Will Struffi overcome the difficult hurdle in round one?
The ABN AMRO Open is being held in Rotterdam for the 51st time in its history. The 32-man main draw of the men’s singles not only includes the recent Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner, but also Jan-Lennard Struff, a German player who has had a mixed start to 2024 so far. The Warsteiner has three wins and three defeats to his name. Even now, the prediction for Alejandro Davidovich Fokina against Jan-Lennard Struff is that the German will lose in the first round
It should be noted, however, that Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has always failed in the first round of the Rotterdam Open in the last two years. However, the Spaniard has also faced very strong opponents in Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev, against whom he at least managed to win a set. The oddsmakers are therefore leaning towards the Spaniard in the Alejandro Davidovich Fokina v Jan-Lennard Struff prediction.
All in all, 2024 has also gone better for Alejandro Davidovich Fokina so far, who has won five of his seven singles matches, has already beaten the first top 10 player in 2024 and reached the quarter-finals in Marseille last week. However, the man from Málaga has yet to record any truly resounding successes. Accordingly, it would be very risky to bet on his victory, especially as Jan-Lennard Struff is no run-of-the-mill player.
In a match in which the form of the day will certainly play a decisive role, we expect a decision in two sets. The biggest value in this context is the bet that the winner will be decided in under 23.5 games

The 33-year-old German Jan-Lennard Struff has been part of the ATP Tour since 2012, although he has yet to win a title there either. The Warstein native has reached the final three times – in the summer of 2023 in Madrid, he even reached a major final for the first time, which he “only” lost 1:2 to superstar Carlos Alcaraz. However, he failed to win a title on all three occasions.
Nevertheless, Struffi had just played the most remarkable year of his career to date in 2023, in which he won 20 of his 37 singles matches and climbed to 21st place in the ATP world rankings, which was a new career high
Jan-Lennard Struff with a mixed start to the season
However, the German’s start to the new year was a little sluggish. The 33-year-old was able to defeat Marin Cilic, a former Grand Slam winner, 2:1 (3:6, 7:6 and 7:6) in impressive style in his first singles match in Hong Kong. At the Australian Open, however, he lost 3:2 to Miomir Kecmanovic (ATP 60) in the second round.
Overall, Struffi, who at least contributed a singles win over Mate Valkusz (ATP 213) in the most recent Davis Cup clash between Germany and Hungary, has three wins from six singles matches played in 2024.
Jan-Lennard Struff performs best on indoor hard court
Now the Warstein native wants to get off to a flying start in the Dutch port city, where a tough opponent and direct neighbor in the ATP world rankings is already standing in his way in the first round. The fact that the match takes place on indoor hard court certainly plays into the 33-year-old’s hands.
In no other constellation does Struffi have such a high win rate (52.3 percent) as on indoor hard court. Consequently, it can in no way be ruled out that the bet on Alejandro Davidovich Fokina against Jan-Lennard Struff will work out
