The Italian defeats Dutch player De Jong 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in over two hours of play. He will be ranked 46th in the world in the new rankings

The magic moment for Italian tennis never ends. After Jannik Sinner’s victory at Wimbledon and the Hopman Cup team reaching the final against Canada, Luciano Darderi wins his third career title (after Cordoba 2024 and Marrakech 2025) and his second of 2025 in the ATP 250 in Bastad. The Italian beat Dutchman De Jong in the final with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in 2 hours and 8 minutes of play, confirming his extraordinary form. Darderi did very well to overcome difficult moments, as he had done in the semifinals against world number 20 Francisco Cerundolo. After winning the first set and playing very well despite a slow start and a series of 13 points lost in a row, the Italian-Argentine struggled in the second set, which he lost to the Dutch player, who grew significantly during the match. However, in the third set, the break in the fourth game proved decisive for the match.
“It’s wonderful,” said Darderi after the match. “I was nervous since the night before. It’s my third title, I’m only 23 years old, and it was also my first time in Bastad, and I won. It’s truly incredible.
I’m trying to stay focused and keep growing, and hopefully we can continue like this. I’m playing well and I don’t want to stop now.” The last Italian to win in Sweden was Fabio Fognini in 2018.
With this victory, Darderi takes home his third ATP title, his second of the year after Marrakech, returning to the top 50 on Monday (he will be No. 46 in the world). Thanks to Luciano, Italy will have seven players in the top 50 for the second time in its history, as was already the case at the beginning of April.
