Does FCA manage an important liberation?
History was made last Sunday at the Sportpark Ronhof. SpVgg Greuther Fürth won their first home game in the Bundesliga at an incredible 24th attempt. It was also the Mittelfranken’s first three points in the entire 2021/22 season. The gap to the relegation place, currently held by FC Augsburg, is nevertheless still 13 points.
If the cloverleaf wants to achieve the impossible and secure its place in the league with an exceptional second half of the season, it now urgently needs another home win. However, in the run-up to the match between Fürth and Augsburg, the odds are swinging in the direction of the visitors from the Fuggerstadt.
By the way, FC Augsburg also ended a dry spell at the weekend. The Bavarian Swabians celebrated a 2-0 away win at 1. FC Köln and thus got their first three points away from home in the 2021/22 season at the eighth attempt. Overall, FCA have lost only one of their last five league games.
Accordingly, tip 2 is playable for Fürth against Augsburg, which could give the Fuggerstädter a lot of breathing space in the bottom of the table and even end the first half of the season in a non-relegation spot.
Fürth – Statistics & current form
The joy of surprisingly promoted SpVgg Greuther Fürth after their 1-0 home win over 1. FC Union Berlin last Sunday did not last long. Just three days later, the Central Franconians were brought back down to earth with a 3-0 defeat at Borussia Dortmund.
The traditional club, which won the German championship three times in 1914, 1926 and 1929, is clearly heading for relegation.
13 points behind the relegation place
The cloverleaf is already 13 points behind the relegation place, which is currently held by FC Augsburg. However, with a three-point win at home, new hope could arise just in time for the end of the first half of the season. Last season, for example, 1. FSV Mainz 05 showed what is possible with a good run in the second half of the season.
However, it will take a real 180-degree turnaround for the Central Franconians, who have been conspicuous for their deficits in all relevant areas in the majority of their performances so far. The fact that rotation might be necessary at the end of the English week in a team that is not too well-stocked in terms of width does not make the task any easier.
By far the worst defence in the Bundesliga
Once again, the Spielvereinigung, who have won just one of their previous 24 home games in the Bundesliga, are underdogs at their own stadium.
In the end, it’s the desolate defence that speaks against the Green-Whites, who have already conceded 49 goals in 16 league games and have also had to do without their regular keeper Marius Funk for two games, which exacerbates the personnel situation.
Projected line-up of Fürth:

Augsburg – Statistics & current form
Fc Augsburg are currently playing in their eleventh year in the Bundesliga and, as in recent years, are once again stuck in the relegation battle. The Fuggerstädter were initially only able to win one of their first nine league games and thus lost the connection early in the season.
In the last few weeks, things have gone much better for FCA. However, the Bavarian Swabians have not yet freed themselves from the bottom of the table. With 17 points from the first 16 league games, Markus Weinzierl’s team is in the relegation zone.
Elf of 21 possible points from the last seven games
At least, though, the recent haul has been right.
The Fuggerstädter have won a total of 21 games – including the unexpected 2-1 home win against FC Bayern, which gave them renewed self-confidence.
Eleven of the 17 points were thus taken from the last seven games. A yield of 1.5 points per game, with which keeping the team out of the relegation zone should not be an issue in the end. It is all the more important, however, that the Bavarian Swabians follow up in the basement duel against the counted cloverleaf and record only their fifth victory in league play.
Only five goals scored away from home
When it comes to Fürth against Augsburg, betting on an away win for the Fuggerstädter is certainly under a good star, after the 2-0 win in Cologne finally ended the dry spell away from home. In conjunction with three draws, FCA have already picked up six points away from home.
However, the team needs to improve its goal-scoring on foreign soil. Markus Weinzierl’s team, which lacks an outstanding goal scorer anyway, has only scored five goals away from home. Only Bielefeld (4) have been even tamer in away games so far.
Predicted line-up of Augsburg:

Fürth – Augsburg Direct comparison / H2H balance
Head to head: 18 – 10 – 18
The two teams have faced each other a total of 46 times so far and with 18 wins each, the direct comparison is completely even. Most recently, however, the duel was clearly in the hands of the Fuggerstädter, who are unbeaten in seven competitive matches against the cloverleaf (three wins, four draws).
Fürth – Augsburg tip
Of course, our prediction for Fürth against Augsburg is influenced by the negative values of the Central Franconians, who continue to head unchecked towards direct relegation with just four points from 16 league games. Admittedly, the cloverleaf won a home game for the first time in the Bundesliga at the weekend in its 24th attempt and cautiously bounced back with the first three points of the 2021/22 season. However, FCA have also been in good form of late.
In addition, the Fuggerstädter have recently been able to get a grip on their away weaknesses with a 2-0 win in Cologne. With a defensively very susceptible Mittelfranken, the chances are very good to build on the momentum and go one better at the end of the year.
Accordingly, we recommend tip 2, for which betting odds of 2.45 are available for Fürth against Augsburg.
