics – including some within his own ranks. However, he did have words of praise for coach Flick. He was also pleased that, following a decision by the Spanish Supreme Sports Council, the match permits for Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have finally been received.

With anger in the belly

One in particular should be keen for the game Getafe against Barcelona, where the odds are in favor of the Catalans. Dani Olmo, the 60-million-man, has already scored five goals in La Liga, but had to fear for his playing permit until recently. However, after he already played in the Spanish Super Cup, nothing stands in the way of his return to the league. With a lot of anger in his belly due to recent events, he can be trusted to play well against Getafe. If the offensive all-rounder scores, Winamax offers odds of 3.95, which carries risks but is high enough to take.

Getafe – FC Barcelona Head to head / H2H record

43 meetings have taken place between these two teams so far and the record could hardly be more one-sided. 30 wins for the Catalans are matched by just 4 for the “Azulones”. However, Pepe Bordalas’ team have not lost to Barca in four home games.

Getafe – Barcelona Tip

In the game against Getafe, FC Barcelona are of course the big favorites. The Catalans come to the Madrid suburb with a great deal of self-confidence after their 5-2 victory over Real. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that Hansi Flick’s team have only won one of their last seven La Liga games. That means that there has never been a better chance for Getafe to take something home.

Although the Azulones have one of the best defenses in the league, the over 2.5 goals tip is probably the safest betting option for Getafe vs. Barcelona. The Catalans alone score an average of 2.7 goals per game. For a higher profit margin, you can also bet on a goal from Dani Olmo, who is finally eligible to play again after the fuss surrounding his registration.
