Surprise the underdog against shaky ‘Stef’?
Stefanos Tsitsipas has been waiting more than a year now for his next title. For a top ten player in the world rankings, this is of course an unusually long dry spell.
But he may soon end it with a grass-court triumph like his last success at the Mallorca Open in June last year. However, it is clear that the tournament on the Balearic island is several numbers smaller compared to Wimbledon.
In the upcoming round of 16 between Christopher Eubanks and Stefanos Tsitsipas, the odds at least point quite clearly in his direction. However, his opponent from the USA recently won the Mallorca Open himself and crowned himself the Greek’s successor in this tournament. In other respects, too, he is having a much better grass-court season than the world No. 5 from Athens.
For the round of 16 at Wimbledon between Christopher Eubanks and Stefanos Tsitsipas, the forecast includes more than 19.5 games won by the US American.
Christopher Eubanks – Statistics & current form
Christopher Eubanks has been a professional for six years, but had to wait until last month for his first ATP title. Then it finally happened with the aforementioned triumph in Mallorca. The success crowned an already successful grass-court season.
His record on grass in 2023 is impressive, with 13 wins and only three defeats. It can be seen that the 27-year-old has gone from strength to strength. His debut on the green surface at the beginning of June in Surbiton, Great Britain, was still moderate.
Although it was only a Challenger tournament, the professional from Atlanta bowed out after two games and a surprising defeat against the Austrian Jurij Rodionov, who in turn is only 118th in the world rankings and failed to qualify at Wimbledon.
Then, after a still successful qualification at the Boss Open in Stuttgart, Eubanks already had to admit defeat in the first round against the Frenchman Richard Gasquet. But then a clear upswing set in for the US American in Mallorca and he has continued this with his performances at Wimbledon so far.
Eubanks has already seen off a previous year’s semi-finalist
Most notable at the London Grand Slam tournament was his 3-1 second-round win over Britain’s Cameron Norrie, the No. 12 seed who made it all the way to the Wimbledon semifinals last year, where he took at least one set from eventual winner Novak Djokovic.
In the last round against the Australian Christopher O’Connell, the right-hander also proved his enormous nerve by winning three tiebreaks. His current class of play on grass was also demonstrated by 23 aces and 65 direct point wins against the player from Down Under.
In view of his stable service, betting on more than one tiebreak in the duel between Christopher Eubanks and Stefanos Tsitsipas is also worth a recommendation.
Stefanos Tsitsipas – Statistics & Current Form
The Greek, in contrast to Eubanks, looks back on a 2023 grass court season that can at best be described as mixed, despite his current run to the last 16 at Wimbledon. With five wins and four defeats on the green surface, the balance is only just positive.
Tsitsipas lost his first match on grass at the Boss Open on the Killesberg in Stuttgart against the aforementioned French professional Richard Gasquet, and in the following tournament in Halle he had to retire after only two rounds.
His performance in the dress rehearsal for Wimbledon on Mallorca was also disappointing. As last year’s winner, he suffered a defeat in his first match against the German Yannick Hanfmann.
Greek reaches round of 16 with only a lot of effort
The road so far at Wimbledon has also been bumpy. One example was the five-set match to start with against Dominic Thiem. The former world No. 3 has not won a tournament since his triumph at the 2020 US Open, when he defeated Alexander Zverev in the final, and has not been playing at that level for a long time.
Nevertheless, Tsitsipas had to go the full distance against him and the win in the final round only came by a hair’s breadth with a won tiebreak. The second round also took a lot of energy from the 24-year-old’s point of view, as he again had to play a match over five sets against Andy Murray from Great Britain.
Moreover, the same verdict applies as before for Thiem: at 36, the two-time Wimbledon winner is also long past his zenith, which is why the narrow five-set victory against the veteran star was not a glorious one for the Athenian either.
At least in the last round he lived up to his role as favourite. The winner of the 2019 ATP Finals bowled out Serb Laslo Djere 3-0, but as world number 60, he was once again a rather easy opponent.
Defeat or another five-set win for Tsitsipas?
With the Greek’s shaky form and the stable form of his upcoming opponent, Christopher Eubanks’ match against Stefanos Tsitsipas also offers predictions and betting odds on a win for the in-form US player, including a handicap of + 1.5 sets for him.

Christopher Eubanks – Stefanos Tsitsipas Tip
For the clash between Christopher Eubanks and Stefanos Tsitsipas, betting and odds on the US American winning more than 19.5 games are worth considering. Tsitsipas has been playing very well on grass so far this season and has been buoyed by his recent first ATP victory at the grass court tournament in Mallorca.
Before that, the 27-year-old had only three Challenger triumphs, all on hard court. He also secured a career-best finish at a Grand Slam tournament by reaching the last 16 at Wimbledon.
This will set him free as Eubanks can already chalk this up as a success and the pressure is on his opponent. Another factor in favour of the prediction is that Tsitsipas is almost 40 places higher in the world rankings, but has rarely been convincing on grass in 2023.
On top of that, “Stef” will be more tired as he has already had to play two five-set matches before reaching the last 16. A breakthrough of the Greek, who is nevertheless favoured by the bookmakers, is therefore not in the cards.
