Can FC Copenhagen end their negative streak against BVB?

Can FC Copenhagen end their negative streak against BVB? As the only team in the competition without a goal, it will probably be very difficult. Not only have the Danes failed to win a single game against the German representatives from Dortmund, they have also yet to pick up a single point or score a goal.

If Neestrup’s team fails to score on the final matchday, Copenhagen would become only the fourth team in CL history to bow out of the competition without scoring. Ahead of the clash between FC Copenhagen and Borussia Dortmund, the betting odds are therefore also pointing to an away win.

Borussia have never lost a match against a Danish team so far, but the task for Copenhagen seems to be very difficult. Already last season, BVB showed no mercy on the last matchday and that although all placings were decided then as well. On the last matchday of the group phase, the black-and-yellows swept Besiktas out of the stadium with 5:0. Therefore, it is not to be expected that Dortmund will give FC Copenhagen this match.

In BVB’s past 19 CL away games, there has never been a draw and thus this fact also argues against a goalless game. FC Copenhagen, however, are relatively good at going scoreless, as their two home games have both ended 0-0. However, this is not to be expected in the upcoming match, as both teams have nothing to lose and can therefore perform confidently. We therefore recommend betting on a win for the visitors and goals on both sides as a value tip between FC Copenhagen and Borussia Dortmund.

FC Copenhagen – Statistics & current form

Copenhagen are in last place in the Champions League Group G . The Danes have only managed to pick up two points from five games and are already safely bottom of the group. In a group with Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and FC Sevilla, however, this was bound to happen. So far, coach Jacob Neestrup’s team is without a goal in this CL season. On the last matchday, they should finally score their first goal against BVB and thus have a proper farewell from the Champions League.

In the first Danish league, Copenhagen is struggling with some problems this season. After the championship in the previous season, the Danes are currently only in fifth place. The gap to the league leader Nordsjaelland is already ten points. Even a place in the Champions Round is far from certain, because even AC Horsens in tenth place has only three points less on their account. Moreover, Midtjylland have played one game less and would pass the capitals with a draw.

Problems on the offensive

In the preseason, Copenhagen provided the second best offense and by far the best defense in the Superligaen. This season is a different story, as FC Copenhagen’s 23-20 goal differential is no worse than most other teams in the league, but no better either. This is partly due to the departures of Jonas Wind, Jens Stage and Pep Biel. In the previous season, these three players scored 31 points.

This is also reflected in the Champions League, as the capital club from Denmark is still without a goal in the top flight. In addition, FC Copenhagen has already conceded eleven goals in this competition, which further underlines the problems in the defence. It is difficult to say what the reason for this is, because very little has changed in terms of the squad’s defensive capabilities. It is rather due to the fact that the (new) coach is relying more on young players this season, some of whom are still very inexperienced. There is a radical change in the squad, which apparently should not wait.

Dortmund – Statistics & current form

Borussia from Dortmund finish the group stage safely in second place and are thus in the knockout round of the Champions League. There is no way up and no way down, because the direct comparison has already made a decision here. The match against FC Copenhagen is therefore probably a good opportunity to rotate a bit and give other players the chance to recommend themselves for further tasks.

This includes, among other things, the following match against VfL Bochum. Because in the 1st Bundesliga nothing is clear yet and the leading teams are very close to each other. A win against the relegation candidates is a must in order to keep up with FC Bayern and to continue to climb the table. BVB is currently in fourth place and their goal is clearly second place, if not the championship. But there is still a long way to go, as only one third of the games have been played.

The youngsters of BVB

With 34:19 goals across the competition, BVB seems to have no problems, especially on the offensive side. Dortmund only went three times without scoring a goal of their own. One of those games was the respectable 0:0 against Manchester City. The other two games were lost in Berlin and Leipzig without a goal of their own. The best player in Edin Terzić’s team is currently Jude Bellingham, who has already collected eleven points as a central midfielder

But Youssoufa Moukoko can also continue to dream of his first World Cup. With ten goals for BVB, he made it into Hansi Flick’s extended World Cup squad. Since Germany has problems in the centre of attack, players who previously received less playing time in the German national team are now coming into focus. At only 17 years old, he may still lack the necessary experience that Niclas Füllkrug, for example, already has.

Predicted Dortmund line-up:
Meyer – Rothe, Schlotterbeck, Can, Passlack – Reyna, Bellingham, Özcan, Wolf, Brandt – Modeste

FC Copenhagen – Dortmund Direct comparison / H2H-balance

The direct comparison between FC Copenhagen and Borussia Dortmund clearly goes to the visitors. This duel has only taken place three times in history and all games went to the Black and Yellows. In addition, the Danes have yet to score a single goal against Borussia and are therefore the clear underdogs in the upcoming match.

However, Edin Terzić will make one or two changes to the starting line-up, so the hosts are by no means without a chance. Nevertheless, a prediction can be made on the visitors between FC Copenhagen and Borussia Dortmund, as BVB is clearly superior in terms of quality.

FC Copenhagen – Dortmund Tip

Looking at the odds before the clash between FC Copenhagen and Borussia Dortmund, a win for the visitors seems the most likely. However, as the Black and Yellows will be rotating, betting on a winner in this clash carries risk, especially as there is nothing left at stake for either team. It is therefore much more likely that an open game will develop and that there will be a few goals. The offensive qualities of the visitors are undisputed, but defensively BVB slip up here and there.

We therefore play the tip over 2.5 goals between FC Copenhagen and Borussia Dortmund. On the visitors’ side, a number of players will want to prove themselves, but Copenhagen will also want to bow out of this competition in style.

It will probably not be enough for FC Copenhagen to win, because even if the Danes score their first goal in the competition, it is very unlikely that the hosts will be able to keep the score level.
