Another surprise coup for Celta?

The Himmelblauen from Vigo can breathe a sigh of relief. After two wins in a row, including a surprise coup at Betis, Celta Vigo recently fought their way into mid-table in La Liga and are therefore no longer in danger of relegation for the time being. The lead over the relegation places was even extended to four points with the latest victory in Andalusia.

This week, Celta now face the next difficult hurdle. The Himmelblauen face the resurgent “Colchoneros” from Madrid and are the slight underdogs.

If you take a look at the recent H2H between the two clubs, it is by no means far-fetched to make a prediction on the visitors in the Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid match. After all, the Madrilenians have already won the last three league encounters against Celta Vigo. Atletico even swept their league rivals from Vigo out of the stadium 4:1 in their first seasonal duel in 2022/23.

Celta Vigo – Statistics & current form

After a mixed first half of the season, Celta Vigo found their way back to success at the start of the second half. The Himmelblauen have conceded only one defeat in the last six league games and thus fought their way out of the bottom of the table. After 20 match days, Celta are now in twelfth place and have even built up a small points cushion.

The recent winning streak was particularly praiseworthy. After a 1:0 win against Bilbao, who finished last in the table, Celta Vigo also won 4:3 against Betis Sevilla. The “Celestes” were thus able to improve their poor record on foreign soil. The next home game is coming up this week.

Celta Vigo will not hide against the supposed favourites from Madrid. Although they have lost their last three league encounters against Atlético, the Himmelblauen from Vigo are confident going into Sunday’s match, which is partly due to their recent record at the Estadio de Balaidos. Celta have gone unbeaten at home three times in a row recently.

Will Celta lose their next home game against Atlético?

If the recent streak continues at the Estadio de Balaidos, Celta can also end the negative trend against Atletico Madrid. In the last two seasons, the “Celestes” conceded two defeats in home games against Atlético Madrid. The last time they won a home match against the “Colchoneros” from Madrid was in September 2018.

Betting fans who still want to bet on the hosts despite the recent H2H in Vigo can pick up betting odds of 3.60 for tip 1 in the event of success for Celta Vigo vs Atletico Madrid.

Compared to the starting eleven that was deployed against Betis last week, the Himmelblauen’s injury list remains unchanged. Head coach Carvalhal will probably start the match against Atlético with the same starting line-up. The main starter will be attacking star Veiga. The youngster scored two of the four goals against Betis Sevilla.

Atletico Madrid – Statistics & current form

Atlético Madrid still remain a wonder package in La Liga. After previously defeating teams like Valladolid (3-0) and Osasuna (1-0), the “Colchoneros” failed last week against, of all teams, bottom of the table Getafe. The Madrilenians only got one point in what was supposed to be a compulsory task.

The result was a bitter setback, as Atlético missed a great opportunity to extend their lead over the chasing pack. Instead, Vallecano, a rival in the fight for international places, reduced the gap to the Madrid team.

Nevertheless, Atlético will have the chance to make amends this week, but three points at their upcoming opponents from Vigo are a must. In the first half of the season, the red-and-whites already ensured a clear balance of power against Celta and celebrated a 4:1 victory. This was the eighth time in a row that Atlético remained unbeaten in a competitive match against Celta Vigo.

Atlético show a defiant reaction?

Compared to the first duel of the season, the league rivals from Vigo have improved considerably recently, as can also be seen from Celta’s recent form curve. It therefore remains to be seen whether Atlético will continue their recent series against the Himmelblauen or fail again in the league.

The day’s form of the defence will be the most important factor against Celta. The defensive bulwark of the Madrilenians did not leave the best impression against Getafe, the fourth weakest offensive team in the league. It would therefore not be surprising if they conceded at least one goal against Celta Vigo.

The shine of the supposed best defence in Europe has disappeared anyway. Head coach Simeone nevertheless still enjoys the fullest confidence of those in charge and will therefore still finish the 2022/23 season as head coach of the “Colchoneros”.

Celta Vigo – Atletico Madrid Direct comparison / H2H record

Celta Vigo and Atlético Madrid meet for the 120th time. The Madrilenians lead the direct comparison so far with a record of 72-22-25. Atlético have not lost any of their last eight league encounters against Celta Vigo since September 2018. Five of the last eight matches have even been won by the top club from Madrid.

This was also the case in the first half of the current season. The Madrilenians beat Celta Vigo 4:1 in front of their home crowd. This was Atlético’s highest win against Celta Vigo since March 2018. This time, too, we are leaning towards the odds on the capital club between Celta Viga and Atletico Madrid.

Celta Vigo – Atletico Madrid Tip

Atlético Madrid came away comparatively happy with the draw against Getafe. Competitors such as Betis and Villarreal could not take advantage of the league slip-up of the Madrilenians, only Rayo Vallecano reduced the gap to the fourth-placed team from Madrid. In doing so, Atlético also squandered the momentum of their mini-winning streak.

Before that, head coach Simeone’s team had won against clubs like Valladolid and Osasuna. In both matches, Atlético kept their clean sheet, so it was all the more surprising that they conceded a goal in the supposedly compulsory match against Getafe, which ultimately led to a draw. This time, Celta Vigo and Atletico Madrid have a lot in favour of the visitors.

In Vigo, we do not rule out an act of defiance by the Madrilenians. There is enough potential for that in the top-class squad of the “Colchoneros”. With a stake of five units, we place our bet on Atlético in Celta Vigo vs Atlético Madrid. This would be the fourth win in a row for the Red and Whites against the Sky Blues from Vigo.
