This is a huge opportunity and all the conditions are in place: Soncin’s Azzurre can and want to beat the Portuguese team to reach the quarter-finals of the Women’s European Championship, where we have not been for 12 years. So let’s take a look at the predictions and odds for Portugal vs. Italy, scheduled for Monday, July 7, in Geneva at 9 p.m.

PORTUGAL-ITALY PREDICTIONS AND ODDS—   As we mentioned, the Italian team has not reached the knockout stage of a European Championship since 2013 and in the last two editions, in 2017 and 2022, it was eliminated at the end of the group stage. The start of the tournament in Switzerland has been encouraging thanks to a 1-0 victory over Belgium (goal by Anna Caruso), and now the opportunity is really big: if Italy also beats Portugal, living up to its role as the big favorite in the match, it will gain immediate access to the quarterfinals if Spain—a very unlikely scenario—does not lose to Belgium in the afternoon match.

The previous matches between the two national teams favor Italy: five games and five wins, the last one in 2020. That is why Soncin’s Azzurre are clear favorites in Geneva according to the bookies on the main betting sites: victory is priced at 1.65 on Snai and LeoVegas, 1.63 on Goldbet, and 1.62 on Betsson. Neto’s Portugal got off to a terrible start in the competition: it is true that they were up against world champions Spain, but the harsh 5-0 defeat practically extinguished any ambitions. To get back into contention for qualification with second place in the group, the Portuguese need a win against Italy, even though they have lost five and drawn one of their last six official matches. Azzurri coach Soncin is also considering some changes (Bonansea in place of Boattin and either Piemonte or Cambiaghi in place of Girelli) for the final group match against Spain on July 11, with qualification at stake. At that point, the third match would only serve to determine the final group standings, with first place still up for grabs. Also worth considering in the match between Portugal and Italy is Over 2.5, at 1.90 on Goldbet and Snai, 1.88 on LeoVegas, and 1.87 on Betsson.
