Alex Marquez and Quartararo on the front row. Bastianini struggles, while Mir did not take part in the session after crashing in pre-qualifying

Marco Bezzecchi flies at Misano with his Aprilia. The Italian clinches pole position at the last gasp with a sensational lap in 1’30”134. Behind him is Alex Marquez, less than a tenth of a second behind, and a fantastic Fabio Quartararo, third after going through Q1. Fourth place went to World Championship leader Marc Marquez, who finished ahead of Franco Morbidelli and Luca Marini, with the latter setting the sixth fastest time in the final moments of the session. Fabio Di Giannantonio finished seventh, ahead of Francesco Bagnaia. Pedro Acosta was ninth, while Fermin Aldeguer rounded out the top 10. World champion Jorge Martin was eleventh on the other Aprilia. The Sprint will start at 3pm.

The riders immediately took to the track to try to gain access to Q2. After the first timed lap, Aldeguer was in the lead, with Raul Fernandez and Enea Bastianini behind him. Shortly after, Binder took the lead, while Ogura moved up to third position. Fabio Quartararo made his first mark with 8 minutes to go: the Frenchman took the lead with a time of 1’30’‘842. Behind him was Aldeguer, who in the meantime had clocked a time of 1’30’’852. Bastianini crashed at turn 15 with 5 minutes to go. Raul Fernandez set the third fastest time with two minutes to go: the Spaniard ruined an excellent attempt in the last sector. In the final stages, Quartararo improved further, securing his place in Q2 with a 1’30”481. Along with the Frenchman, Aldeguer also advanced to the next stage of qualifying. No luck for Bastianini, who will start twentieth in the afternoon Sprint and tomorrow’s race.

Q2—  Mir was absent after crashing in pre-qualifying. Marc Marquez immediately set the pace, taking the lead with his brother Alex and Morbidelli behind him. Alex took the lead shortly after with a 1’30”222, while Bezzecchi moved into second place, less than two tenths behind the Spaniard from the Gresini team. Acosta was third fastest. Bagnaia was fifth with 9 minutes to go. At this stage, all the riders returned to the pits to fit new tires. Acosta crashed with 4 minutes to go, but the Spaniard was unharmed. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez moved up to second place, one tenth of a second behind his brother. Bagnaia was fourth with 2 minutes to go. Quartararo had an excellent lap with one minute to go: the Frenchman moved up to second place, less than a tenth behind Alex Marquez. With thirty seconds to go, Bezzecchi took the lead with a time of 1’30”134. The Italian finally took pole position, with Alex Marquez and Quartararo behind him.
