Will Otte reach the third round again in London?
After Oscar Otte clearly asserted himself in the German first round match against Daniel Koepfer with 3:0, the player from Cologne is also in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships for the third year in a row. According to the bookmakers, the odds on the German making it into the third round again are quite favourable in the run-up to the duel between Daniel Elahi Galán and Oscar Otte.
Although Daniel Elahi Galán has also won four of his six completed singles matches in the men’s singles at Wimbledon. Overall, however, the Colombian is considered more of a clay court player. His greatest successes to date – four tournament victories on the ATP Challenger Tour – have also come on clay. Accordingly, it is coherent to make a prediction on the German’s progress in the case of Daniel Elahi Galán against Oscar Otte.
However, it has to be said that Oscar Otte is not playing a consistent year and has already lost 13 of his 19 singles matches in 2023. Daniel Elahi Galán has an even poorer record for the year (three wins compared to twelve losses). Nevertheless, we believe that the form of the day will play a decisive role in this second round match.
Considering that both players only played three sets in the first round, we don’t expect the match to be too long and are betting that a maximum of 39 games will be needed to determine the winner.
Daniel Elahi Galán – Statistics & current form
Current world ranking: 85
Position in the seedings: unseeded
The 27-year-old Colombian Daniel Elahi Galán has been a tennis professional since 2015, but qualified for the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in 2020. But he promptly caused a sensation at the 2020 French Open when he stormed into the third round as a lucky loser with wins over Cameron Norrie and Tennys Sandgren, where he lost 3-0 to Novak Djokovic.
The man from Bucaramanga is also considered to be much more experienced on the clay court, where he won all four of his singles titles on the ATP Challenger Tour. However, at least at Wimbledon, things did not go badly for the 27-year-old.
Won four of six singles matches at Wimbledon
At the only Grand Slam tournament played on grass, Daniel Elahi Galán has now made it through the first round in one piece for the third time in a row with a smooth 3-0 win over Yoshihito Nishioka. It was his fourth win in sixth singles at the Wimbledon Championships.
This gives the Colombian an impressive 66.7% win percentage on the time-honoured turf of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, which he could now extend with a victory over Oscar Otte. Galán also reached the third round in London a year ago.
First three singles wins in 2023 on the ATP Tour
The 27-year-old’s record for the year, however, reads anything but impressive. The opening win at Wimbledon was only his third victory in what was already his 15th singles match in 2023 on the ATP Tour. His other two victories came in Rio de Janeiro against Pedro Cachin (ATP 59) and in Houston against Zhizhen Zhang (ATP 93), both on clay.
Consequently, the odds are in favour of Daniel Elahi Galán against Oscar Otte, but the Colombian was quite convincing on his own serve in the opening match. In the 3-0 win, 79% of the points were won on the first serve and twelve of the 14 service games were won on six break points.
Oscar Otte – Statistics & current form
Current world ranking: 196
Seeded List Position: Qualifier
The 29-year-old German Oscar Otte is currently also taking part in the Wimbledon Championships for the third time in his career, where he was able to extend his small streak.
For the third year in a row, the Cologne native, who had to go through qualifying this year and already celebrated three victories over Benoît Paire, Leandro Riedi and Marc Polmans last week, also made it through the first round in commanding fashion.
84% of all first serves led to a point win
The 29-year-old impressively won the German duel with Dominik Koepfer 3:0, which was mainly due to his almost undefendable serve. The Cologne native converted a whopping 84% of all first serves into a point win, hitting 21 aces in the process.
If the German continues to serve like this in the second round, Daniel Elahi Galán’s betting on the 29-year-old’s progress against Oscar Otte will be generally good.
Winning a singles match on the ATP Tour for the first time since April
Oscar Otte also has four wins from six singles matches at Wimbledon – and thus, just like his Colombian opponent, has an impressive win percentage of 66.7%. However, the Cologne native has not yet achieved too much this year.
The 3-0 opening victory over compatriot Dominik Koepfer was only Oscar Otte’s sixth singles win in the 2023 calendar year on the ATP Tour, which already includes 13 defeats. The Cologne native has now turned the corner just in time, as he has lost all of his last six singles matches before Wimbledon. Otte’s last win on the ATP Tour came in April 2023 in the first round of the Madrid Open against Pavel Kotov (ATP 101), which also points to his lack of consistency in the current year.

Daniel Elahi Galán – Oscar Otte Tip
The betting odds on Daniel Elahi Galán against Oscar Otte are in favour of the German. However, the matter is by no means clear-cut, especially as the Cologne native has already suffered many an unexpected defeat this year and has shown little consistency. The same applies to his Colombian opponent, who has only won three rated singles matches on the ATP Tour in 2023 and is generally regarded as a clay court player.
Also in view of the fact that both opponents decided everything in three sets in the first round, we do not expect a long match. Accordingly, it is a good bet that a maximum of 39 games will be needed before the winner is decided.
