Does the ‘Djoker’s’ streak against the Pole continue?
Six-time ATP Finals winner Novak Djokovic and Hubert Hurkacz face off on the last matchday of the group stage. Read our betting tip and odds! The Serbian number one in the world rankings is naturally the heavy favorite going into the match.
What’s more, Djokovic is also highly motivated in this edition, even though he has already won the tournament half a dozen times. Another title would make him the sole record holder of the competition. So far, he still has to share this title with Roger Federer
His opponent from Poland is competing at the current ATP Finals for the first time. Stefanos Tsitsipas’ injury last Tuesday was the only reason why he was promoted to the tournament as the Greek’s replacement.
For Novak Djokovic’s match against Hubert Hurkacz, the forecast includes an outright 2:0 victory for the Serbian pro.
Novak Djokovic – statistics & current form
The “Djoker” started the tournament with a 2:1 win against Holger Rune. Once again, the Norwegian proved to be an unpleasant opponent for him. Before the win, the score between him and the Becker protégé was 2:2.
However, Novak Djokovic once again prevailed over the Scandinavian youngster in the end thanks to his enormous experience and nerves of steel. In the second match, “Nole” again suffered a very narrow defeat against Jannik Sinner.
After more than three hours and just as many rounds, he had to concede defeat to the South Tyrolean. However, Sinner is currently in a strong mood and the defeat was, as mentioned, extremely close.
The “Djoker” should therefore not dwell on it for too long. Djokovic’s performance was good despite the defeat and his opponent didn’t get more than two breaks
Djokovic still has a long way to go
In addition, the six-time winner of the ATP Finals can look back on another very successful year. He triumphed three times at the four Grand Slam tournaments and was only beaten in the Wimbledon final by Carlos Alcatraz from Spain, who was in particularly good form at the time.
Djokovic also recently won his 40th Masters title in Paris. 2023 was therefore another year that cemented his status as the greatest tennis player of all time
Will there be no tiebreak?
In view of this and his continued strong form, it is also worth considering the betting tip and odds on no tiebreak in the clash between Novak Djokovic and Hubert Hurkacz. The 24-time Grand Slam winner should not end up in a tiebreak against the Pole, as he did recently against Sinner, but should set the course for a win in the sets early on.
Hubert Hurkacz – statistics & current form
Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas was beaten in two sets by Jannik Sinner on his debut in the 2023 ATP Finals and was only able to play for a few minutes in his second match against Rune before an injury forced him to retire. As a result, Hubert Hurkacz now moves up.
The player from Wroclaw will therefore have to make a cold start. However, he has been very successful in recent weeks. Around a month ago, the right-hander won the second Masters title of his career in Shanghai.
On top of that, Hurkacz also reached the final in Basel at the end of last month. In the final of this year’s Swiss Indoors, however, he was beaten by Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime
Hardly any defeats for the Pole in recent weeks
All in all, the late stages of the season have been satisfactory from his point of view, even if he just missed out on regular participation in the ATP Finals. However, 13 wins from the last 16 matches are impressive. Furthermore, the number eleven in the world rankings is not a newcomer to the ATP Finals.
Although he did not make an appearance last year, when he was also listed as an alternate, Hurkacz already made one appearance at the “unofficial” World Championships in 2021. However, his debut back then was disappointing: all three group matches against Medvedev, Zverev and Sinner ended in defeat
Novak Djokovic – Hubert Hurkacz Direct comparison / H2H record
Novak Djokovic has hardly had any problems with Hubert Hurkacz so far. The defending ATP Finals champion has won all six matches against the Polish pro and the Serb has not dropped a set in half of these encounters
Novak Djokovic – Hubert Hurkacz betting tip
For the group match at the ATP Finals 2023 between Novak Djokovic and Hubert Hurkacz, the betting tip is for a 2:0 win for the Serb. The Serb must win the match to keep his chances of reaching the semi-finals alive. In light of this, he will be very motivated.
He has never lost to the Pole and his form is good. Although he recently suffered his first defeat since the Wimbledon final last July against Jannik Sinner, his performances over the past few months mean that this verdict is unbroken
Another argument against Hurkacz is that he is only competing as a substitute for Tsitsipas and has no chance of reaching the semi-finals himself. He also has little experience at the finals – this is only his second time at the tournament and he has a dismal record of three defeats
