Is this the start of a Dolphins win streak?
On Sunday, the bottom two teams in the AFC East meet in the New York Jets vs Miami Dolphins game. But who will be able to win the basement duel and how do the bookmakers see the different possibilities?
With seven losses each, the current season is not exactly rosy for both teams. But the Miami Dolphins are currently on a high after two consecutive victories. However, they have only managed a single away win so far, an obstacle to overcome this week.
Both teams are averaging less than 18 points per game. The fact that both starting quarterbacks may not be able to participate due to injury is another indication of a low scoring game.
While both teams are allowing a relatively large amount of points themselves, we don’t believe we will see many scores in this matchup.
New York Jets – Statistics & current form
The Jets from New York were one of the worst teams in the entire National Football League last season. Only the Jacksonville Jaguars lost once more than the Jets, so with an overall standing of fourteen losses to two wins, they managed to win as many times as they have so far this season.
Fortunately for the New Yorkers, however, they still have a few game days ahead of them to win more matches. In the case of Jets vs. Dolphins, however, our prediction is that they will not succeed. So, in all likelihood, the Jets will linger in last place in the AFC East.
Quarterback Differences in New York
The New York Jets game against Miami Dolphins is missing the great hope of the current season at the quarterback position. Zach Wilson, rookie and second overall pick in last year’s draft will not be participating in the matchup with the Dolphins, New York announced last Thursday.
Instead, veteran Joe Flacco will make his first start of the season. It was a decision by Head Coach Saleh that surprised some fans, as the secondary quarterback Mike had to contend with the league’s strongest defence last week against the Bills.
So far, the Jets’ offensive line has also allowed 25 sacks, so they regularly fail to protect their quarterback. The Jets’ defence doesn’t seem to be at its best either, allowing almost eight and a half yards per attempt in their last game.
Key Players:
QB: Joe Flacco
RB: Michael Carter
WR: Corey Davis
WR: Jamison Crowder
LB: C.J. Mosley
Miami Dolphins – Statistics & current form
The team from Miami, on the other hand, looks much more stable and is positioned one place above the New Yorkers. They will probably be able to maintain this position, and our prediction for the Jets versus Dolphins game is a win for the away team.
If Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is not out due to a finger injury, which also limited his participation in practice on Wednesday, he would be in a good position to bring about the Dolphins’ third win in a row.
Can the defense step up like that again?
Last week, against all expectations, the Dolphins surprisingly won against the Baltimore Ravens, who were considered house favourites on the previous matchday. The Dolphins’ defence played a big part in that win, limiting QB Lamar Jackson to under 240 passing yards.
The Miami defence also recovered the ball for the fourth time in two games, such a turnover literally winning them the game against the Ravens at the end of the match, as the Baltimore team’s final drive was successfully stopped.
Miami’s pass rush is also impressive, with 27 quarterback sacks for a loss of 190 yards so far this season. So if the defence can build up enough pressure, in the Jets vs. Dolphins game our prediction is that the Jets won’t even get into range often enough to score successfully, which is why few total points will fall.
Key Players:
QB: Tua Tagovailoa (if he plays)
RB: Myles Gaskin
WR: Jaylen Waddle
DE: Emmanuel Ogbah
NT: Raekwon Davis
New York Jets – Miami Dolphins Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
Because both teams are based in the same division, namely the AFC East, they also play each other more often. However, of the last five games, the Jets managed only one win, by a single point difference (22-21) in December 2019.
However, in the past two meetings from October and November of 2020, the Dolphins always emerged as clear winners with final scores of 24-0 and 20-3. In the upcoming Jets-Dolphins clash, our bet is that this trend will continue.
New York Jets – Miami Dolphins Tip
If the Dolphins can win the upcoming encounter, they still have a realistic chance to qualify for the play offs. In the Jets vs. Dolphins game, the odds are also on the side of the team from Florida, as can be seen in our tip.
Since we expect a win for the team from Miami, handicap bets also make sense in this match. For example, betting on a handicap of -3 for the away team in the match New York Jets – Miami Dolphins can yield odds of up to 1.87.
