Will the Red Devils get back on track in London?
Last Sunday, Manchester United suffered an absolute nightmare at home to the Theatre of Dreams. The Red Devils went down 0:5 to their arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford, of all places. Once again, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces elimination and needs victory away at Tottenham Hotspur to stay in charge.
However, things are not going well for Spurs either. Under new coach Nuno Espírito Santo, four of the first nine league games were lost. Accordingly, in the run-up to the encounter between Tottenham and Manchester United, the odds are swinging in the direction of the visitors, who have lost just one of their last 30 league games away from home.
In addition, the Red Devils certainly have a knack for Spurs. Tottenham have not lost more often against any other club in the Premier League than against the English record champions, against whom they have not won three home games in a row (one draw, two defeats).
Accordingly, in our eyes, Tottenham vs Manchester United tip 2 is good to play, which could also be hedged with a free bet.
Tottenham – Statistics & current form
Tottenham Hotspur continue to do a good job, but without rewarding themselves with titles. Neither in the 2016/17 season, when only four of the 38 league games were lost and yet in the end only the vice-championship was on the books, nor in 2020 in the Champions League final there was a trophy.
It is all the more surprising that Spurs are able to keep their difference players such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Heung-min Son or even Hugo Lloris year after year, all of whom are courted by other clubs practically every transfer period.
Four of the first nine league games have been lost
In the meantime, however, there is no peace on the coaching bench. After the departure of Mauricio Pochettino, José Mourinho’s generally hapless tenure came to an early end before interim coach Ryan Mason merely led Spurs to the Conference League this summer.
With Nuno Espírito Santo, Wolves’ long-time success coach was expected to bring success back to London. However, the four defeats from the first nine league games under the Portuguese are the most lost games at the start of a tenure since Swiss Christian Gross, under whom five of the first ten league games were lost in 1997/98. A negative record that could now even be set.
First nine goals from first nine league games
Though it is encouraging that the remaining four league games under Santo have been won, while Spurs also progressed to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup with a 1-0 win at Burnley on Wednesday night.
Judging by the fact that only nine goals have been scored in nine league games, with superstar Harry Kane in particular registering just one goal in eight appearances, the Lilywhites will nevertheless go into the game at home as underdogs.
Predicted Tottenham line-up:
Lloris – Reguilón – Dier – Romero – Royal – Skipp – Höjbjerg – Son – Ndombélé – Moura – Kane

Manchester United – Statistics & current form
Manchester United remain the country’s record champions, having won 20 league titles. However, the Red Devils have not been at the top since the 2012/13 season. Most recently, they had to settle for the runners-up spot once again this summer before losing the Europa League final in an unfortunate 10:11 penalty shootout.
Accordingly, Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer’s men had set their sights high for the new season, which not only saw the signing of dream players Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, but even the return of the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford.
Only one point out of a possible twelve from the last four league games
All the more painful is the current look at the table, in which the Red Devils are only in seventh place after only four wins from the first nine league games. Not only did United pick up only one of twelve possible points from the last four league games. Most recently, they suffered two resounding defeats in a row.
A 4-2 defeat at Leicester City snapped a run of 29 consecutive league away games without defeat, before the most recent 5-0 defeat at home to arch-rivals Liverpool marked the nadir. Accordingly, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces an endgame once again in his tenure.
Only one defeat in last 30 Premier League away games
The Norwegian, who took up his post as head coach in March 2019, has already bounced back in many a final in the last two-and-a-half years, however, which is why betting on the Red Devils to turn the tide at Tottenham against Manchester United is absolutely justified.
After all, there has only been one defeat in the last 30 league away games, while Spurs have also picked up seven points out of a possible nine in their last three away games.
Predicted Manchester United line-up:
De Gea – Shaw – Maguire – Lindelöf – Wan-Bissaka – Fred – McTominay – Rashford – Fernandes – Greenwood – Ronaldo

Tottenham – Manchester United Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
Head to head: 53 – 49 – 93
There have been a total of 195 meetings between the two teams so far and with 93 wins, just under half of all duels have gone to the Red Devils, who have also not lost three times in a row away at Spurs recently (two wins, one draw).
Tottenham – Manchester United Tip
When it comes to Tottenham vs Manchester United, the prediction has to take into account the fact that both teams have suffered heavy defeats recently. Spurs lost another London derby at West Ham (0:1) and the Red Devils went down at home to arch-rivals Liverpool (0:5). Accordingly, not only Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but also Nuno Espírito Santo are on the dole.
We see the Red Devils as having the advantage. Not only have the English record champions won many a match in the Solskjaer era that all the pundits agreed would be the last under the Norwegian in the event of defeat, but the numbers are also in favour of the visitors, who have lost only one of their last 30 league away games.
