Will Spurs finally win another London derby?
For four consecutive London derbies now, Tottenham Hotspur have only conceded defeats in duels with city rivals without exception. That is as many London derbies lost as in the 17 city duels before (seven wins, six draws, four defeats). Not since a period between March 2003 and January 2004 has Tottenham been so unsuccessful.
Accordingly, the Lilywhites will now hope to turn the tide at the London Stadium as the Hammers again look to shake off their recent home slump. The last two league games at home were both lost. Nevertheless, ahead of the derby between West Ham and Tottenham, the odds are swinging in the direction of the hosts.
The assessment is also noteworthy because Spurs have won three of their last four away games at the Hammers. However, they lost their last away game here 2-1, so it is difficult to make a bet on the outcome of the West Ham v Tottenham match.
It makes all the more sense to avoid the three-way system and instead bet on a late goal.
West Ham – Statistics & current form
West Ham United have never won the English Championship before. At least they have lifted the FA Cup three times in their club’s history. This also earned them a place in the European Cup Winners’ Cup, which they won in 1965.
The Hammers are currently competing internationally for the first time in 15 years after finishing sixth in the final table in 2020/21. They have nine points from three games on record in Group H of the Europa League after Thursday night’s 3-0 home win over Genk.
Recent two home defeats in a row with late goals conceded
Similarly successful to the Irons’ performance in the Europa League was initially their start to the season in the Premier League. David Moyes’ side have won four of their first eight league games, with two draws and two defeats.
However, both defeats came in the last two home games, when the final goal was conceded in the 89th and 90th minutes of the game against Manchester United and promoted Brentford in a 2-1 defeat. This also underlines the value of betting on a late goal for West Ham against Tottenham.
The fewest players used in the entire Premier League
Overall, 14 points out of a possible 24 is enough for the Irons to finish in a solid seventh place, with only one point missing on a Champions League spot. The Hammers are accordingly motivated going into the London derby, especially as they already took four of a possible six points against Spurs in league action last season.
Nevertheless, it is not easy to bet on a victory for the team from London’s East End, because West Ham United are a bit too easy to count on. David Moyes has only used 18 different players so far – by far the fewest in the entire Premier League.

Tottenham – Statistics & current form
Tottenham Hotspur are two-time English champions (1951 and 1961) and have also won international titles (European Cup Winners’ Cup 1963 and UEFA Cup 1972 and 1984). But especially in the recent past, the Lilywhites did not win much either.
The last notable title was the FA Cup in 1991. Most recently, the men from north London missed out on the championship in 2016/17 despite only four defeats in league play and failed to reach the final of the Champions League in the summer of 2019.
No draw in 14 league games season-long
At present, long-time Wolverhampton success coach Nuno Espírito Santo is expected to lead the North Londoners back to success. However, under the Portuguese’s recent success, Spurs have mostly failed to score goals.
Tottenham scored only nine goals in eight league games. That was enough for a total of five victories. However, the other three games were all lost, which is why the Lilywhites are currently in fifth place. By the way, none of their last 14 Premier League matches ended in a draw.
When will Harry Kane get his act together again?
Meanwhile, the North Londoners were also on international duty on Thursday, losing an energy-sapping away game at Vitesse Arnhem 1-0. It will be correspondingly difficult for Spurs to finally win another London derby just three days later in their next away game.
Predicted Tottenham line-up:
Lloris – Reguilón – Dier – Romero – Royal – Skipp – Höjbjerg – Son – Ndombélé – Moura – Kane

West Ham – Tottenham Direct comparison / H2H record
Head to head: 65 – 53 – 98
There have been a total of 216 meetings between the two teams so far and the Spurs lead the head-to-head comparison with 98 wins. The Lilywhites have also won three of their last four away games with the Hammers. Last season, however, they lost 2-1 here, picking up just one point from a possible six against the Irons.
West Ham – Tottenham Tip
With West Ham v Tottenham, the prediction must also take into account the fact that both teams had an energy-sapping match to play in UEFA competitions on Thursday, which could well weigh on two teams that rotate remarkably little. With only three substitutions allowed in the Premier League, this London derby could be particularly lacking in the closing stages.
In a match that is difficult to predict, the value for bets on a late goal is correspondingly high, especially as the Hammers conceded a goal shortly before the final whistle in each of their last two home games and repeatedly lacked concentration in the closing stages.
