Kerber gets off to a successful start at the French Open?
Angelique Kerber starts the French Open 2024 with a match against Arantxa Rus. The first round duel against the Dutchwoman comes at a good time for the former world number one. Rus has lost her last three matches on clay. Kerber, on the other hand, is brimming with confidence and only recently lost to Swiatek at the 2024 Masters in Rome.
If Angie takes the momentum with her, the three-time Grand Slam winner shouldn’t have too much trouble. Even a two-set win seems likely – at least that’s our Rus vs Kerber tennis tip
The Dutchwoman has stumbled recently and has already lost to opponents such as Maristany, Osorio and Carle. The latter even defeated Arantxa Rus 2-0. Compared to Kerber’s performances, it is therefore understandable that the world no. 49 is the underdog in the first round duel against Angie.
Arantxa Rus – statistics & current form
Arantxa Rus had the worst possible preparation for the prestigious tournament in Paris. Since her 2-0 win over Erika Andreeva, the Dutchwoman has lost each of her last three matches. The result at the WTA tournament in Rabat was a particularly bitter setback. Rus had to bow out against Carle right at the start of the tournament.
After two weak sets, she suffered a bitter 0:2 defeat in the best-of-three. The world no. 49 played with a win rate of only 59% after the first serve over these two sets. Rus also lagged behind expectations in her return game. In the first set she still had a solid rate, but the 33-year-old really slumped in the second set.
Arantxa Rus only won six out of 23 points on her opponent’s first serve. With a similar performance, it will be impossible to win the set against her upcoming opponent. If you still want to bet on Rus vs. Kerber, you can also use the bonus promotion at Bwin
Rus continues weak record on clay?
In the last ten matches on clay, the Dutchwoman has a record of 5-5. The series of losses in recent weeks is mainly due to her weakening service game. In the last three matches, Rus has had a win rate of less than 60% on her first serve.
Those statistics are fatal against a strong return player like Kerber. It is probably only a matter of time before Rus concedes the first break against her German opponent. After her weak performance against Maria Lourdes Carle, a clear defeat in the tournament opener of the French Open 2024 cannot be ruled out.
To make matters worse, Arantxa Rus has been disappointing in Paris in recent years anyway. The world no. 49 has not reached the second round at the French Open since 2012 – will it stay that way?
Angelique Kerber – statistics & current form
Angelique Kerber had a mixed start to 2024 after her maternity leave, but the former world number one from Bremen is now back on the road to success. Angie was particularly impressive at the Masters in Rome and was only eliminated in her round of 16 match against Iga Swiatek.
Before that, opponents such as Davis, Kudermetova and Sasnovich were eliminated in two sets each. The Bremen-born player’s strong return game was particularly commendable. Even against a player like Kudermetova, who usually shines with a strong service game, Angie made four breaks over two sets.
Iga Swiatek, the WTA’s world number one, also felt the effects of this. In her two-set victory against the three-time Grand Slam winner, Swiatek was broken twice by Kerber. The first set in particular was an equal match at a high level. Kerber should therefore by no means be underestimated at the French Open 2024
Will Angie make a successful comeback in Paris?
At the French Open, Kerber’s best Grand Slam result so far has been a quarter-final appearance – the last time in 2018, mind you. Since then, the former world number one has been eliminated three times in the first round of the prestigious clay court tournament.
A first-round debacle can be ruled out this time. Kerber has been far too strong recently for that. How clear the result of the upcoming match will be depends above all on the 36-year-old’s service game. If she is in the right form on the day, Kerber is certainly capable of achieving a rate above the 60% mark on her own serve. A two-set win would therefore probably only be a formality

Arantxa Rus – Angelique Kerber betting tip
The year 2024 got off to a mixed start for Kerber. It therefore came as no surprise that the former world number one was eliminated in the first round of the first Grand Slam of the year, the 2024 Australian Open. Since then, the 36-year-old has also had to contend with a number of setbacks on the tour.
However, Angie got back on track just in time for the start of the French Open 2024. Kerber impressed at the Masters 2024 in Rome and only lost to world number one Swiatek. In her clay court matches against players such as Davis, Kudermetova and Sasnovich, she had previously won three 2-0 victories
If the momentum is carried over, it stands to reason that a successful tournament opener at the French Open is also on the cards. Our Rus vs Kerber betting tip targets a 2:0 win for Angie at odds of 2.38. For Arantxa Rus, it would be the third defeat in a row on clay. We are betting five units
