Are the Hammers going to feel Liverpool’s away momentum?
One of the absolute highlights of the eleventh matchday in the Premier League takes place on Sunday afternoon in the capital. There, West Ham will receive Liverpool. According to the odds, a match with offensive potential is to be expected first and foremost, as both teams are in good shape on the one hand and prefer a bold approach to playing forward anyway on the other.
The fact that the Reds are still the favourites comes as little surprise in view of recent impressions. Jürgen Klopp’s team is the only Premier League club that has not yet lost this season. In the top flight, too, the Merseyside side have taken the maximum twelve points from four matches. Mo Salah and Co. are definitely not lacking in self-confidence at the moment.
Nevertheless, it should not be neglected in the final West Ham vs. Liverpool prediction that the home side are also doing really well at the moment. The Irons have only lost one of their last five league games. In the event of a home win on Sunday, Moyes’ side could even overtake LFC in the league table. Consequently, we expect a competitive match between two teams with a strong game, in which one or the other goal could well be scored.
West Ham – Statistics & current form
For many years, the gap between aspiration and reality at West Ham United was wide. The Londoners found themselves in a similar predicament as, for example, Berlin’s Hertha in the Bundesliga. But while the “old lady” is still looking for the way out of the grey midfield, the Hammers have meanwhile developed an identity that enables them to live up to the higher expectations.
Thanks to a sixth-place finish in pre-season, the capital club is back in the main draw of an international competition for the first time in 15 years. Things are going pretty well there, with ten points from four games suggesting that coach David Moyes’ side will immediately qualify for the last 16 as group winners. Thursday’s 2-2 draw in Genk was not only their first loss of a point, but also their first two goals conceded in the group stage.
West Ham with more problems at home than away
On a national level, the fans from the East End of London can also be absolutely satisfied with the results so far. Six victories are offset by two draws and two defeats after ten match days. Fourth place behind the top teams Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City is very respectable. The main highlight is the strong attack, which averages two goals of its own and has only failed to score once in the league so far.
The record at home is somewhat more problematic, as eight of the ten points not scored were lost at home in the London Stadium. In five home games this season, there have been only two wins, but also two defeats, against Manchester United and promoted Brentford (1:2).
With that in mind, we’d be wary of betting on the hosts to pick up a point between West Ham and Liverpool, especially as the Hammers have failed to win any of their last ten Premier League matches against their upcoming opponents.
Predicted West Ham line-up:
Fabianski; Johnson, Zouma, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Rice, Soucek; Bowen, Fornals, Benrahma; Antonio

Liverpool – Statistics & current form
Liverpool Football Club are playing an exceptionally good season so far. The Reds have played 16 times in 2021/22 and have not conceded a single defeat. Even better: Twelve of the aforementioned 16 matches were victorious; in four cases they “only” managed a draw. In the Champions League, their ticket to the last 16 has already been punched through their home win against Atletico Madrid during the week, and in the Premier League, they are only three points behind leaders Chelsea.
In order to maintain the connection to the top, it will be of enormous importance that the prediction of an away win pays off on Sunday afternoon in the duel between West Ham and Liverpool. Statistically speaking, however, such a prediction is well placed, as LFC have not lost in the Premier League for 20 games this season. Apart from that, the Reds have also come back victorious in four of their last five visits to their upcoming opponents.
Does the LFC offence also bomb in London?
In addition, it is important to note that Klopp’s team is making a big splash away from home this season. With 13 out of a possible 15 points, Liverpool are currently the best away team in the league. Mo Salah and his attacking colleagues have already scored 19 goals away from home. On average, that equates to almost four goals per away game. In the last six away games in the English top flight, they have always scored at least three goals of their own. No other English team in the 20th and 21st centuries has ever achieved such an impressive record.
The bottom line is that we can’t help but take a closer look at the odds on the visitors’ three-goal win in the West Ham vs Liverpool match. If the simple 1.74 in favour of the Reds on the three-way market is not enough for you, you can possibly also go for the handicap win with at least a two-goal lead, because in the four away victories mentioned this season, the victory difference was even always three or more goals (5:0, 5:0, 3:0, 3:0). And this despite the fact that Manchester United and Leeds United were opponents who are not really to be considered cannon fodder.
The German coach will definitely have to do without the injured Firmino, Elliott, Jones, Gomez, Milner and Keita. Mo Salah, of course, will be included. The Egyptian could become the first Liverpool professional to score for his team in the first six away games of a season at the weekend. It seems far from impossible that he will succeed, because in addition to his impressive form, the opponent also suits him quite well. In eight league games against the Irons, the World Player of the Year has already scored nine goals.
Predicted Liverpool line-up:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Jota, Mane

11/03 2021 – Liverpool FC 2 – 0 Atletico Madrid

West Ham – Liverpool Direct Comparison / H2H Balance
In 118 encounters in the English top flight, West Ham have only managed 23 full victories so far. LFC, meanwhile, have 66 victories to their name. In the recent past, too, the Hammers have had virtually no success against the Reds.
Since 2015/16, the Londoners have not won a Premier League match against the men from Merseyside. On the contrary, in the last ten league encounters, Liverpool have had the upper hand eight times and drawn the other two games. The direct comparison also underlines the advantage in favour of the Klopp team.
West Ham – Liverpool tip
With great anticipation, we are looking forward to the top match in the table of the 11th matchday in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. The fact that the Hammers are now seen as the top team in the English top flight is well deserved. In the 2021 calendar year, for example, only reigning champions Manchester City and Champions League winners Chelsea managed to pick up more points than the Hammers, who are once again playing a good role this season in fourth place.
This weekend, however, the grapes may be hanging a little too high for the Londoners, after all they are up against the still unbeaten Reds from Anfield. Jürgen Klopp’s side have won four of their five away games, scoring a whopping 19 goals in the process! In terms of form, there is probably no better team on the island at the moment than the 2020 champions, as the odds between West Ham and Liverpool confirm, which are relatively clearly in favour of the visitors.
In our opinion, it is also the most sensible option to bet on an away win in the West Ham vs Liverpool clash. In addition to the aforementioned away strength of the second-placed team, it should also be noted that West Ham have suffered both defeats at home this season and have also lost four of their last five home games against LFC. In general, the Irons have waited ten league games for a win against the cult club from the Merseyside.
