Will Sinner continue his winning streak against the Muscovite?
The London All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is just one round away from getting its hoped-for dream semi-final, which could see Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner face off against French Open winner Carlos Alcaraz. It is by no means a foregone conclusion that Jannik Sinner’s bet on the Italian world number one winning against Daniil Medvedev will work out
In the direct comparison, the Russian is ultimately ahead with six wins from eleven duels, which is primarily due to the fact that the Muscovite won all of his first six encounters against the Sesto player. After initially being Jannik Sinner’s declared nemesis, the South Tyrolean has now become the Russian’s nemesis himself, having lost his last five encounters with the world number one – including the bitter Australian Open final in 2024 after leading 2-0 in sets. A series of defeats that will certainly influence the forecast for Jannik Sinner against Daniil Medvedev
Although the last five matches between the two players have all gone to Jannik Sinner, it should be noted that Daniil Medvedev has also won a total of four sets himself in these five duels. The Russian certainly knows where he has to pull the lever on Sinner. He is also fresh after benefiting from an injury to Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16, who had to throw in the towel after just 35 minutes of play in the first set.
We therefore expect this match to go the distance. Our betting recommendation is therefore that Daniil Medvedev will win at least 18 games regardless of the outcome. Even in his defeat in the 2024 Australian Open final, he ultimately won 23 games. Alternatively, at Sunmaker Germany, you can also bet on Jannik Sinner against Daniil Medvedev at odds of 1.60 that the Russian will win at least one set
Jannik Sinner – Statistics & current form
Current position in the world rankings: 1
Position in the seeding list: 1
The 22-year-old Italian Jannik Sinner continues his exceptional year at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. After entering the history books in the first Grand Slam tournament of 2024 and winning the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup in Melbourne, the South Tyrolean is now also the world number one.
This coup was made possible by a remarkable run in which he has won 42 of his 45 singles matches this year. The South Tyrolean has already won a total of four singles titles since the turn of the year. Most recently, he even secured his first tournament victory on grass in Halle, Westphalia.
The next semi-final for the man from Sesto?
The 22-year-old would now love to build on his success at Church Road, where he reached the semi-finals for the first time a year ago. If Jannik Sinner wins again against Daniil Medvedev, whom he defeated in the final of the Australian Open and in the semi-finals of the Miami Masters in 2024, he would once again be among the top four players.
However, the tournament has not gone completely smoothly for the man from Sesto so far, who was only able to secure a completely unchallenged 3-0 victory against Miomir Kecmanović (ATP 52) in the third round. In all other three matches, the world number one collapsed in the third set after leading 2:0.
Jannik Sinner repeatedly with a temporarily increasing error rate
On Sunday, Jannik Sinner was again confronted with a suddenly stronger Ben Shelton (ATP 14) in the third set. However, the young American missed a total of four set points, meaning that the man from Sesto did not have to go into the fourth set as he did against Yannick Hanfmann (ATP 110) and compatriot Matteo Berrettini (ATP 59), but was able to take the next 3:0.
However, the fact that the 22-year-old made a whopping 17 unforced errors in the third set (there were 29 in total in the round of 16), some of which he played with his usually strong forehand, also revealed that the world number one is not completely untouchable despite his dominance in 2024, a year in which he has only lost three singles matches. Daniil Medvedev is likely to have learned his lesson from this in any case
Daniil Medvedev – Statistics & current form
Current position in the world rankings: 5
Position in the seeding list: 5
The 28-year-old Russian Daniil Medvedev has already reached six Grand Slam tournament finals in his career, but has only won one of them (US Open 2021).
He almost made it to his second major at the Australian Open 2024. However, the Muscovite famously squandered a 2-0 set lead against his new nemesis Jannik Sinner before reaching the last 16 at the French Open
Daniil Medvedev with a good Wimbledon record
At the Wimbledon Championships, where Daniil Medvedev has 17 wins from 22 singles matches played, the Russian already fought his way through to the semi-finals last year. Now he wants to repeat this run. However, Jannik Sinner’s odds against Daniil Medvedev are against the world number five, who is still waiting for his first title this year.
The 32 singles victories are certainly impressive. However, a total of nine defeats in 2024 also indicate that the 28-year-old head of character, who has caused many a controversy in his colorful career, is currently no longer in the form that made him the world number one for a total of 16 weeks in 2022
Daniil Medvedev recently benefited from a retirement
In particular in rounds two and three, the Muscovite had to work hard to progress. For example, Jan-Lennard Struff (ATP 41) almost forced him into the deciding set after trailing 2-0 in a match that was ultimately postponed to the following day after several rain interruptions.
A hot fight was also on the cards against Grigor Dimitrov (ATP 10) in the round of 16, before the Bulgarian slipped, injured his knee and ultimately had to retire with a limp, although he had taken a 3:0 lead in the first set. If Medvedev, who made a whopping ten unforced errors in just 35 minutes, offers as much against Sinner, it will be close to the desired revenge for the defeat in the Australian Open final
Jannik Sinner – Daniil Medvedev Direct comparison / H2H result
Head to head: 5:6
Eleven singles matches have taken place between the two exceptional players so far and Daniil Medvedev still leads the head-to-head with six wins. Jannik Sinner – Daniil Medvedev tip
The betting odds for Jannik Sinner against Daniil Medvedev are clearly in favor of the Italian, who has won all of his last five matches against the Russian. However, the truth is that the Muscovite leads the head-to-head with six wins from eleven meetings and has won a total of four sets in his last five defeats. Daniil Medvedev therefore basically knows what measures he has to take to pose problems for the in-form world number one. It is therefore unlikely to be a one-sided affair
Jannik Sinner’s prediction against Daniil Medvedev is that the Russian will be able to keep this eagerly awaited quarter-final open for a long time. Even in his painful defeat in the Australian Open final, he took a total of 23 games against the player from Sesto. Our betting tip is therefore that the Russian will win more than 17.5 games this time as well
