Is Zverev’s Chinese flight of fancy coming to an end?
The semi-final at the ATP tournament in Beijing offers a real felt ball treat with Alexander Zverev against Daniil Medvedev! Betbase has tips and odds ready for you. The German is on a very successful trip through China.
Last week he won the title in Chengdu and the German is obviously on a mission. This includes collecting as many points as possible for the annual ranking in order to be able to start at the final highlight of the season, the ATP Finals.
So far, things have gone very well for him in the Chinese capital with three wins and a place in the semifinals. However, he now faces a particularly strong opponent in the 27-year-old Muscovite. For the match between Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev, the tip is also aiming for an outright 2:0 victory for the Russian.
Alexander Zverev – Statistics & current form
The Hanseatic player is struggling through the tournament in Beijing: Zverev’s health was already knocked out in the opening match against Diego Schwartzman. Stomach problems as a remote diagnosis meant that the 2021 Olympic champion even had to throw up at times. In the end, however, he still managed a 2:1 victory over the Argentine.
The second round against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina from Spain was hardly less strenuous. Once again it went over three rounds and due to the very late scheduling, the match only found a winner in the night after Chinese local time. The “sufferings of Alexander Z.” also continued in the last round against Chile’s Nicolás Jarry.
In contrast to the two previous duels in Beijing, Zverev won the first set, but again it was only enough to win in three sets. Zverev needed just under two and a half hours, which is why this match was once again enormously energy-sapping.
Zverev is on crutches
On top, the German is apparently still in poor health – this time due to a cold. In view of this situation, the prediction of a victory for the Russian without a tiebreak in the match between Zverev and Medvedev is also worth considering.
The German’s fighting spirit demands respect, but after the three very difficult matches and a now even more difficult opponent, it seems that the Russian will manage the set decisions without a tiebreak. Quotes for the additional ATP Beijing Tennis tip are available for example at Betano.
Daniil Medvedev – Statistics & current form
Medvedev was still sitting out last week’s tournament in Chengdu, which has left him fresher going into Beijing. Moreover, his performances in the current tournament required much less grain than in the case of his upcoming opponent.
In the first two rounds against the US American Paul and the Australian De Minaur, the Russian prevailed without losing a set. Only in the last round against the Frenchman Humbert did Medvedev have to go through three sets.
Medvedev is this year’s US Open finalist
With his performances so far, he confirms his already strong form before. He reached the final at the US Open last month, even though he was largely without a chance against the “Djoker”.
However, his previous semi-final success against Spanish prodigy Carlos Alcaraz, who won the Grand Slam tournament in New York last year, showed his current form. Medvedev has not yet won in Beijing, which is why he is particularly motivated at this tournament.
The fact that he is also extra strong on hard court is evident from his career record: the former world No. 1 has won 18 of his 20 ATP titles on this surface!
Alexander Zverev – Daniil Medvedev Direct comparison / H2H record
This is the fifth time they have met this year: Medvedev won the first three meetings in 2023 before Zverev won 2-1 in Cincinnati last August. The two professionals have also met on hard court a total of 15 times and the record is 8-7 in favour of the Russian.
However, Medvedev has developed into a fearful opponent for the German in the recent past. The overall record may be close, but looking back at the past ten hard-court duels, Zverev’s win percentage drops to a mere 30 per cent.
Alexander Zverev – Daniil Medvedev tip
At the moment, the tennis world revolves around the Middle Kingdom. After the tournament in Chengdu last week and the ongoing tournament in Beijing, the Masters in Shanghai is on the agenda next week. So far, the German has been very strong in China.
He won the title in Chengdu and now the next final beckons. For the match between Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev, however, the forecast is for a 2-0 win for the Russian and an end to the Hamburg player’s winning streak for the time being
The upcoming opponent of the number 10 in the world ranking is in a very stable condition and has a physical advantage. He skipped the tournament in Chengdu the previous week and his appearances in Beijing so far have been much shorter in total than in the German’s case.
Another factor in favour of Zverev against Medvedev is the two-time winner of the ATP Finals, who is in poor health. Last but not least, the Russian has not been in Zverev’s favour in the recent past: he has only won three of the last ten hard-court matches.
