The billionaire club against the clear underdog

The richest club in the world hosts promoted AFC Bournemouth next Saturday. Despite the conditions being so different, both teams are level on points. While the Magpies want to attack the international places this season, for the Cherries it is clearly about staying in the league. Comparing the two goals, Newcastle’s start to the season has been worse in terms of achieving them, at least so far. The role of the favourites is nevertheless clearly distributed in this pairing. In the match between Newcastle and Bournemouth, the bookmakers are clearly predicting a home win.

AFC Bournemouth have a lot to make up for against Newcastle. The Cherries’ last win came in November 2017, almost five years ago. However, the billionaire club from Newcastle is now even harder to beat, as their financial resources are in a completely different league. The promoted team is far from being able to keep up and is probably the weakest team in the league in terms of squad. In the match between Newcastle and Bournemouth, the odds on an away win are therefore also immensely high.

In this clash, most eyes will be on Allan Saint-Maximin. The Newcastle United winger has had a great season so far, scoring one goal and providing two assists. He is quick as an arrow, extremely good on the ball and also has a very good overview. His quality is no secret, as big clubs have been interested in the Frenchman for years. The fact that he is still playing for Newcastle United is nothing short of a miracle. In the match between Newcastle and Bournemouth, betting on a goal from the extroverted star is certainly interesting. Especially as the Cherries’ defence is rather weak.

Newcastle – Statistics & current form

The Magpies are in eleventh place in the Premier League. They picked up seven points in their six games and lost only one. The defeat was particularly bitter, as they only conceded the 1:2 goal in the 98th minute. They cannot be really satisfied with the season so far, but on the other hand they must not be too self-critical. They took one point each from Manchester City, Wolverhampton and Brighton and that is not a matter of course. Against Bournemouth, however, a win is a must, especially if they want to achieve their goals. The match between Newcastle and Bournemouth is therefore an obvious bet with a tendency towards the Magpies.

Still unbeaten in their own stadium

Newcastle United have not lost a single home game this season. They won against Nottingham Forrest and took a point each from Manchester City and Crystal Palace. Newacastle scored five goals and conceded only three. Especially the three goals against Manchester City the hosts very remarkable and in view of the game against Bournemouth a good omen. Furthermore, they managed to win two games to nil and only conceded one or more goals against the reigning English champions. The Magpies have not lost in thirteen games at St. James’ Park and are therefore clear favourites, and rightly so.

The good defence of Newcastle United

Newcastle United’s defence is not easy to break down. They have already played three times to zero and only conceded more than one goal against Manchester City. But they also showed against the reigning champions and the reigning runners-up from Liverpool that they are getting closer and closer to the top teams. Nevertheless, there is a long way to go, because the home side has problems to take advantage of their chances in the offensive. The Magpies have to work on their effectiveness if they really want to play for the international places.

Pope – Trippier – Schär – Botman – Targett – Joelinton – Longstaff – Willock – Almiron – Isak – Fraser

Bournemouth – Statistics & current form

AFC Bournemouth are just two places behind Newcastle United. They find themselves in 13th place in the Premier League and could pick up seven points just like their upcoming opponents. Their programme so far has been very difficult, as they had to face the best teams in the league, Manchester City, Arsenal FC and Liverpool FC. Nevertheless, their start to the season was quite solid overall, as they picked up their points from the remaining three games. The defeats were predictable and should therefore not be overrated. In the match between Newcastle and Bournemouth, the odds are therefore a little too far apart, because the Cherries are not without a chance.

The worst defence in the entire Premier League

The Cherries have already conceded 18 goals and only Leicester City and Nottingham Forrest are in a similar range. They are currently averaging exactly three goals conceded per game. If they concede two or three goals again against Newcastle, they would join the ranks of the weakest defensive teams in Premier League history in the first seven matchdays. Somewhat counter-intuitively, therefore, is the fact that they have kept two of their six games nil. In terms of play, the Cherries have not been on a par with their opponents in any of their games so far, which is why they are also the clear underdogs against Newcastle.

The Cherries’ so far quite harmless offense

Bournemouth have only scored five goals this season. Only Nottingham Forrest, West Ham United, Everton FC and Wolverhampton Wanderers scored fewer goals. No team has created fewer chances than the Cherries and yet they have an attacking rating that is outstanding. 14.7% of their shots on goal also went into the net and in this category they are third in the Premier League. With Newcastle allowing the second-most shots on goal, there is therefore a good chance for AFC to score here too.

Predicted line-up of Bournemouth:
Neto – Smith – Mepham – Kelly – Zemura – Lerma – Cook – Christie – Billing – Tavernier – Solanke

Last matches played by Bournemouth:

03/09/2022 – Nottingham Forest 2 – 3 Bournemouth

Newcastle – Bournemouth Direct Comparison / H2H Record

The direct comparison clearly goes to Newcastle United. The Magpies are unbeaten in five games against the Cherries. In the Premier League, Bournemouth have only won two of their last eight matches. The last win, however, was almost five years ago. The Cherries have scored in seven of the eight encounters, as have the hosts. In the match between Newcastle and Bournemouth, the prediction on goals from both teams is therefore also very interesting. However, the Cherries’ attacking harmlessness is too much, as no team shot as few at the opponent’s goal as the promoted team and by a clear margin.

Newcastle – Bournemouth Tip

In the match between Newcastle and Bournemouth, the prediction for a home win with over 1.5 goals is very obvious. Like the bookmakers, we also see Newcastle United clearly ahead. They have more individual quality, are in better form and have a great home series behind them. Bournemouth, on the other hand, have enormous problems defensively and allow a lot of big chances in every game. Therefore, it is very unlikely that the promoted team will remain without conceding a goal. At the latest, they will have to become active themselves, because they certainly want to continue their slight upward trend. After all, the Cherries picked up four points from their last two games. The dead-blacks were also able to solve their offensive barrier for the time being with three goals against Nottingham.

It is not unlikely that some goals will be scored in this match. The direct comparison points to a high-scoring game and especially the defensive weakness of AFC only reinforces this. In the past five direct encounters, there have always been more than two goals. Therefore, betting on more than two goals in the match between Newcastle and Bournemouth is also very interesting. Especially because we think Newcastle will score at least two goals, because they have an advantage in tempo. Players like Saint-Maximin, Fraser and also Isak will at least create some chances against the rather slow defence.
