Will there be an offensive spectacle between two unbeaten teams?

One of the most interesting and high-class football matches of the international weekend takes place in London on Saturday evening. Two still unbeaten clubs face each other in the English capital as part of Matchday 7 in the Premier League. Despite the home advantage, betting on the home team in the clash between Tottenham and Liverpool will be higher odds.

This may be due to the fact that Spurs have not particularly enjoyed playing the Reds in the past. Only one win from the last 21 (!) Premier League games underlines this thesis, as does the fact that the Londoners have been waiting for a full success at league level against their rivals from the Beatles’ city for almost exactly six years. It is therefore quite risky to make a prediction on coach Ange Postecoglou’s surprisingly well-started side in the Tottenham v Liverpool match.

The hosts still have a slight advantage up their sleeve, however, because while LFC’s tough away game at the Thames marks the end of the second English week in a row, the Lily Whites have had a week to fully prepare for this match.

With Harry Kane’s ex-club also out of international contention, Jürgen Klopp’s charges have a much heavier workload, which is why we’re holding back our top tips on the complicated question of who will take the three points.

Tottenham – Statistics & current form

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club are just great fun to watch at the moment. The worst fears of many fans and especially neutral observers, some of which were that the long-time top team would now be consigned to the grey midfield of the Premier League standings, have not been fulfilled. On the contrary, the Lily Whites have been one of the positive surprises of the young season so far.

After six match days, they have four wins and two draws to their name. In the previous week, the team of coach Ange Postecoglou, who has played a lion’s share in the remarkable development, fought their way to a respectable 2-2 draw at reigning runners-up Arsenal. Twice Spurs came back from behind, both times Hyeung Min Son scoring on an assist from summer signing James Maddison.

Son now has five goals in his last three league appearances. However, all five of those goals were scored away from home. At home, on the other hand, the South Korean has not scored in four Premier League games. Should that change at the weekend, odds of 2.40 on a Son goal between Tottenham and Liverpool are available at Oddset.

Will Tottenham score at least twice again?

Generally, the north Londoners’ attack has been the showpiece so far. Postecoglou’s side have scored at least twice in each of their six Premier League matches. In total, they have scored 15 goals, an average of 2.5 per match. Incidentally, in the long history of the PL, only Craig Shakespeare of Leicester City (2017) was responsible for seven league games with two or more goals at the start of his tenure.

In addition, the Australian could also become only the second Tottenham coach after Antonio Conte to start a league season with seven unbeaten games. For this to happen, however, the LFC phobia must be brought under control, as only one meagre victory from the past 21 (!) Premier League duels impressively proves the designation “fearful opponent” in this case.

Predicted line-up of Tottenham:

Tottenham (Expected line-up) 4-2-3-1

Liverpool – Statistics & current form

Jürgen Klopp can also be very satisfied with his team’s performance so far this season. Thanks to a strong haul of 16 points from their first six games, the Reds are still close on the heels of defending champions and unbeaten Manchester City in second place.

After the 1-1 draw with Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge on matchday one, LFC have won all of their last five Premier League matches. Including the Europa League opener at LASK and last Wednesday’s EFL Cup third-round win over Leicester, the statistics now show seven successes in a row.

The self-confidence is immense and the mood within the club could hardly be better, especially as the German coach, in contrast to last year, can once again draw on a certain breadth in the squad. An improved B eleven, for example, provided the aforementioned 3:1 home victory against the Championship leaders from Leicester during the week. A number of key players were spared in the process.

Will Salah and Co. turn out the lights again?

Even the starting line-up, which included a number of youngsters, was unable to prevent Liverpool from falling 1-0 behind for the second time this season. The Scousers conceded the first goal of the game for the fourth time in a row, but in all four cases they left the pitch as winners. The score was always 3:1 after 90 minutes.

If you don’t want to take that risk, you can probably bet on at least three goals in the match. The Klopp team has scored three goals of its own in six of its eight competitive matches. At the same time, however, only one clean sheet has been scored so far this season, which means that the combined bet on Tottenham and Liverpool scoring more than 2.5 goals each also offers exciting odds, even though they do not currently exceed 1.60.

Finally, Liverpool’s superstar Mohamed Salah must be discussed. In his last twelve Premier League games, the Egyptian has always been involved in at least one goal. The right-winger has scored six goals and provided nine assists in this period. In the current season, he also has four goals and three assists to his name. Salah, who flirted with a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer, is expected to feature on Saturday

Predicted Liverpool line-up:

FC Liverpool (Expected line-up) 4-3-3

Tottenham – Liverpool Direct Comparison / H2H Balance

This is the 161st time that these two long-standing Premier League clubs have faced each other in the English top flight. Liverpool have 77 victories to their name so far. Tottenham have 42 victories, while 41 encounters have ended in draws.

Far more exciting, however, are other statistical anomalies. We have mentioned several times that Spurs have managed only one win in their last 21 attempts against LFC (six draws, 14 defeats). To make matters worse, the Reds have scored in 15 consecutive league games against THFC. Last season, Klopp’s team took maximum points from the first and second legs. They won 4-3 at home and 2-1 away in London.

Tottenham – Liverpool Tip

Liverpool Football Club have now gone 17 games without losing in the Premier League this season. To extend that streak, they will need a focused performance in London on matchday seven on Saturday night. In the top match, Tottenham are considered underdogs against Liverpool according to the betting odds, but Spurs, like the Reds, are still unbeaten at league level so far this season.

For this reason, among others, we are not a fan of placing a bet on the three-way market. The head-to-head tends to point the pointer in the visitors’ direction. However, the fact that Tottenham are playing their second match in eight days, while Klopp’s team are being challenged for the fourth time in ten days, ensures that the odds are neutralised in terms of the pressures.

Our preferred approach, therefore, is to tip Tottenham and Liverpool to score at least four goals in the course of the game. Both teams have their clear strengths on the offensive. The Lily Whites have scored at least twice in all six league games, while LFC have even scored three or more goals in six of the eight compulsory games they have played. We therefore expect a lively and open game and recommend the Over 3.5 at top odds of 2.00.
