Offensive spectacle in Frankfurt?
Just like the SGE, the Werkself has also secured group victory in the Europa League. With the last international match of the calendar year still on the agenda, the match between Frankfurt and Leverkusen will now take place on Sunday evening as part of the Bundesliga. If the bookmakers have their way, Eintracht is only the outsider against the Werkself despite the home advantage.
However, Leverkusen’s role as favourites is by no means surprising. Last week, after all, Bayer rolled over Greuther Fürth and celebrated their highest Bundesliga win since the record-breaking victory over Ulm (9:1) almost 21 years ago with an emphatic 7:1 victory. If Gerardo Seoane’s team takes the momentum with them to Frankfurt, an offensive spectacle at the SGE is already pre-programmed.
Betting fans who even want to bet on the Werkself in Frankfurt vs. Leverkusen can currently get quotes of up to 2.20 at the best betting providers if they are successful. The last time the two clubs met in Frankfurt, Bayer Leverkusen suffered a narrow defeat.
The eagle-bearers from Frankfurt have won every home match against Leverkusen since November 2017. The SGE will therefore approach Sunday’s match with a broad chest, especially as Eintracht have only lost one home match in this season’s competition.
Frankfurt – Statistics & current form
The Eintracht ignited late this season and is therefore still in the mid-table of the Bundesliga. Nevertheless, there are still realistic chances of damage limitation, especially as the international starting places are within reach. Before the recent defeat in Sinsheim, the SGE remained unbeaten in six matches in a row.
That away defeat at TSG Hoffenheim was compensated for by Eintracht winning their group in the Europa League during the week. Although the Frankfurt side only picked up a point at Fenerbahce Istanbul, it was ultimately enough to defend their group lead against their pursuers from Piraeus.
In the Bundesliga, the race to catch up continues. The Hessians face a difficult hurdle at home against Bayer Leverkusen. Sunday’s opponents are in excellent form and are among the three strongest teams in the league. Nevertheless, with their recent home record, the SGE will hardly be hiding against the Werkself.
Will the record at the Waldstadion be extended?
At home, the SGE has lost only one of a total of 20 competitive games at the Waldstadion this calendar year. Since the defeat against Hertha BSC on matchday eight of the current Bundesliga season, Eintracht have been without a home defeat four times in a row. Among others, the SGE defied Leipzig, and there was also a well-deserved home win against Union Berlin.
The home record against Bayer is also encouraging: Since November 2017, when the SGE last conceded a home defeat against the Werkself, there have been three home victories in a row against Leverkusen. Last season, Eintracht won 2-1 against the visitors from Leverkusen despite trailing at one stage.
It is quite possible that the record against Sunday’s opponents will be extended this time as well. The opening phase against Bayer will be particularly decisive, as the Werkself scored in the first half: The Werkself has already scored ten goals in the first 15 minutes this season.

Leverkusen – Statistics & current form
In contrast to Frankfurt, who had to fight for the group win in the Europa League until the last matchday, Bayer Leverkusen have already secured their place in the last 16 before the last matchday of the EL group stage. For the Werkself, the most recent match in Budapest was therefore of no particular significance.
Head coach Gerardo Seoane therefore did without many key players. Among others, Patrik Schick was given a time-out. The Werkself attacking star scored four goals against Greuther Fürth last week and was therefore given enough time to recover before the Bundesliga clash with the SGE.
Compared to the starting eleven that was last in action in the European Cup, some changes are therefore to be expected for Leverkusen. Due to injury, Bakker and Baumgartlinger will have to rest for Bayer on Sunday evening. However, the recovered Fosu-Mensah is back in the squad.
Are Bayern flexing their offensive muscles again?
Since the defeat against VfL Wolfsburg, Bayer Leverkusen have not lost any of their last four games in the German top flight. Most recently, the Werkself even had three wins in a row, in which Seoane’s team flexed its offensive muscles. After all, Bayer Leverkusen scored a total of eleven goals against their league rivals.
Leverkusen scored seven of the eleven goals against Greuther Fürth last week. For the Werkself, it was the highest Bundesliga win since the Kantersieg (9:1). If Seoano & Co. take the momentum with them to Frankfurt, it is obvious that a bet on a high-scoring encounter in Frankfurt against Leverkusen will come true.
In any case, the two clubs have recently cracked the three-goal mark eight times in a row. The last time there was a match between Frankfurt and Leverkusen in November 2017, it paid off to predict a low-scoring encounter (0:1).
Predicted Leverkusen line-up:
Hradecky – Frimpong, Tah, Tapsoba, Hincapie – Andrich, Demirbay – Diaby, Wirtz, Adli – Schick

Frankfurt – Leverkusen Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
This is the 73rd time the two clubs have met in the Bundesliga. So far, Bayer Leverkusen leads the direct comparison against the SGE with a record of 33-13-26. On average, 3.17 goals per game have been scored in Bundesliga encounters between Eintracht and the Werkself.
Since November 2017, the team with the home advantage has always won in competitive matches between the two clubs. This was also the case last season, where the SGE celebrated a 2:1 at the Waldstadion. Leverkusen, on the other hand, not only prevailed 3:1 at home in the Bundesliga, but also celebrated a home victory (4:1) against Eintracht in the DFB-Pokal.
Frankfurt – Leverkusen Tip
In recent weeks, Frankfurt have partially compensated for their poor start to the season and have at least extended their lead over the Bundesliga’s relegation places. In order to continue the race to catch up with the international starting places, the last games in the Bundesliga’s first half of the season are still of great importance.
Currently, five points separate the Hessen from the sixth and thus last starting place for international competition. Bayer Leverkusen, on the other hand, have played a promising first half of the season so far and are now in third place in the Bundesliga. Still with rotation in Budapest during the week, Bayer will tackle the away match at the Waldstadion on Sunday evening with their best line-up.
The Werkself has already warmed up ahead of Sunday’s clash in Frankfurt. Last week, head coach Seoane’s team already rolled over Fürth and celebrated an impressive landslide victory in which the Leverkusen side scored a total of seven goals. Frankfurt, on the other hand, lost the battle with TSG Hoffenheim.
Because both attacking lines left a positive impression last week, we expect a goal-filled encounter on Sunday as well. This assessment is supported by the recent record, especially as the three-goal mark has been broken eight times in a row in the competitive matches between Eintracht and Bayer.
For Frankfurt against Leverkusen, our betting odds of 1.58 are on over 2.5 goals in the match. We are betting on a total of seven out of ten possible units.
