Will Harry Kane extend his goal streak?
It’s Wiesn time in Munich. Every year it is something very special for FC Bayern to play home games when the Oktoberfest is going on. It is an unwritten law that defeats, even more than usual, are forbidden during this fifth season. In our Bayern vs Bochum tip, we don’t expect Thomas Tuchel’s team to let anything slip in this regard.
However, it has to be said that Munich’s home record is weaker during the Oktoberfest than outside the Wiesn. Maybe one or the other player is already thinking about his performance in the marquee in between. In any case, FC Bayern has a win rate of 64 percent in home games during the Oktoberfest. In general, however, the record champions have a 75 per cent win rate.
Bayern’s current form, however, makes it clear that both figures could go up on Saturday. In the Bundesliga table, Bayern is tied for second place behind Leverkusen. They had a successful start in the Champions League and only lost in the Supercup. Currently, a lot is right with the FCB and therefore we expect that between Bayern and Bochum the forecast should fit a relatively clear home victory.
VfL are once again struggling to get off the starting blocks and are in 13th place with three points after four games. Thomas Letsch’s team is still waiting for a win.
Bayern – Statistics & current form
There will be a change on the bench of FC Bayern on Saturday. During the week, Thomas Tuchel was suspended in the Champions League against Manchester United and was replaced by his co-coach Zsolt Löw. On Saturday, however, the Hungarian will have to watch out because he picked up a red card against Leverkusen last week. But because the boss is taking over personally, we don’t expect any major problems in this respect.
Blueprint to preseason
The current season is a bit of a mirror image of the previous year. The Bavarians started with three victories before losing their first point. So far, everything is in the green, but if things continue as they did last year, there will be no more wins in the next three games. Given Bayern’s current form, however, we think this scenario is out of the question and look at the odds for a bigger handicap win for the record champions in the match between Bayern and Bochum.
One who could play his part is Harry Kane. The England captain has scored in all four of his Bundesliga games. Only Miroslav Klose has managed this feat before him. Because VfL Bochum is a team that allows a lot of penalties, we can imagine that the centre-forward will also score on Saturday, maybe even several times.
During the week, there was a largely successful performance in the royal class against Manchester United. Bayern led very early and after goals from Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane, it was 3:1 until the 88th minute. But then it got turbulent once again. It was just as well that Mathys Tel scored the 4:2 in the meantime and it never really became dangerous, despite the 4:3 victory.
Predicted Bayern line-up:
Bayern Munich (Expected line-up) 4-2-3-1
Bochum – Statistics & current form
If one can speak of a similar season at FC Bayern as last year, then the same applies to VfL Bochum. Last year, too, the Revierklub remained without a win after four games, even extended the series to just one point from eight games and still remained in the top flight. Things are looking much better this year, especially as the trend is at least a little more positive.
VfL Bochum still winless this season
After the defeat at the start of the season in Stuttgart, there have recently been three draws in a row. That means Thomas Letsch’s side are unbeaten in three games. At the end of the day, however, that’s not enough for us to make a prediction on VfL winning another point between Bayern and Bochum, the task is probably too tricky for that.
In addition, the Revierklub has had major problems on away trips for months now. VfL Bochum have won just two of their last 20 away games, in Cologne in March and in Augsburg last November. Since the start of last season, on the other hand, no other Bundesliga team has lost more away games than Bochum. Only Hertha BSC, which was relegated, has lost 13 away games in this period.
At Castroper Straße, on the other hand, things look a little different. Last weekend, there was a 1-1 draw against Frankfurt. Eintracht initially took the lead before Kevin Stöger equalised with a penalty for the final score. The exciting thing about the VfL line-up was that Thomas Letsch trusted the same formation for the third time in a row. That doesn’t happen very often in today’s professional football either.
Predicted line-up of Bochum:
VfL Bochum (Expected line-up) 3-5-2
Bayern – Bochum Direct comparison / H2H balance
There may be Bochum fans who travel everywhere but to Munich. The trip to the Isar is rarely successful. Bochum have played FC Bayern 36 times in the Bundesliga and only in August 1991, at the Olympiastadion, did the Revierklub take the three points. There have been eight more draws, but also 27 defeats.
In total, the two teams have faced each other in 79 matches. The direct comparison, with 53:10 wins and 16 draws, is clearly in favour of the record champions. Last season, things went very badly for VfL in the direct duels. At home, they suffered a 7-0 defeat. In the second leg, the Munich side took things a little easier with a 3-0 home win after goals from Müller, Coman and Gnabry.
Bayern – Bochum tip
It won’t be a perfect Wiesn week for Bayern after last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Leverkusen, but after the win against Manchester United and a scheduled win against Bochum, the star of the south could certainly live quite well with two wins and a draw. For that, the three points must come on Saturday and we assume that will work.
Bayern have proven their qualities several times in recent weeks. Bochum, on the other hand, are still waiting for their first win this season. At least they haven’t lost any of their last three games. However, that is not enough for us to bet on VfL winning a point. Instead, we tend to place a tip in the Bwin app on a clear handicap victory for the home side between Bayern and Bochum.
We also expect the record champions to remain hungry for goals after their 4-3 win over Manchester United. The only player to score four times in his first four Bundesliga games in an FCB shirt is probably Harry Kane, who is the only Munich player apart from Miroslav Klose. We think the Englishman will go one better and in the end we even decided to play the betting odds on multiple goals from the centre-forward between Bayern and Bochum.
