Struff hopes for tired Canadian!
The last Masters of the season is coming up! In Paris, the absolute elite of tennis will gather to crown the next winner of the most important indoor tournament of the year on the Seine. World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will also be competing, looking to claim no less than his seventh title.
Already he is the record winner in Paris with half a dozen. Still no triumph in the competition celebrated Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jan-Lennard Struff. Tip and odds for their debut you can find with us.
The Canadian will be a bit tired against the German. He was still in the final in Basel on Sunday, where he beat Poland’s Hurkacz 2-0 to win his first ATP title this year!
In the match between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jan-Lennard Struff, the forecast includes at least a tiebreak.
Félix Auger-Aliassime – statistics & current form
The pro from Quebec boasts a very special record: in 2015, at just 14 years old, he already won a tournament at the Challenger level. To date, he is the youngest player with such success!
In 2020, he also became the first player from his country to reach the semifinals of the US Open, which has been held since 1881. He is also currently on a roll: as mentioned, he took the tournament title at the Swiss Indoors last weekend.
He already won the tournament last year. He had also reached at least the quarterfinals in Tokyo before that. It is clear to the Canadian that he has set his sights high for the end of the season after a disappointing opening round exit at the US Open at the end of August and subsequent first round defeats in Shanghai and Beijing.
More than two sets?
However, it can already be said that he has not come close to last year’s performance this season. In 2022 he still had four ATP victories. His performance in this year’s Grand Slam tournaments fits into this picture, in which he was eliminated in the first round at the beginning, with the exception of the Australian Open. Against this background, the forecast of more than two sets in the clash between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jan-Lennard Struff also seems worth considering.
Jan-Lennard Struff – statistics & current form
Struff had to take a quarter-year break between June and September due to an injury. Until this forced break, the season was still going very strong for him. For example, he reached a Masters final in Madrid for the first time in his career and in the meantime he was able to replace Alexander Zverev as the number 1 in German tennis.
Now the rolls are smaller again for Struff: Due to the long break from the game, he has not yet been able to build on the strong performances from the spring after his comeback. On his return to the court in Zhuhai, China, he did manage a win against Chile’s Garin, but afterwards his lack of competitive experience was noticeable.
Five of his last six appearances at the tournaments in Zhuhai, Beijing, Shanghai and Antwerp were lost. At least the last defeat in Basel has to be put into perspective. Here he lost to the Pole Hurkacz, who is currently in particularly good form and won the Masters in Shanghai this month and reached the final at the Swiss Indoors.
Next defeat for Struff?
In view of his condition, which is still capable of improvement, the tip and odds on a 2-1 win for the Canadian in the duel between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jan-Lennard Struff are also worth a recommendation.
Félix Auger-Aliassime – Jan-Lennard Struff Direct comparison / H2H record
The last time Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jan-Lennard Struff faced each other was in February 2020 at the tournament in Rotterdam. At that time, the Canadian prevailed against the Warsteiner with 2:1. Furthermore, the two professionals met only a month earlier at the ATP Cup in Australia, where again the German triumphed 2:0.
Félix Auger-Aliassime – Jan-Lennard Struff Tip
The Canadian feels particularly at home in October: last year, he put together a series of 16 victories in this month and picked up three of his five tournament wins on the ATP Tour so far! He is also currently experiencing an “Indian summer” on the court.
Last Sunday he won his first ATP title this year in Basel. For the 1st round match at the Masters in Paris between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Jan-Lennard Struff, however, the tip is now aiming for at least a tiebreaker.
The Canadian is unquestionably the favorite going into the encounter, not least because of the German’s shaky condition after his recent return from a long injury break, but the recent triumph in Switzerland took a lot of energy.
For this reason, Struff should not be completely without a chance and a close match is in the offing. Moreover, the German has meanwhile gained more match practice and should slowly but surely approach his performance maximum again.
