Will the Black & Reds remain untouchable?

The only two German clubs to reach the Europa League round of 16 will face each other in the first Sunday match of matchday 26 of the Bundesliga. While the Black Forest were unable to defend their first-leg victory at West Ham United and went down 5-0 in London, the Rhinelanders enjoyed another magical evening against Qarabag Agdam and advanced to the quarter-finals thanks to two last-minute goals. The betting odds are once again in favor of a win for the Black & Reds against Leverkusen in Freiburg

However, Sport-Club have only lost two of their last ten Bundesliga home games against Bayer 04 (three wins, five draws). Freiburg v Leverkusen is therefore definitely not a foregone conclusion in terms of extending the Werkself’s unbeaten run of 37 competitive matches in Breisgau. Nevertheless, it would be surprising if the Rhinelanders were to stumble against SCF, who are not in great form and have won just one of their last six Bundesliga games (two draws, four defeats).

At home, SC Freiburg, who have already conceded 19 goals and have the weakest defense in the second half of the Bundesliga so far, have now been winless in three Bundesliga home games in a row (two draws, one defeat). Leverkusen, on the other hand, not only have the best defense in Germany’s top division, but have also won all of their last five Bundesliga away games.

And yet, with a comfortable ten-point lead, it will once again be difficult for the Werkself to maintain concentration over 90 minutes. Conceding goals is therefore not out of the question, which is why we find the greatest value in betting on over 2.5 goals. However, even in the event of a defeat, Bayer 04 would go into the international break as leaders. By the way: Interwetten is currently giving away tickets for the clash between Germany and Holland. Freiburg – Statistics & current form

SC Freiburg may be on the verge of a change. After their next adventure in the knockout phase of the Europa League ended with a crushing 5-0 defeat at West Ham United on Thursday evening, the Sport-Club’s chances of being represented at international level again in 2024/25 have diminished somewhat.

Coach Christian Streich, who became coach of Freiburg’s U19s in 1995, was promoted to assistant coach in a dual role in 2007 and has been in charge of the Breisgau club since 2012, announced his intention to provide information about his future at the start of next week. Many insiders expect him to announce his retirement at the end of the season

Freiburg are not going into the game with too much momentum

The last few weeks in the Bundesliga have also been very complicated for the Black Forest side, who have gone six matchdays without a win (two draws, four defeats). Last weekend’s 2:1 away win at VfL Bochum saw the team from Baden-Württemberg once again prove ice-cold, especially in front of goal.

Overall, however, things have not gone too smoothly for Sport-Club so far in the second half of the season, who also have the weakest defense in the Bundesliga second half of the season, having already conceded 19 goals. As a result, the odds are now against Christian Streich’s side in Freiburg v Leverkusen

Despite everything, Freiburg were difficult to beat at home

A further complication is that SCF have not been overly convincing at home recently. Freiburg have not won any of their last three Bundesliga home games (two draws, one defeat) and have already conceded 19 goals in Breisgau, which is only bettered by five other Bundesliga clubs.

Nevertheless, the Black Forest side have scored in ten of their twelve Bundesliga home games in the 2023/24 season (five wins, two draws). Only Leverkusen (not at all), Bayern, Stuttgart and Frankfurt (once each) have lost even less often at home than Freiburg (twice).

Predicted Freiburg line-up:

Leverkusen – Statistics & current form

The dream of a treble is still alive at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, although even a single title would be a huge coup for the Werkself, who have not been overly blessed with titles in their history. In terms of the championship trophy, it would even be the very first triumph in the club’s history.

The question of “Who will be cup winners in 2024?” is actually already settled on paper. After all, the Rhinelanders are the last Bundesliga team among this year’s four semi-finalists and therefore the real heavy favorites. Last but not least, something could still happen in the Europa League

Leverkusen’s unbeaten streak lives on

The Black & Reds came within a whisker of their first competitive defeat of the 2023/24 season during the week, when they came from 2-0 down against Qarabag Agdam to turn the game around in regulation time. The 3:2 victory was ultimately the 37th consecutive competitive match without defeat.

In the Bundesliga, the 25 games without defeat in the 2023/24 season (21 wins, four draws) are already historic for the club, which set a new club record and had the second-best season ever played by a Bundesliga club (after Bayern, who already had 71 points to their name at the same time in 2013/14)

What surprises does Xabi Alonso have in store for us now?

Now it’s time to take the comfortable ten-point lead over the finish line. For the first time in the club’s history, the Rhinelanders could now win six Bundesliga away games in a row if Xabi Alonso’s side win their next three-pointer against Leverkusen in Freiburg.

There will undoubtedly be a lot of rotation, as the Spaniard once again started a number of reserves in the shaky progression in the Europa League in order to keep an eye on the load control. However, the late, albeit deserved, success once again proved the coveted coach, who continues to be linked with teams such as Bayern, Liverpool and Barcelona, right.

Predicted Leverkusen line-up:

Freiburg – Leverkusen head-to-head comparison / H2H result

Head to head: 13 – 14 – 22

A total of 49 meetings have taken place between the two teams so far and Bayer Leverkusen lead the direct comparison with 22 wins. The Black & Reds have already won the first leg against the Black Forest side 2-1, but have only won two of their last ten Bundesliga away games in Breisgau (five draws, three defeats).

Freiburg – Leverkusen betting tip

The betting odds for Freiburg v Leverkusen are clearly in favor of the visitors from the Rhineland. That in itself is consistent, especially as the Black & Reds have won all of their last five Bundesliga away games. However, the Black Forest side are once again very efficient and undoubtedly have the potential to make life difficult for the leaders

Although betting tip 2 is also possible in principle, our prediction for Freiburg v Leverkusen is that at least three goals will be scored in this Sunday match. After all, both sides are likely to rotate due to the Europa League, which could disrupt the automatisms, especially defensively

For over 2.5 goals there are odds of 1.75 available at Betway, which we play with five out of ten units.
