The number 2 is not on the initial list of players called up. The Italian captain: “The Davis Cup remains his home, I’m sure he’ll be back soon.” The Italian quintet: Berrettini, Bolelli, Cobolli, Musetti, Vavassori

Filippo Volandri has announced the first call-ups for the upcoming Davis Cup. Here is the Italian quintet: Berrettini, Bolelli, Cobolli, Musetti, Vavassori. Jannik Sinner’s name does not appear among them. The world number 2, currently competing in the Vienna tournament, has not been included in the initial list: the call-ups can be changed up to one day before the start of the competition, by 11 a.m. on November 17, leaving the door open for the Italian champion should there be a change of heart. The captain, in fact, has the option of changing up to three players from the squad. At the moment, therefore, the Italian number one will be Lorenzo Musetti, called upon to lead the team in the absence of his more titled teammate.

volandri—  Filippo Volandri, captain of Team Italia by Lavoropiù, said: “With our Italian boys, we have built our recent successes on team spirit and mutual trust. This trust is based on hard work and the constant willingness of each of them to help the others. That’s why we’re convinced that the group will arrive in Bologna with even stronger motivation to achieve a historic goal for the team and our fans. We will have to overcome tricky opponents, starting with Austria, but I am fortunate to be able to count on a large squad of players that will allow us to face the challenge with the utmost conviction. Jannik Sinner has not made himself available for 2025. The Davis Cup is, and will always be, his home, and I am sure he will return to the team soon. In the meantime, I can count on a group that is ready to fight and give their all for the blue jersey. In Bologna, it will once again be an exciting adventure. I know the value of these guys, and I am sure that the future will bring us new great satisfactions.”

binaghi—  Federazione President Binaghi said: “We understand and respect Jannik’s decision, which is nevertheless very painful for us, coming at the end of a long and intense season in which he has once again proven to be an extraordinary reference point for the entire Italian tennis movement. The Davis Cup represents for him—and for all of us—a symbol of pride and belonging, and we are sure that he will soon return to wear the blue jersey with the same passion and determination as always. At the same time, I want to emphasize the great confidence we have in the group led by Filippo Volandri: a solid, united team, capable of transforming every difficulty into further motivation. Our boys have already proven that they can achieve extraordinary goals together, and I am convinced that this time too they will honor the colors of Italy to the fullest.”
