Does the ‘Owls’ continue to soar?
The home side were promoted from League One to the English lower house last season, but are second-last and have to fear for their survival in the division. The visitors, for their part, have a good chance of making an immediate return after relegation from the Premier League.
The team currently occupies third place, which does not mean direct promotion to the PL, but does mean participation in the play-offs for the last promotion ticket. For the showdown between Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds, the prediction of a goal by Ike Ugbo for the underdogs now seems profitable
Sheffield Wednesday – stats & current form
The “Owls” are in the basement of the table, but have recently improved significantly. They have now won all four rounds of matches! The four-time English champions, most recently in 1930, are clearly far from giving up. Among other things, the offense has improved with an average of 1.5 goals.
At the same time, the defense has shown an upward trend, recently recording two clean sheets in the victories against Rotherham and Plymouth. Nevertheless, the hosts, together with bottom club Rotherham, still have the weakest attacking record in the Championship with 30 goals after 36 rounds of matches
Wednesday more stable at home
In addition, German coach Danny Röhl’s side are noticeably stronger at home than away. While the promoted side from League One occupy fourth-last place in the Championship’s away rankings, they are at least 13th in the 24-team division in the home rankings.
Furthermore, 25 of the home side’s 38 points this season have been scored in front of their own fans and the attack is more accurate on home turf: the Owls have scored two thirds of their goals this season at Hillsborough.
In view of this and the recent improvement in form, the Sheffield Wednesday vs Leeds betting tip and double chance odds in favor of the hosts are also worth considering.
Predicted line-up for Sheffield Wednesday:
Beadle – Ihiekwe, Bernard, Iorfa, Valentin Sancho, Johnson – Gassama, Bannan, Vaulks, Poveda – Ugbo
Leeds – Statistics & current form
United recently had to bow out of the FA Cup due to a defeat at first division side Chelsea. In the league, on the other hand, things are going well for the “Peacocks”. Coach Daniel Farke’s team (9-1-0) have won nine of the last ten rounds.
Thanks to this impressive record of the 1972 FA Cup winners, they are now putting pressure on the previously very confident league leaders from Leicester. The visitors are now only five points behind the “Foxes”.
One guarantee for Leeds’ successful season is their solid defense. No team has conceded fewer goals than United! What’s more, the 19th-placed team in the Premier League last season boasts a number of prolific scorers, including Dutchmen Joel Piroe and Crysencio Summerville. Both players already have a double-digit goal tally
Efficient James is back in the Leeds attack
Welshman Daniel James, the club’s third striker with a double-digit goal tally, has recently returned from injury. In his first league game as part of the starting eleven since his comeback last Tuesday night against Stoke, he also contributed the decisive goal in the 1-0 win over City.
In view of this, it seems worth considering another goal from him for the visiting Elland Road side in the match between Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds.

Predicted Leeds line-up:
Meslier – Ampadu, Rodon, Roberts, Byram – Kamara, Gruev, Rutter – Summerville, Bamford, James
Sheffield Wednesday – Leeds head-to-head / H2H record
In the first half of the season, the match between Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds ended in a goalless draw. The draw means the home side are unbeaten in three matches against United (1-2-0). Not a new pattern: In a longer review of the past ten years, the hosts also have the edge in this pairing (5-5-4)
Sheffield Wednesday – Leeds tip
In the clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds, the prediction is for Ike Ugbo to score for the hosts. The Canadian recently moved to Sheffield Wednesday and hit the ground running.
After just nine appearances, the 25-year-old already has half a dozen goals to his name. He has also scored in four of the last six league games and even scored twice in the games against Birmingham and Bristol!
Ugbo has also proven his class in the past. He scored double-digit goals for his former employers Roda Kerkrade in the 2019/20 season in the Dutch Eerste Divisie and the following season for Cercle Brugge in the Belgian Jupiler League.
Most recently, Ugbo was employed by league rivals Cardiff City, where he was unable to build on these earlier top performances. Now he seems to have rediscovered his goalscoring touch with the home side, which is why the odds on his next goal in Wednesday’s clash with Leeds look particularly interesting despite the visitors’ unquestionably impressive form and top defensive line.
