Auxerre’s last victory against Monaco dates back to 2009. Yes, it’s true, the hosts have played in Ligue 2 for several seasons, but since then, in every match… Cycling, the 2031 World Championships awarded to Trentino: the world championships return to Italy after 11 years
The assignment was made official at the UCI Congress in Kigali, Rwanda, where the current edition is taking place: titles in all disciplines except cyclo-cross will be up for grabs
All that was missing was the official announcement, and now it has arrived, from the International Cycling Union congress held today in Rwanda: the 2031 World Cycling Championships have been awarded to Trentino, and so the world championships will return to Italy after 11 years (Imola 2020). It will be a special edition because, as was the case in Scotland in 2023 and will be in Haute-Savoie in 2027, titles will be awarded in all disciplines except cyclo-cross, as part of a four-yearly format.
The heart of the road races will be Trento, which already hosted the 2021 European Championships (the queen stage was won by Sonny Colbrelli, sprinting ahead of Remco Evenepoel). Val di Sole is ready for mountain biking, while the track events could be held outside the region, using the new velodrome in Spresiano (still under construction). “We have submitted a high-quality dossier,” said Maurizio Fugatti, president of the autonomous province of Trento. Italy has been awarded two other events: the 2029 World Cyclo-cross Championships in Spresiano-Le Bandie (Treviso) and the 2030 World Mountain Bike Championships in Selva di Val Gardena (Mtb marathon-Hero).
nto that there has been, they have always lost out. This is also highly likely to be the case in Saturday evening’s match.
Bolstered by two wins in their first three games, Monaco are not hiding: they want to try to keep up not with PSG – no one is capable of doing that in France – but with all the teams that will try in every way to take at least second place. The defeat against Lille, their only one this season, which came in injury time thanks to a goal by Giroud, is acceptable for the Principality’s team, which then, before the break, got back on track by winning three points again.
And for Auxerre, it is clear that Monaco is their nemesis, as they have almost never managed to score points against them. Furthermore, the technical qualities of the two teams cannot be compared in the slightest: on the one hand, there is a team that wants to qualify for the Champions League at all costs, and on the other, a team that would like to achieve a comfortable safety margin but knows that it cannot do so by winning this type of game.

The prediction
While they score regularly up front, Monaco still struggle a little at the back. In short, we would not be surprised to see an away win in a game with at least three goals in total.
