Will the German punch his ticket to the quarter-finals?
At the Wimbledon Championships, Oscar Otte worked his way up to the third round. Then, however, the German had to undergo knee surgery. After the resulting break, the worm was in the wind. Only yesterday, the 29-year-old won his first singles match since Wimbledon. With the smooth 2:0 victory over Dragos Nicolae Madaras, he is now in the last 16 of the Sofia Open 2022.
In this match, Kamil Majchrzak is another basically feasible opponent for the German. The Pole played quite well in the first half of the year, but then also remained winless between June and September until the knot burst here in Bulgaria. Nevertheless, in the run-up to the match between Oscar Otte and Kamil Majchrzak, the odds are swinging in the direction of the German.
There are also 74 places between the two athletes in the ATP world rankings. Oscar Otte, who as world number 55 has even made it to eighth place in the Sofia Open seedings, is logically favoured on standing alone. If he performs as strongly as he did in his opening match, where he only gave up five games in total on the Bulgarian indoor hard courts, he could reach the quarter-finals just as quickly.
Accordingly, we find a lot of value in Oscar Otte vs. Kamil Majchrzak in the tip that a maximum of 22 games are needed to determine the winner.
Oscar Otte – Statistics & current form
Current ranking in the world rankings: 55
Position in the seedings: 8
The 29-year-old German Oscar Otte is still waiting for his very first title win on the ATP Tour. Nevertheless, the Cologne native has already caused a sensation several times. In 2021, he reached the last 16 of the US Open. This year, he reached the third round at Wimbledon.
Then, however, the aforementioned knee operation set back the player who had previously been established in the top 50 of the ATP world rankings. Because Otte initially lost every single match after the Grand Slam tournament in London – among other things, he lost all three matches at the Davis Cup in Hamburg – he dropped to 55th place in the ranking.
Ended winless streak thanks to convincing service
In Sofia, however, the Cologne player was able to end his winless streak at least once. The commanding 2-0 victory over Swedish qualifier Dragos Nicolae Madaras was Otte’s first singles win since the Wimbledon Championships and could now mark the turnaround.
The German’s serve was particularly convincing. With his first serve, Otte won 24 of 28 possible points (including ten aces). As the second serve also resulted in 56% of all points being won, the 29-year-old only allowed one break point against him, which he fended off.
18 singles wins compared to 19 losses in 2022
If the Cologne native can build on this, it could be another not too long match in the round of 16 before Pablo Carreno Busta, one of the tournament favourites, theoretically awaits in the quarter-finals. In any case, this favours our tip of less than 22.5 games for Oscar Otte against Kamil Majchrzak.
This would also cover the possibility of a quick defeat, which cannot be ruled out in view of the Cologne player’s annual record. In 2022, Otte’s record is still negative with 18 wins compared to 19 defeats…
Kamil Majchrzak – statistics & current form
Current world ranking: 119
Position in the seedings: unseeded
The 26-year-old Pole Kamil Majchrzak already attracted attention in his junior career. In 2013, he and his partner Martin Redlicki won the boys’ doubles at the US Open and were crowned Grand Slam champions.
On the ATP Tour, however, the career of the player from Petrikau got off to a slow start. It was not until 2019 that Majchrzak made it into the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. Since then, he has not recorded any notable successes.
Recently dropped out of the top 100 again
However, the Pole did appear much more frequently at the Tour’s Major tournaments in the 2022 tournament year. For the first time, Majchrzak played in all four Grand Slam tournaments in the current year, where he only managed to win a match at the Australian Open.
In addition, the 26-year-old played in the Sunshine Double, where he at least survived the first round in Indian Wells as well as in Miami. Due to a weak second half of the year, however, Majchrzak recently fell out of the top 100 of the ATP world rankings again, where he is still not established.
Only one service game surrendered in opening match
At least in Sofia, the man from Petrikau secured his place in the last 16. Against Latvian Ricardas Berankis, he only gave up one service game and was otherwise able to hold his service, which ultimately gave him the 2-0 victory (7:5 and 6:3).
In the opening match, he could only convert 41% of all returns into points even against a harmless server.
Oscar Otte – Kamil Majchrzak Direct comparison / H2H balance

Oscar Otte – Kamil Majchrzak Tip
Oscar Otte is not only 74 places higher in the ATP world rankings than his Polish challenger, but also convinced with the better performance data in the first round. If he can return his serve with such confidence on the indoor hard court of Arena Armeec, that could be half the battle against the Polish player who is not too convincing on returns.
However, the possibility of a weak day for the German, who went without a single singles win between Wimbledon and Sofia, must also be taken into account. Consequently, the bet that the match will tend to be short, with a maximum of 22 games, provides the greatest value.
