Derby atmosphere in Köpenick
There have been a few cities that have hosted a city derby in the Bundesliga. Currently, however, two teams in the top flight are a unique selling point of the capital. On Saturday, the eagerly awaited derby between Union and Hertha is on the agenda. Nothing less than the city championship is at stake.
It is the first of three duels between the two local rivals this season, as in addition to the two matches in the Bundesliga, the two clubs will also meet in the third round of the DFB Cup. At least on Saturday, the well-known betting providers tend to offer lower quotes on a home win for the Eisernen.
Urs Fischer’s team is in eighth place in the table with 17 points. Hertha have twelve points and are in 13th place. This means that the trend is clear again this year. The Eisernen have collected 19 points more than the old lady since their promotion to the Bundesliga and perhaps that is one reason why the forecast between Union Berlin and Hertha is more towards a home win.
The Berlin derby should be predestined for live betting. Both Union and Hertha have already given away eight points after leading this season. Therefore, a 1-0 score probably doesn’t mean much, no matter for whom. Perhaps it makes sense to place a live bet on a point win for the team behind first in the Union Berlin vs Hertha match.
Union Berlin – Statistics & current form
It was clear in advance that this season would not be an easy one for the Eisernen, given the triple burden for the first time. In the Conference League it shows that the Berliners still have room for improvement internationally, but in the Bundesliga things continue to go quite well, and there especially at the Alte Försterei.
Kruse on board?
Union have only lost two of their last 27 home games in the top flight. In addition to the stadium, Max Kruse is a guarantee for success. With the attacker, there have been three victories recently, without him, the Köpenickers have remained winless three times recently. As the striker is expected to be in the starting eleven, an impulse is to check the odds on a home win in the duel between Union Berlin and Hertha.
After the defeats against Bayern Munich and Feyenoord Rotterdam, there was at least another point before the international matches in the guest game at 1. FC Köln. The Geißböcke took an early lead, but Julian Ryerson and Grischa Prömel turned the game around at the break. In the final phase, Cologne managed to tie the game at 2:2.
Max Kruse should have healed his thigh blister and will probably return to the starting eleven. Should it not be enough, Sheraldo Becker or Andreas Voglsammer would be available as alternatives. Julian Ryerson would be an option for Christopher Trimmel. Only Kevin Behrens will be absent due to his quarantine.

Hertha – Statistics & current form
The Big City Club is only number two in the capital at the moment. This circumstance will not change at the weekend, but at the moment Hertha are relatively relaxed after many quarrels in recent months. However, this is mainly due to the fact that the sporting decline has been halted in the last few games.
Upward trend at Hertha
Pal Dardai’s team has only conceded one defeat in the last five competitive matches. The team now looks much more stable than at the beginning of the season and has already recorded two victories away from home this season. This could mean that in the clash between Union Berlin and Hertha, you could also be right in predicting a point win for the old lady.
Before the international matches, the Berliners had the difficult home match against Bayer Leverkusen ahead of them. Hertha showed once again that it is no walk in the park to play against them at the moment. Stevan Jovetic’s 1:0 was not enough to win the game, because the Werkself equalised in the last minute.
It is bitter, however, that defender Dedrick Boyata still has to serve a suspension. With Niklas Stark and Marton Dardai, however, the central defence should still be reasonably secure. Apart from Boyata, coach Pal Dardai will have to do without the two injured players Vladimir Darida and Lukas Klünter. Stevan Jovetic has meanwhile tested positive and should be available
Predicted line-up of Hertha:
Schwolow – Pekarik, Stark, M. Dardai, Plattenhardt – Ascacibar, Tousart – Richter, Serdar, Mittelstädt – Selke – Coach: P. Dardai

Union Berlin – Hertha Direct comparison / H2H balance
In fact, the explosiveness of Berlin derbies is not as great as in other cities. That is because this rivalry has not been able to grow, as there have only been eight competitive matches between Union and Hertha to date. In the direct comparison, the old lady is still just ahead with 3:2 victories. Three other duels ended in a draw.
In the Bundesliga, Hertha is still waiting for a win at the Alte Försterei. Recently, however, the old lady has done better in the derbies, taking seven points from the last three games. The last encounter took place in Köpenick last April. Robert Andrich gave the Eisernen an early lead before Dodi Lukebakio equalised on penalties for a 1-1 final score.
Union Berlin – Hertha Tip
This is mainly due to the fact that the Eisernen have only lost two of their past 27 home games in the top flight. However, there has been a slight dip in this great home record recently, as the Fischer eleven conceded two home defeats in both the Conference League and the Bundesliga.
In general, the form of the Köpenickers in recent weeks is capable of improvement. And a lot stands and falls with Max Kruse. If the attacker is on board, there are usually victories. If he’s absent, it’s not enough for a three-goal win. However, Hertha travel to this city duel in somewhat better shape and therefore we can imagine that a bet on a point win for the visitors in the match between Union Berlin and Hertha is absolutely permissible.
The old lady has never won at the Alte Försterei in the Bundesliga, but has picked up seven points in the last three games in the derby. There is not much to say that this little series will not continue. That is why we have decided to play the betting odds on the double chance X2 between Union Berlin and Hertha.
