Will Bayern prevail in the German showdown?
In the Euroleague, the elite league of European basketball, the German showdown between Alba Berlin and FC Bayern München will take place for the first time on the seventh matchday. Both clubs have won two of their six group games so far. The Munich team has been building up self-confidence in the run-up to the German basketball clash with two victories in a row.
Among them was the recent success over Olimpia Milano, where Bayern delivered a particularly strong performance in the second half. In Berlin, the Munich team now wants to go one better and is aiming for its third win in a row in the Euroleague. In case of success, odds of 1.70 are paid out for a bet on the visitors in Alba Berlin vs. Bayern.
The last time the two clubs met was in the BBL play-offs last season. Back then, Alba Berlin beat the Munich team 3:1 in the best-of-five final. Bayern now has the chance for revenge in the Euroleague. The group match between the two top German clubs will take place on Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin.
Alba Berlin – Statistics & current form
Alba Berlin has already celebrated two victories in the group phase of this year’s Euroleague. The successes on the international stage were certainly commendable. After all, Alba Berlin not only beat Fenerbahce, a five-time Final Four participant in the Euroleague, but also celebrated an away coup at the home-strong Red Star Belgrade.
At the moment, however, the Berliners are difficult to classify. They certainly have enough potential to keep up with the elite on the international stage. However, Alba Berlin has lacked the necessary consistency recently. During the week, they lost to Olympiakos Piraeus, where the capital club only got on track in the last quarter.
Because Olympiakos was able to build up a twelve-point cushion before the last quarter, Alba Berlin’s comeback failed. In the end, it was a narrow 83:87 defeat for the Berliners. The 2021 BBL champions now have their next Euroleague group game on the agenda against Bayern.
Will the next win against the FCB?
Last season, Alba Berlin successfully won against Bayern in the final of the BBL playoffs. The team around head coach Israel González lost only one match in the best-of-five. Because the Berliners were able to win two games in a row against FCB, Alba is also approaching the upcoming hurdle in the Euroleague with a broad chest.
In six group games, Alba Berlin has scored an average of 75.33 points so far. In two of the last four games on the international stage, the Berliners even broke the 80-point mark. It would therefore not be far-fetched to predict that Alba Berlin vs. Bayern will be a high-scoring encounter.
The performance of forward Oscar da Silva will be decisive. After all, the 23-year-old has already scored 77 points in five EL appearances in the Alba jersey – 17 of them in the last group game against Olympiakos Piraeus, mind you. Head coach González will still have to do without the two injured players Ben Lammers and Markus Eriksson for the home match against FCB.
Predicted Starting-Five of Alba Berlin:
Lo – Olinde – Sikma – Smith – Thiemann
Bayern – Statistics & current form
The basketball players from FC Bayern have partially compensated for their false start in the 2021/22 Euroleague with two wins in a row. After the return of some key players, the Munich team picked up speed recently. Neither Zalgiris Kaunas nor Olimpia Milano, at that time still without defeat, could stop the FCB.
In Berlin, they want to continue their current winning streak and climb up the table. Because only a fraction of the group matches have been played before the play-offs, it is not yet clear whether Bayern will reach the quarter-finals of this top-class competition again this season.
Last season, the FCB became the first German team to reach the play-offs, where the Munich team was defeated in the best-of-five series by Olimpia Milano – the opponent the Bavarians defeated in the Euroleague a few days ago. Now the FCB is eager for revenge against Alba Berlin as well.
Can the FCB still be stopped?
Cross-competition, head coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team has recently celebrated four wins in a row. In the last two competitive matches in particular, the FCB presented itself in top form. After an away win in Frankfurt, where Bayern won by a margin of 28 points, Trinchieri’s squad also handed Milan’s in-form side a defeat.
If the recent performance is continued, it is obvious that a bet on Alba Berlin vs. Bayern will also pay off with good odds on the Munich team. Vladimir Lucic, with 20 points the best scorer in the last group game, showed against Olimpia Milano how important his return is for the team.
As in the group game against Zalgiris Kaunas, where Lucic scored a total of 17 points, the Serbian national player was also a success factor against Olimpia Milano. It’s quite possible that Lucic will also lead Bayern to an away win in Berlin.
Predicted Starting-Five of Bayern:
Hilliard – Lucic – Rubit – Schilling – Walden
Alba Berlin – Bayern Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
Alba Berlin and Bayern meet for the 60th time. So far, the FCB has won a total of 35 times against the Berliners. Alba, on the other hand, has celebrated a total of 24 victories against the Munich team, and there has also been a single draw between the two clubs. In the last four matches between the two clubs, there have been three wins for Alba and only one win for Bayern.
Last season, Bayern beat Alba Berlin in the cup final, but the capital club took revenge in the best-of-five series in the BBL playoffs and were crowned champions in the German top flight.
Alba Berlin – Bayern Tip
After the return of key players like Lucic, the basketball players from FC Bayern München have found their way back to success. Not only on the national level but also on the international stage, the Munich team has been convincing lately. During the week, they even won against Olimpia Milano, one of the hottest candidates for the title in this year’s Euroleague.
The Munich team now wants to continue this winning streak against Berlin. In contrast to the FCB, Alba suffered a defeat during the week and thus lost the momentum after the away win against Red Star Belgrade. Nevertheless, the capital’s basketball team will go into the home game against Bayern with a broad chest.
Last season, Alba was able to successfully beat Bayern in the best-of-five series in the BBL play-off final. Nevertheless, we think the Munich team is stronger in its current form. The home win over Olimpia Milano was a real motivational boost for head coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team.
With a bet of six units, we therefore dare to bet on the visitors at good odds on Alba Berlin vs. Bayern
