Revenge for the cup defeat for the Bulls?
It’s been less than a month since RB Leipzig last made the trip to the Autostadt. At the time, the reigning cup winners were defeated by the Lower Saxons and can kiss their DFB Cup hat-trick goodbye. Now the Saxons are back in the Bundesliga and we’ll check here in our Wolfsburg vs RB Leipzig betting tip whether the Bulls will take revenge for their cup defeat
Now it’s time for the Bundesliga and the Wolves have missed the boat in recent weeks. The team from Lower Saxony seemed to have booked a firm place on the train to the international places. Apparently, however, the ticket has somehow been lost. Niko Kovac’s team are currently only in eleventh place. The gap to sixth place is six points, which is just as big as the cushion to the relegation places.
Saturday’s clash against Rasenballsport will therefore be crucial for the Wolves. The Bulls are in a much better position in the league. In fourth place, Marco Rose’s team are fully on course for the Champions League, but still have some strong rivals around them that they need to keep at a distance
In the match between Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig, the bookmakers are predicting an away win. However, the fact that points will not be handed to the Bulls on a silver platter at the Volkswagen Arena should have been clear to them since their cup exit. Nevertheless, we can imagine that the revenge will succeed because the Saxons are simply in better shape
Wolfsburg – statistics & current form
The Wolves got off to a really good start to the season and looked set to consolidate their position in the top third of the table, but the team from Lower Saxony have now hit rock bottom. Niko Kovac’s team are currently without a win in five games. Since matchday seven, only Union Berlin have collected fewer points than VfL in the Bundesliga
Trust in Kovac despite the crisis
Under Niko Kovac, there has only ever been such a long run without a win, namely at the start of the pre-season. Nevertheless, managing director Marcel Schäfer continues to have great faith in his manager. Despite the minor crisis, the coach is not up for debate. Perhaps that will change on this matchday, as the odds clearly point to another defeat for the Wolves between Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig
The current record could get even worse. Wolfsburg have already conceded six defeats. There have never been more in the Bundesliga after eleven matchdays. Nevertheless, the Wolves actually have two more points in their account than at the same point last season. VfL have conceded at least two goals in each of their last five Bundesliga games.
Before the international break, they really hit the nail on the head. Wolfsburg suffered a clear 0:4 defeat at Mönchengladbach. This means that only Union Berlin have conceded more goals than VfL in their last five games. Perhaps the international matches came at just the right time to stabilize the team. Whether the two weeks were used to do just that will become clear on Saturday against the Saxons.
Predicted Wolfsburg line-up:
RB Leipzig – Statistics & current form
What is striking about RB Leipzig this season is that they have apparently been able to compensate very well for the departure of a number of stars. Lois Openda and Xavi Simons have delivered consistent performances from the very first matchday. The Saxons currently have seven points more in their account than at the same time last year. 28 goals after eleven games are the second-best figure in the history of the Bundesliga. On top of that, they have advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League
Problems only away from home
When Marco Rose’s team is vulnerable, however, it is mainly away from home. There have been two defeats in the Bundesliga, both away from home. They were also knocked out of the DFB Cup in Wolfsburg. So if there can be problems for Rasenballsport, it’s more likely to be in an away game and that’s the only reason why a prediction of a home win between Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig doesn’t seem completely unthinkable
Let’s return to the two attacking newcomers. Lois Openda is the Bulls’ top scorer with eleven goals. With nine goals, he is the league’s top scorer after Harry Kane and Serhou Guirassy. Xavi Simons is also the best goal scorer in the top flight. The young Dutchman has already set up seven goals directly. It is conceivable that both players will also leave their mark on the game in Wolfsburg on Saturday.
Prior to the internationals, Marco Rose’s team won 3:1 at home against SC Freiburg. Xavi Simons initially put his team 1:0 ahead. In a psychologically unfavorable move, Sportclub equalized at the break. A double strike then led to the home win. Ten minutes before the end, Lois Openda and Christoph Baumgartner scored within a minute of each other to seal the three-pointer.
Predicted line-up of RB Leipzig:
Wolfsburg – RB Leipzig head-to-head comparison / H2H result
To date there have been 21 meetings between VfL Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig. The direct comparison favors the Bulls with 10:5 wins and six draws. In the Bundesliga, things have gone very well for the Saxons in the head-to-head duels of late. The last three matches in the top flight have gone to Rasenballsport Leipzig. The Saxons even kept a clean sheet in each of them.
As mentioned at the beginning, however, the last encounter was less than a month ago. In the second round of the DFB Cup, the defending champions had to play at the Volkswagen Arena. The Wolves took an early 1:0 lead through Vaclav Cerny. It then became a one-goal game, but the club from Lower Saxony defended their own goal with everything they had and ultimately advanced to the round of 16.
Wolfsburg – RB Leipzig betting tip
VfL Wolfsburg are in crisis and have picked up just one point in their last five Bundesliga games. The only ray of hope during this time was the win in the DFB Cup, against RB Leipzig of all teams. The Wolves will remember this victory and try to build on it. In the Bundesliga, however, they do not have fond memories of the Saxons.
VfL have lost three of their last three league games against the Bulls and have not even scored a goal of their own
When Marco Rose’s team is vulnerable, it tends to be away from home. But because they’ve already had the negative experience in Wolfsburg, we think the Saxons have learned from that and know what to expect in the Volkswagen Arena. We think they will get revenge and have decided to play the odds on an easy away win between Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig
