Swiatek out of her league?
With the exception of Jule Niemeier, all German starters at the US Open 2022 were eliminated in the first round, so it was not necessarily expected that the German flag would still be flying over Flushing Meadows in the second week. However, the player from Dortmund is still in the running and hopes that after Wimbledon she will now also make it to the quarter-finals in New York.
However, Jule Niemeier will face the toughest task imaginable in women’s tennis on Monday. The world number one Iga Swiatek from Poland is now waiting for the 23-year-old German. The leader in the WTA rankings is currently far above all the competition and it would be a sensation if she were to miss out on making it to the quarter-finals.
However, the Pole has never reached the quarter-finals of the US Open. So she has something in common with her German opponent.
But the German is a player who can rise above herself when the tasks get tougher and she likes this spotlight, which she will now also have in New York. Of course, the starting position is in favour of the Pole, but if the Dortmund player plays her match, it might be close. All in all, we still tend to bet on a 2:0 win for the Polish player between Iga Swiatek and Jule Niemeier.
Iga Swiatek – Statistics & current form
Current world ranking: 1
Position in the seedings: 1
The tennis world has clearly moved closer together in the women’s singles, so it is remarkable how clearly the Pole holds the throne in the WTA Ranking. She is more than 4,000 points ahead of the competition. Iga Swiatek has almost twice as many points as her pursuers. This is due to an outstanding season that the 21-year-old has had so far.
Basically, there was only the one lapse in Wimbledon, when she already failed in the third round against Frenchwoman Alize Cornet and a winning streak of 37 matches in a row came to an end. In total, however, the Pole has already won six titles on the tour this year, including the French Open at Roland Garros for the second time.
Without losing a set into the last 16
Lately, however, she has not been quite so confident overseas. At both Masters tournaments in Toronto and Cincinnati, she was eliminated in the round of 16. She suffered unexpected defeats against Beatriz Haddad Maia from Brazil and Madison Keys from the United States. However, the Pole has now stabilised again at the US Open.
Iga Swiatek did not lose a single set in the first three rounds. In the first round, she had no trouble with the Italian Jasmine Paolini at 6:3 and 6:0. In the second round, the Pole also won her match against Sloane Stephens 6:3 and 6:2 in quick succession. However, the world number one got into trouble in the third round.
In the first round, the Pole won 6:3, but was already 1:4 behind in the second round against Lauren Davis. However, the best tennis player in the world at the moment is always able to come back and so she also secured the second set 6:4. We will therefore definitely take a closer look at the odds of less than 19.5 games between Iga Swiatek and Jule Niemeier.
Jule Niemeier – Statistics & current form
Current world ranking: 108
Position in the seedings: unseeded
A gap has appeared in German women’s tennis. An entire successful generation is facing the end of their careers or has already announced it. Jule Niemeier is the great hope who could follow in the footsteps of Angelique Kerber, Andrea Petkovic, Julia Görges and Co. She has already shown that she is capable of doing so.
Solidly into the last 16
However, the 23-year-old is still very fluctuating in her performances. The quarter-finals at Wimbledon were a great success. After that, however, she has not been able to confirm these good matches at Church Road so far. In the last few weeks, things have been very modest. Especially the early exit at the home tournament in Hamburg has raised doubts as to whether Jule Niemeier can already fulfil the hopes of the German tennis fans.
However, she is now showing her best side again at the US Open in Flushing Meadows. In the first three rounds, she had to face some very unpleasant opponents. Jule Niemeier eliminated Sofia Kenin, the winner of the Australian Open in 2020, in the first round. She then faced the strong Kazakh Yulia Putintseva. In both matches, however, the German did not let anything go to waste.
On Sunday night, she faced the great Chinese talent Qinwen Zheng. At times, the German had to fight and come back from behind, but after the 6:4 and 7:6, the Dortmund player also remained without losing a set in the first three rounds. Maybe that’s why we can predict that the German will win at least one set between Iga Swiatek and Jule Niemeier.
Iga Swiatek – Jule Niemeier Direct comparison / H2H-balance
Iga Swiatek is just 21 years old and dominates women’s tennis. The Pole has already made a splash on the tour at a very young age. Jule Niemeier is two years older but has mainly played Challenger tournaments. Therefore, there are no direct duels between the two opponents in the history books of the white sport.
Iga Swiatek – Jule Niemeier Tip
Iga Swiatek and Jule Niemeier have had a very similar tournament run so far at the US Open 2022. While they have had to come from behind and break in some individual rounds, neither has lost a set to this point. At least one of the two women will not be able to keep her clean slate on Monday.
The clear favourite is the world number one. The Pole has shown that she is vulnerable this year, but six tournament victories are quite a feat. In Flushing Meadows, however, she is still waiting for her big success. She has never reached the quarter-finals of the US Open.
If Jule Niemeier wants to stand a chance, she will have to rise above herself and take control of the game. Only if she manages to put pressure on the world number one for a long time, things could get tight. However, the Pole tends to be the kind of player who leaves her opponents little room to develop. That is why we have decided to play the betting odds between Iga Swiatek and Jule Niemeier on a 2:0 win for the Pole.
