Will Harry Kane make his mark in the history books?

Star Italian coach Antonio Conte caused the “handshake war” last weekend when he failed to look Thomas Tuchel in the eye during the obligatory handshake and arguably verbally attacked him several times beforehand. A week the Spurs would like to fabricate sporting headlines again for the opening of the third matchday. Tottenham and Wolverhampton face each other at the new White Hart Lane early on Saturday afternoon.

A game in which the bookies see the hosts as heavy favourites. Ahead of the game, betting odds of just 1.40 are being offered between Tottenham and Wolverhampton for the home win prediction. Spurs have their sights set on a top-four finish again this season and, with four points from two games, can be quite happy with their start to the season. This is not the case for the visitors, as Wolves have collected just one point.

All season long, the Portugal connection around Ruben Neves & Co could miss out on a tenth successive Premier League win on Saturday. Should the surprise succeed, more than eight times the stakes await. The match kicks off at 13:30 on Saturday.

Tottenham – Statistics & current form

Antonio Conte is a coach who is certainly not considered “everybody’s darling”, however, the Italian’s success cannot be denied. His record at Tottenham is also absolutely positive after he took the reins in November 2021. After 38 competitive games, he has an average of 1.89 points per game and led Spurs to fourth place in the season finale, thus securing their return to the UEFA Champions League.

In his first full season with Spurs, the goals have been set even higher and the squad has been strengthened with the signings of PL-proven players Richarlison (Everton) and Yves Bissouma (Brighton). In addition, veterans such as Ivan Perisic and Clement Lenglet also represent a reinforcement.

Tottenham can break the 1,000 mark

In each of their first two games, Conte’s eleven fell behind. While against Ralph Hasenhüttl’s Saints they still managed an emphatic comeback victory, Tottenham achieved a 2-2 draw against Chelsea in the derby. With Harry Kane, Spurs have one of the best strikers in the world in their own ranks, but the first two PL games show another great strength. The six goals scored each go to a different account. Ex-Germany legionnaire Heung-Min Son is even the top scorer in the 2022 calendar year with 15 PL goals, although the South Korean has never scored against Wolves.

Should Tottenham score on Saturday afternoon, it would be Spurs’ 1,000th home goal in the Premier League. A mark only Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have previously reached. And if Harry Kane were to score that goal, he too would go down in the history books. He has scored 184 PL goals for Tottenham so far, only Kun Aguero has scored as many goals for one club (Manchester City) in PL history. His next goal makes him the sole record holder. Between Tottenham and Wolverhampton, odds of around 1.90 are offered on a Kane goal.

Wolverhampton – Statistics & current form

51 Points in the last season were a plus of six points compared to the previous year, but the Wolves were not really satisfied. Tenth place in the table and a negative goal difference meant a place in no-man’s land in the table for the team from the industrial city, as the team fell short of expectations, especially in the season’s finish, ending the season with seven games without a win (five defeats, two draws).

Without a win for nine PL games in a season

The negative run was not shaken off at the turn of the season and they suffered their next setback with a 2-1 defeat to Leeds United to open the season. The goalless draw against promoted Fulham on matchday two was also a bitter disappointment. Wolves have now waited nine league games for a full success. Even though Spurs have been something of a favourite opponent in the recent past, there are currently no signs between Tottenham and Wolverhampton that justify a prediction on the visitors.

Especially since head coach Bruno Lage will still have to do without success guarantee Raul Jimenez. The Mexican is out due to a knee injury. The importance of his person can be well illustrated by the following statistics. With him in the starting eleven, Wolves won 41 per cent of their matches (46/113), without him the win rate drops to 29 per cent (12/41). With Nelson Semedo, Adama Traore and Joao Moutinho, three other well-known players are out injured. New signing Matheus Nunes (Sporting Lisbon) could possibly make his debut.

Tottenham – Wolverhampton Direct Comparison / H2H Record

For quite a few years it was “nothing but expenses” for the Wolves when travelling to Tottenham Hotspurs. Only four wins in 38 league away games (27 defeats), but the tide has turned recently and Tottenham are gradually becoming a favourite opponent for Wolverhampton’s Portugal connection. Wolves have won four of their last seven guest appearances at Spurs.

Tottenham – Wolverhampton Tip

Wolverhampton Wanderers can be an extremely unpleasant opponent as the quality in Bruno Lage’s side cannot be denied. However, the games are rarely pretty to watch due to the extremely defensive alignment and offensive actions can be counted on one hand. Although Tottenham are basically a guarantor for many goals and are in very strong form, it is therefore advisable to bet on few goals for Tottenham against Wolverhampton.

Betting on the under 2.5 as well as betting that both teams will not score has a certain appeal. When betting on the under 2.5, odds of well over 2.00 are even offered, at which the value cannot be denied. Accordingly, a bet of five units is recommended for the prediction “Under 2.5” between Tottenham and Wolverhampton.
