The Italian player reveals some behind-the-scenes information about Jannik and a piece of advice he gave her: “When he tells you something, you can’t help but do it.”

Could there be any better tennis advice than that given by the world No. 1? Definitely not, as Jasmine Paolini knows well. Last November, the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup Final 8 were held in Malaga, with Italy winning both events. Jannik Sinner and Paolini led the two national teams. And, as recently revealed, the current world No. 2 gave advice to Renzo Furlan, Paolini’s coach at the time, during a training session.

“My former coach, Renzo Furlan, was talking to Jannik, and I was surprised because he said I wasn’t doing something on the court,” Paolini said. “I can’t say what it is because otherwise my opponents would find out too.” As always, the Italian left room for a nice touch when describing the rapprochement between the Italian No. 1s. We will never know what Sinner advised her to add or change, but there is no doubt that she applied it: “My coach came to me and said, ‘Jannik said you have to do this.’ I mean, when Jannik tells you to do something, you just have to do it. How can you say no to advice from Jannik?” Now that Paolini is eighth in the Race for her second consecutive qualification for the WTA Finals and has also won in Rome, the results are coming in thick and fast.
